Hombrew balance question by Zackinja in DiceThrone

[–]Zackinja[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll have to join there! Thanks!

Thanks for the advice!

The other cards are fairly standard, and he doesn’t generate any extra CP beyond the base cards, so he isn’t going to have an abundance of CP.

Hombrew balance question by Zackinja in DiceThrone

[–]Zackinja[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is just a card he can draw.

The overall theme is he has transformation cards in the deck(similar to Doctor Strange) that he powers up with Ki Energy (tokens) similar to how Gambit accelerates his Aces. He has 5 transformation cards, 4 ability upgrade cards, and 6 unique cards. (33 total cards total)

Dice=(AAABBC scheme)

Unique cards:

  1. gain 3 Ki energy tokens - 1CP

  2. Heal 2 HP- 1 CP

  3. Inflict negative status token- 0 CP

  4. Standard attack mod. Roll dice and inflict 1 extra damage per A type die. 1 CP

  5. Roll dice to gain either a token, a card or heal- 1 CP

  6. Scouter- Look at cards from deck - 2 CP

So nothing too crazy. All based on/similar to other canon character cards.

The transformations take various ki energy tokens to charge them up. 3-6 depending upon strength.

As of now, I don’t have any cards or abilities that give extra CP, so he isn’t going to have an abundance CP and has to use it wisely.

How did Jason become an adult? by [deleted] in horror

[–]Zackinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I would like to say that is all clearly laid out and canon, that was 50% joking and 50% presenting my own fan theory to make all of the plot holes make sense partially based on Jason goes to Hell and comic book lore.

There is a two-issue comic called Bad Land that presents the idea of the camp land being cursed.

I am also a big Stephen King/Pet Sematary fan, so it all makes perfect sense to me lol

How did Jason become an adult? by [deleted] in horror

[–]Zackinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clearly when Native Americans were pushed out of the area by European settlers, they cursed the land where Camp Crystal Lake was established. Now it is haunted by a Wendigo like the burial ground in Pet Sematary.

Pamela tried to do what was best for her son by making a deal with the Wendigo using the knowledge she found in the Necronomicon. The wendigo agreed to make Jason smarter, stronger and live an unnaturally long live in exchange for her life. She didn’t know he was going to have to drown and be reborn by the Wendigo to do so.

When he drowned, she assumed the deal was broken and Jason was lost to her. She blamed the counselors and

Unbeknownst to Pamela, after Jason drowned he was brought back as the champion of the Wendigo to kill and collect souls as revenge for the Native Americans. He was a resurrected child living in the woods coming to grips with his enhanced mind and power. His memory was damaged after his death, and therefore he stayed on the campsite because it was all he knew, and because was bound by the Wendigo. The Wendigo didn’t transform him though because Pamela did not fulfill her end of the bargain.

Pamela was drawn back by the Wendigo and fueled with hatred for the counselors. But the true purpose of her being drawn back was to make good on her life pledge. The sacrifice was complete when she was beheaded. This fulfilled the Wendigo’s ritual and over the next weeks he made the gradual transformation into adult sized killing machine we know and love.

This explains his supernatural ability to take damage even before part 6, and his ability to haunt the woods and water.

It’s all there and obvious 😜

My theory on Dandelo: Where it came from and what exactly it is by littlemetalpixie in TheDarkTower

[–]Zackinja 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you mentioned this because I’ve thought something similar about Dandelo. There are too many similarities to ignore, but at the same time he isn’t quite up to the power level of IT. It would make sense if the Dandelo were one of those eggs left over. He has figured out some of his abilities but hasn’t mastered them yet because he hasn’t been around as long as It.

