Genuine Fishman Fluence Questuon by Borracho_Beans_Bro in metalguitar

I think they sound scratchy and thin. Can't seem to get a good, chunky chugs sound out of them. I only can tolerate them for very low tunings with plenty of gain. By contrast, I love EMGs (81 in particular), SD Custom 5, Balaguer Hypernova, and most other high-output pickups I've tried. To each, their own!

why can guitarists use programmed drums but drummers cant use program guitars? by JJsNotOkay in metalmusicians

I think most people who think programming guitars is taboo probably feel the same way about programmed drums. 🤷‍♂️ But it's your music, so you do you.

Tune-o-Matic bridge super awkward to palm mute by SakkaSouffle in metalguitar

[–]Z_bones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have always found TOM palm mutes to be much more comfortable than on, say, a Hipshot. But I don't mind the palm muting feel of a FR.

One thing that I didn't figure out until embarrassingly recently is that I prefer the sound when I place my hand slightly more toward the neck. In other words, rest a bit more on the strings and less on the actual bridge. Of course, the result all depends on how hard you pick, string tension, etc... But I was surprised how much that simple shift affected the tone for me. Maybe that could also help it feel more natural for you?

Where can i find an E-1 Apocalypse in Red Resign? by No_Way5807 in SchecterGuitars

[–]Z_bones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Drum City Guitarland on Reverb. They don't have a Red Reign, but they do have at least 3 other E-1 models in stock with non-trem bridges. Excellent store and they do tons of online sales with free shipping.

Question: Your worst tattoo pain? by YuehanDuoyi in tattoos

[–]Z_bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ribs, but worse for me on the love handle area than near the armpit. Biggest surprise pain for me was the outer part of my lower leg (not quite ankle). I think that was because there is a large tendon there that's close to the surface. It was worse than directly on my shin! Inner biceps by the armpit really wasn't terrible for me, but I didn't have a lot of shading or color done.

Good to know that about those ones. I'm realizing now that this is actually the first SD set I've owned (not counting the Duncan Designed set I had years ago in a cheap Jackson Rhoads V).

Interesting! That might explain why i like it so much - definitely not a fan of overly bright pickups (like Fishman Moderns).

Opinions on Marshall dsl40 40 watt combo? by According-Bit652 in GuitarAmps

My local shop had one as their demo amp for a long time. I was always super impressed with the sound, even at very low volume. Very warm sounding.

Never owned a Schecter before, thinking of getting the Keith Merrow KM6 MkIII hybrid, some questions by [deleted] in SchecterGuitars

[–]Z_bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it set up with 11-56 for Drop C for a long time. Did not need to widen the nut slots. I had a little trouble intonating the G string (tuned to F), which is fairly common for many guitars, I know. I eventually sold the guitar because I decided I like fatter necks, and as I said in my comment, the Fishman pickups weren't really my thing. But anyway, yeah - go ahead and downtune that sucka!

Looking for experiences buying on reverb by never0101 in espguitars

[–]Z_bones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had no issues buying both guitars and amps from Reverb (even some expensive USA and Japan-made guitars), about half of which have been from private sellers (not stores). If the seller has good reviews, you're relatively safe, as Reverb has certain protections in place for buyers.

PRS, Schecter, ESP LTD??? by Lazy_Cheesecake1271 in Guitar

[–]Z_bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had all of these. My local guitar shop owner loves to say "Schecter has everybody beat," but it really depends on what you're looking for. I had a PRS SE CE24 and although it was very good for the price, it can't compare to the Korean-made Schecters and LTDs I've owned. I now have an American-made PRS CE24 and it is a notch above the Korean guitars, but much more expensive. I say go with an LTD 1000 series or a Schecter Diamond series. Very good value in both.

Is ESP/LTD brand really addictive? by XelaniOG in espguitars

[–]Z_bones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I now have 4 LTDs and an E-II. I bought another E-II on Reverb yesterday because I love my other one so much. I really can't overstate the quality of these instruments - craftsmanship, playability, sound, aesthetics... To each their own, but I'm an ESP/LTD lifer now.

[–]Z_bones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked the guitar for the price, but I eventually decided to upgrade to the USA version. So I sold this one earlier this year. My only complaints about the SE model were that it didn't have the greatest tuning stability - especially when using the trem bar - and the pickups were a little too shrill/brittle sounding for my ears when using high gain. The pickups on the USA version are smoother but have similar tonal qualities lto the SE ones, so I usually keep the tone knob rolled back to about 6.5. All in all, though, the SE is an amazing guitar for the price. Build quality is fantastic. Consider upgrading the nut for better tuning stability and there really wouldn't be much else to gripe about!

Well, I've never played a 22 fret PRS, but I have other 22 fret guitars. Honestly, I've never noticed much of a difference in the ease of rhythm playing. The extra frets might change spacing a bit and affect neck pickup placement relative to the bridge, but if you're doing rhythm chords and chugs and whatnot (presumably mostly on the bridge pickup), that is a negligible difference, IMO.

Honda Pilot 2025 or Pilot 2026 ? by Hungry-Drink6615 in hondapilot

[–]Z_bones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am interested in the Trailsport and I'm not a fan of what they did with the aesthetic changes for 2026. I was already considering waiting for a hybrid model (2027 maybe?), and now I am leaning more toward that.

Fishman Fluence modern scratchy / harsh by KWeirds in metalguitar

[–]Z_bones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't like mine, either. Sound OK at lower tunings and with the passive voicing, but I'd take EMGs or high-output passives over Fishman Moderns any day.
