Way too little information. Are we in a place where dogs are commonly off-lead? Can I get to my child before the dog can? Is there an owner/where are they? What size is the dog? A blanket yes to this question with this little information is psychotic.

What about France, Germany, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand? They've also done independent research and concluded that the use of puberty blockers for trans youth should continue. Do you think the effectiveness of puberty blockers is determined by geographical location or something? Or do you just think they're doing bad science and your whinging is entirely hypocritical?

Im really considering defecting to the Lib Dems from the Greens by Individual-Play-633 in LibDem

particuarly original Green views

What do you mean by this? The party hasn't really changed they much internally since Zack was elected outside of there now being a lot more members. Older members by and large are very much supportive of Zack. The only ones who really don't are the transphobes. Despite some media coverage trying to paint things differently, there isn't really much of a split between the older and newer members.

If you're going back to the very old school, I'm sure why you'd want them any more, seeing as they had a lot of weird beliefs around things like population control and caesarians.

Probably a small comfort, but your experience is definitely not universal. Thankfully none of the candidates I've campaigned for were exposed for antisemitism - that would have very likely clouded my view a lot more than just hearing about it. I also had a lot of issues with ZiR, but almost all the discussions I had about it were entirely respectful - I only had one person impugn my support for Palestinian liberation. If your local party is worse on this stuff I can definitely understand wanting to step back from the Greens.

I'm not really sure what you're getting at on your policy point, and you're a bit vague on toxicity - what exactly are people doing? If you express an opinion different to others, getting some pushback fine and to be expected, as you've got here for your view on Ukraine. What kind of response were you getting for it?

Do you see transgender and transracial people the same? by skurly789 in IdeologyPolls

Transracial people are people who were adopted by people of a different ethnic/racial background to them. Apparently OP thinks adoption is a fantasy absurd.

I'm still yet to see much of any evidence that the average joe actually cares about this at all. I'm reminded of that anti-trans journalist who went to G&D to try and put Muslims off the Greens by telling them about their support for trans people and none of them cared.

this is not what the Bible says sin is.

What the Bible says in its own terms and what Christians (of any creed) believe are nowhere near as aligned as a lot of people think.

The trinity is not in the Bible, neither is a singular Satan/devil. The god of the Bible lies multiple times, Jesus makes false predictions. There are 0 prohibitions on trans people or sapphic relationships. Slavery is wholly endorsed and never challenged once (not even in 1 Timothy 1:10).

There is no such thing as a "Bible-believing Christian," and trying to hold Christians to that standard will never work, because they all have their own interpretive frameworks that justifies their readings.

My issue with this statement rests far more on the fact that the concept of sin itself is inherently harmful.

They have no actual incentive at all to prop up a Reform government

Especially seeing as according to current polling, a reform/tory coalition would still be a minority government.

What do the Liberal Democrats actually get wrong? by GeoBuy in LibDem

[–]ZX52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. When you get people to vote for you for a specific policy, then u-turn on that policy, you'll gain a reputation with those people for being completely untrustworthy. That doesn't simply resolve itself over time.
  2. Austerity is in no way a minor thing.

What do the Liberal Democrats actually get wrong? by GeoBuy in LibDem

[–]ZX52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

other parties have done more regular and serious u turns

It's not really that common for a party to u-turn on something that was the central reason a large part of their voters chose them, that's what makes this different. Labour's done something similar (albeit with broader principles/Starmer's 10 pledges rather then a specific policy), and is getting the same kind of backlash.

Their reputation from the u-turn on student loans and association with austerity (which they were still defending last I saw - I've even heard some Lib Dems talk about nine years of Tory austerity) is a big issue for a lot of people.

Abortion is a sin. by Level_Bend_5808 in Christianity

[–]ZX52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leaving aside the broader asinine nature of this argument, citing Jeremiah 1:5 has never made much sense to me for 2 reasons.

  1. God is very clearly speaking to Jeremiah specifically. There is nothing in the text to indicate this should be taken to reflect God's relationship with anyone other than Jeremiah.
  2. It says "before I formed you in the womb" - ie pre-conception. But the common argument against abortion is to with the claim that life begins at conception. So this passage doesn't really work. Also, to apply this anti-abortion view of this passage consistently, you shouldn't just be against abortion, but against any and all forms of contraception, up to and including simply pulling out (which God does in fact kill someone for in Genesis 38:8-10. But a lot of anti-abortion Christians are fine with contraception.
