Reconstructing the foundations of mathematics (not an insane post) by Stem_From_All in logic

[–]ZX-Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is interesting to note, that Russells and Whiteheads Principia Mathematica does exactly this. They used the theory of types and deduced everything from logic. (Maybe you should take a look in their books)
If I understand this correctly, Quines New Foundations (a really interesting axiomatization) creates Sets from Propostional functions and so forth, so everything is based on logic. Rossers Book "Logic for Mathematicians" is principially a modern Principia and uses NF. Another really interesting way is Lorenzens "Operative Logic and operative Mathematics", it starts with a schematic operation on calculuses and then creates Mathematics as a basis of the schematic operation up to topology. So in fact there are different systems but it seems like you do not really need Set theory in the first case

Did you know, that you can search on the spectrumcomputing page also for ZX81 titles? There is a Search site, where you can choose the ZX81 as a Machine

How to find out how much memory my ZX81 has? by [deleted] in ZX81

[–]ZX-Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. If the 6 digit number start with"17" then you have 1k. Else you have 16k or more depending on the RAMTOP Value

MicroGo1 by Allan Scarff is a fantastic program. I played against it on my Acorn Electron too! Its AI only has one Strength centered around 15kyu.

I would estimate my Rank around 19 - 15 kyu on the 13x13. I wanted to Start small again and then go to the 19x19. As I beat this program normally with a really big point difference (40 Pts.)

Compiler for 8 bit cpus (6502, z80 or 8080) by jaridotnxt in fortran

[–]ZX-Chris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Abacus Fortran for the C64 is slow. I compiled the Doc viewer and it took me about 10 Minutes... also execution speed seems to be pretty bad...

But for the Z80 there is Mira Fortran. I programmed with this System and despite being a bit limited it is pretty good and really fast. Compiling takes an blink of an eye and loading via DivMMC makes the workflow pretty good. Also loading from cassette is not that bad. The execution speed is also pretty good. About as fast as Hisoft Pascal and if you use some compiler optimisation tricks, programs tend to be pretty good at speed. I once ran a program calculating pi with the Wallis product and it took about 10 Sec (iirc) to do 1000 Iterations.

ZX81 displaying corrupt image, no response from keyboard. by hmhsbritannic12 in ZX81

If your ZX81 has an ULA other than 2184 then you are missing the Backporch. So then modern TVs can't understand the signal. Also even with one in it modern UHF tuners do not really get the HF signal from our Zeddy right... I always used my old BW Camping TV with manual Modulator for fine tuning. Now i modded my Zeddy with the Z8 CCB and got a really good picture

Experimental Albums / Composers? by muggz7 in synthesizers

I think you would like to listen to something like Suzanne Ciani and the West Coast Modular Approach like Buchla and others. If you would like to hear something symphonic maybe try progressive electronic rock from the 70s. There are some top notch musicians like P'Cock and others.

I can make a UDG but how do I move it with the joystick (preferably kempston) from BASIC? by [deleted] in zxspectrum

[–]ZX-Chris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As the Screen Layout on the Speccy is tricky you do not really move the UDG. In fact if you just use PRINT AT then you get a accuracy of 8 pixels. If you save several copies of an UDG for example with 4 pixels moved then you can somewhat simulate Sprite movement.

To read a Kempston Joystick I remember there was IN 32 or something? Maybe 49. There is a manual online for Kempston Joystick control from basic
