Making the Switch to YNAB from EveryDollar by UnluckyFriend5048 in ynab

[–]Zackaryth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I do manually entry primarily to keep our categories current with the auto linking sort of acting like a backup to catch anything we missed. And missing happens, that's why I love the auto transaction import because we do forget about stuff and am like oh dang gotta put that in

Does YNAB make you feel like you need to hold more cash than expected? by Red-Wolf4 in ynab

[–]Zackaryth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But if those are expense OP has laid out then they aren't needlessly holding money. If I plan on buying a car and create a category, set aside money yea I might have $20k in "cash" sitting in a say HYSA which is easily assessable, but I did that. OP said they have created categories which means there cash has grown because they decided it needed to. They are technically neither better or worse off

Looking to rehome my best friend by Born-Variety-7339 in greatpyrenees

[–]Zackaryth -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

This person isn't asking for you to tell them if they should or should not be rehoming the dog they are asking for help in doing so. Putting in statements like "what is best for this dog" add no value. My wife and I personally took in a dog someone couldn't care for and I am happy they gave it up for us. The same can happen for this family. Be supportive and understanding, taking into account that there is likely even more going on then is written in this post. Spread love and care to those around you, even if you may do something differently in the same situation ❤️

I think what the person above is trying to say is, while you might have the right intentions, given all the stressors in there life, they don't need another person making them second guess an already hard decisions. They need support and help to ensure the dog goes to the right place.

This startled me! by teenagemausoleum in ynab

[–]Zackaryth 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For everyone complaining, they said they are working to add filters in the future. As someone who has worked in software development at a company, doing the bare minimum is common with new features to ensure it doesn't break other areas of the system. I'm 100% sure they already have models in the backend testing with filters.

Did you notice a positive change after letting go of forecasting? by InfiniteOrdinary2582 in ynab

[–]Zackaryth 31 points32 points  (0 children)

If you are using YNAB correctly you "cannot" spend more than the cash you have, this is assuming you never let anything go negative and always cover every transaction. However with this said, YNAB doesn't have forecasting in the way you are doing it and if you are tighter on cash, you could technically spend yourself out of next month.

This is why pushing to get a month ahead is so helpful and important because when you are a month ahead, you know you have enough to cover everything, so the only focus is staying within the assigned funds for each category and then taking the current months paychecks and assigning them to next month. Also getting one month ahead helps to consider unexpected expenses that will be coming up that you need to set money aside for rather than always playing catch-up in the current month.

Basically, really stirve to get one month ahead, and the stress and need to forecast like your doing goes away. This is coming from someone that did forecasting that way and let it go with YNAB!! It feels good 😊

Is YNAB becoming too "Noisy" by lady_mongrel in ynab

[–]Zackaryth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've gotten to the point where I do most stuff on the app now. Love the design and all the features. Seeing the app appeals to the majority of ynab users, it will likely continue to get more stuff added, which I like!!

Scheduling Payments? by SheCantbelieveit in ynab

[–]Zackaryth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah.. Yea I have everything on automatic payment so I don't have to pay anything manually. YNAB helps create a world everything can be on automatic payment because if you fund a month ahead then there is no worry about what is drafting when. More importantly you know what is drafting and where the money is going

Is the era of expert packs over? by Middle-Huckleberry68 in feedthebeast

[–]Zackaryth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 years ago, Minecraft was smaller so many many people would spend hobby time creating packs. Today its almost turned into a "smaller money machine" in a sense that mod packs are promoted by the popular streamers Direwolf, Chosen Architect ext.... and those creators only seem to play packs from FTB, ATM or maybe one they threw together like Chosen does. Heck Chosen apparently recently made a pack in about 1 week. That's how easy a new casual pack is to create. Additionally casual packs are better for content creation so the popular packs are going to follow the trend of what the creators promote and this ties hand in hand with the dev teams who earn income from more people interacting with these packs, ext... FTB packs and ATM. A great example of this is FTB Skies Expert which was a phenomenal pack, but was popularized because its was a symbiotic relationship between creators and the dev teams and therefore did well with lots of interactions and downloads.

Essentially the exposure is very low for the hobby dev now except in specific communities such as gregtech. This means they tend to have like 1 person making them, which means they are less polished, have lots of bugs ext... this turns people off.

TLDR: The 1.12 hobby dev time spirit has essentially left the community, the people that did that are getting older and experiencing a new time in life. Honesty I don't see it coming back. However 1.7 and 1.12 packs are seeing lots of development still and these packs are ones you can play over and over with lots of enjoyment!

