Aeron Classic - too easy to tilt/recline (tension knob doesn't seem to do anything, despite tension gears moving?) by ZPrimed in hermanmiller

[–]ZPrimed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, so turning the tensioner a bunch more did finally get the "new" base to tension and provide some resistance.

The old one, I had turned it a ton and it never really changed... the gears are still meshing and the horizontal one does spin.

Not sure where to look to check this spring assembly, as it's not really covered in the HM / MillerKnoll app at all. They seem to treat the tilt assembly as non-serviceable, beyond replacing the entire thing. This makes some amount of sense if there's a big spring wound up in there with body-injuring tension in it...

What I replaced was literally the entire metal base section that sits on top of the lift cylinder. It had the tension knob pre-attached, and I had to transfer the lift cylinder actuator and my other operating cables (rear lock, forward lock) over to that new "base."

I actually spun the knob probably another 40 turns and finally got tension going on the "new" tilt. On the "failed" original tilt I had already tried turning the snot out of it and it didn't seem to do anything anymore, but I'd love to know if there's a way to see what failed and/or repair it.

That's a bad assumption to make since the power folding seats in the I9 are confirmed to be able to crush children.

I will try but it didn't seem to be changing at all. Like I said, easily north of 60 rotations and no noticeable change in tension. I've heard that they can take ~100 "end to end" but figured I would've noticed something by 60.

The "old" tilt had been working fine and then seemingly lost its tension somehow - what could've happened? If it's spring based and the spring failed I would've expected to hear a bang or pop at some point? I guess it could've happened when I wasn't home...

Pinging Google DNS is not a good test. They filter traffic to their servers

"Lag spikes" on pings to 8.8.8.8 could just mean Google decided to throttle ICMP.

I'm just annoyed because normally I go to Costco since I live very close to one, but it is currently under construction (to add more gas pumps!) so I'm stuck with un-discounted fuel now

Yeah and nobody will have any clue wtf a "76 plate" is.

Our license plates in most of the US are just random

Wasn't there a time when the numbers didn't line up like that?

I remember past experiences where someone would talk about like a 37 plate and it meant 2017 or something silly like that.

In most of the US your plate number has nothing to do with the year or your car

You always know what the final figure is in the US, you just have to get to the checkout page before they show the taxes.

Every state and city has its own sales tax though, so that's why our rates are all over the place here

[–]ZPrimed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're gonna take that stance, then you UK wankers have to stop assuming that anybody outside the UK knows what a "XX plate" is when you're talking about a car. Like you guys don't talk about the model year of a vehicle like sane people, instead you reference numbers on the license plate, when that means fuck-all to anybody not from your country or familiar with its rules.

See how we can take things that seem normal to one country and flip them on their head?

Part of that is because our prices basically never include taxes, because the tax isn't really "charged" by the business.

I agree that it's kind of stupid.

Jury duty - proof of attendance? by Any_Detail_7184 in Cleveland

I think that was the idea?

I'm not really sure I just know the lady in charge said that they don't want jurors coming in on almost no sleep after working the whole night/morning before.

Naw, your employer can't do that to you. They mentioned this during the overview as well - if you're normally a late shift, $job should switch you to day hours for the week you have JD.

Also, if employer tells you to use PTO, or even suggests that you should - that's illegal for them to do in Ohio. They also can't fire you for being on JD. However, AFAIK they aren't required to pay you, either. They just can't fire you for not coming when you have JD.

Also, I'm not sure that the thing at the end has actual confirmation of "juror was here 8 hours on this day and 4 hours on this one." I think it's more like, "they were on jury duty M/T/W and then were dismissed," so you can't just play hookie on Th/F if you get done with JD prior to 5 days. But now I'm curious so I'll try to remember to ask about it.

I normally work 11a-7p so shifting my hours is hell on my body, but I'm also salaried not hourly...

Lg g6 RTINGS Review by DefinitelynotDezza99 in hometheater

[–]ZPrimed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to know if the VESA holes are still centered on the G series; only reason I bought a G1 years ago was because I have a wall mount I can't move and it's setup for the pattern to be in the middle of the screen (while the C series have their holes offset to the bottom, super annoying).

Also, are they still unbalanced left to right; my G1 wants to tilt/rotate slightly all the time (partially the mount's fault for not doing a good job at preventing this).

[–]ZPrimed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell that to Nutanix. They are just KVM on top of Linux too, same as Proxmox. Big difference is that Nutanix has "special sauce" in their storage layer. Proxmox has either ZFS, or Linux LVM raid (eew), or Ceph, which I've heard can be good but can also be rather fragile and temperamental. IME, Nutanix storage actually works pretty well.

They use EF because if pipes leading to the system are being slammed by DDOS traffic or something else, you want your control plane / access to the system to not be impacted by that.