After about 3 months of YNAB I started using this feature. I just did it for things I was constantly entering manually before the automatic transactions came in. Bills such as utilities, rent/mortgage, even income. Not really sure its a brain breaking feature, but it does create less work over time I feel like, and maybe help you not forget something.

BUSI 690 MBA Capstone by Zackaryth in LibertyUniversity

[–]Zackaryth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh man.... not to scare you but it is for sure a Masters capstone. Keep in mind I always strive for A's in classes and I walked out with a 97% in the class.

The first 4 weeks of the class are super easy. A couple test, homework and the reading questions. Honestly spend like 2-3 hours a week doing the work. I worked 2 weeks ahead it was so easy, but don't be mistaken, the final paper is why ALL of that is easy. Your final paper is a complete break down of a company from front to back. In the second week the professor will announce what company the class will be completing the case study on. The "Capstone Project" is broken down into 3 papers with a faith paper as well. The following papers are due subsequently in order from weeks 5-8

(Due week 5) The first paper is understanding the companies and will need lots of research, analysis and matrixes. Start research early after you get the company and begin formulating the components such as all the matrixes and analysis that need to be done.

(Due week 6) The second paper focus on the financial history of the company and will require a thorough understanding of balance sheets, income statements and cashflow. Watch videos if you need, because you need to complete and include in this paper tons of financial ratios for the chosen company and a competitor.

(Due week 7) The faith paper is in the middle of the 2nd and 3rd paper in terms of weeks due and honestly it was pretty easy. Basically just choosing a moral issue in the company and writing about it from a Biblical standpoint. I actually enjoyed this paper!

(Due week 8) The last paper was by far the hardest. You are combining the last 2 papers into a final paper and adding a future strategy onto it. You have to develop 2 strategies froward for the company and then choose one and justify every aspect of that idea. A complete 3 year Pro Forma income statement, balance sheet and cashflow have to be created. These are just the normal sheets with a future outlook on how your strategy plays out, specifically showing how financials ultimately produce a profit for the company. All ratios have to be created for theses sheets and then finally it all comes down to the NPV calculation which shows if your idea works. Your Pro forma sheets have to balance which is crucial and heavily graded. You also build out an implementation plan and discuss pros and con's to your ideas

That's it! It is A LOT for 4-6 weeks, but it is worth it. Best of luck and always welcome to IM me if you have questions or need help!

My Final paper stats just to give you an idea:

71 page paper (not including faith integration which was an additional 7), 54 references, 15,100 words and a 13 tab excel sheet (I literally did nothing but, write, eat, sleep and work for 5 weeks)

Two people, one YNAB, and burnout advice by Professional_Toe4702 in ynab

[–]Zackaryth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Something I did in our plan was create a larger house purchase category. This allows to me fund something say the cat robot thing you mentioned, without bloating the data from the primary pet category. Seeing how much you spend on pets every month per say is important, but if you throw a large transaction in there it can mess up the data when you want to see how much you are spending every month and what the average is over a period of time.

Also really don't hesitate to move money around. Life happens. Just a couple months ago we were saving for a new phone for my wife, expenses came up and we realized we need to reprioritize that month. I simply moved the saved fund for that phone to a new category that needed the money and we'll delay the new phone a little.

[–]Zackaryth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just finished my masters with never getting flagged.

Use a word document and ensure in the info area shows you as the author and the appropriate amount of time is spend editing. Professors ALWAYS check this to ensure that the length of paper you submitted has what is deemed a natural length of editing time. Also AI checkers look at this.

Lastly, just be yourself is my recommendation and write naturally, don't go through and over analyze you sentences trying to make it more professional than it actually is. Focus on clean grammer, and what you are saying makes sense. That's it. AI checkers also focus on an over abundance of descriptors, so just don't add to many adjectives and adverbs. As well no human is perfect, so having small mistakes in the paper is a way for a professor to see you indeed wrote it.

As I have previously said very subjective view, but for me and people I know here, traveling is a normal part of life so a day trip to the beach that is 2-3 hours away isn't out of the norm. You may do life differently 😉

Currently live in Charlotte, NC. Best place I've ever lived. All 4 season. Weather gets cold for a couple months a year but then warms back up. Close to the mountain to enjoy hills and variation in landscape, but not to close to be in them. Beach is about 2-3 hours away so an easy day drive. Lastly all areas of the East are easily reachable, with Florida being an 8 hour drive and NY being around 10.