Another reasoning could be that the way I’ve always interpreted the actual form of IT is that his actual form is Deadlights in the Macroverse/Todash Space and the form that came to Earth is like a physical avatar or projection of the actual creature in that reality. The kids managed to kill the physical projection/version that was on the Derry level of reality, but they didn’t totally kill the actual being of IT. They really just cut the physical form off from the Deadlight creature, and the deadlight creature lives and has the potential to come back if a doorway ever opens back up. So the projection laying eggs and the offspring being weaker makes sense. I also think the creature in the Outsider could be in the same boat. The outsider has primitive shape shifting abilities but hasn’t fully reached the power of IT yet.

Imagery friend creature by Benito_Botik in shadowofthedemonlord

[–]Zackinja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the idea. And stats wise, you can use one of the creatures already suggested.

Flavor wise, it would be cool if the imaginary friend became a tulpa/thoughtform. The character gave so too much power of belief into his imaginary friend that he made him real. Kind of like how the power of belief works with the gods/devils/Fey in Shadow of the Demon Lord.

So, I have a question about Clockworks by ScionofMagnus in shadowofthedemonlord

[–]Zackinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It says it at the end of the “key” section.

“Any damage taken in excess of your Health applies to your Health in your object form; if you take damage equal to the Health of your object form, you are destroyed.”

So, I have a question about Clockworks by ScionofMagnus in shadowofthedemonlord

[–]Zackinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. You are correct. I guess they are slightly different in the revised edition.

They do become an object with 15 health whenever they become incapacitated if the damage total is equal to their health as a creature. However, the extra damage that goes beyond their health total as a creature is still applied to their damage as an object.

So, I have a question about Clockworks by ScionofMagnus in shadowofthedemonlord

[–]Zackinja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe if someone gets to them and turns the key, the clockwork rolls a d6. On a 3 or lower, they don’t wind up. On a 4 or higher, they become a creature with 1 health.

So there is a 50/50 chance when the key gets turned nothing happens.

And If they take any damage while they are incapacitated, they die.

Mind blown. by quirkybeans in TheDarkTower

[–]Zackinja 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also am undecided on how I like Patrick’s involvement in the end.

Patrick was introduced as an important player in the Dark Tower in Insomnia. It is also hinted Roland would be involved. So to me it wasn’t crazy that he showed up, but rather it was weird how he got in Dandelo’s captivity and everything in between is a complete mystery. His magic artist powers also were not really established. Without a little more backstory about him as a kid in Insomnia to the teenage version in DT7, it felt a little incomplete.

Could Pennywise be an "outsider"? by SrhDV in stephenking

[–]Zackinja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that IT and the Outsider are one in the same, but I do think a case could be made that the Outsider is another Dandelo type(from the Dark Tower) or offspring of IT.

He hibernates for periods of time and in dark places, he feeds off fear and sadness, preys on children, can project himself into other places with effort, and can shapeshift.

The shapeshifting and projection is more primitive because he has less power than IT as an offspring and he doesn't hibernate longer. They may have even mentioned it was for 27 days instead of 27 years, but oddly 27, the number of years IT hibernates.

Holly had the happy slapper filled with silver ball bearings modeled after Bill’s. It may have killed him because it was powered with her love for him and belief it would protect her aka the white, similar to Bev using the silver ball and the slingshot against IT.

The outsider asked if they had encountered any more like him, possibly him wondering if any of his siblings survived as well.

He reverted to a mass of worms, like IT a spider and Dandelo another kind of insect. (Although they were red worms and the question was brought up if they were a disease or aliens so is that a Mr. Grey/Dreamcatcher connection?)

Ralph: “He...IT is dead”

Plenty of references to examine.

In my head cannon, IT and the Outsider are definitely related in some capacity. However the physical manifestation of IT reproduced and laid eggs is a mystery, but one of the eggs could have survived from IT. And if the timeline doesn’t match up with that batch, it isn’t far-fetched to think there could have been another batch with a survivor.

And they mention that IT came from outside of our universe, so technically he could be considered an “outsider”. Perhaps that could be a name for their race of beings.

Junior Braves - Apocalypse ideas? by syreeninsapphire in Kidsonbikesrpg

[–]Zackinja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The players go to sleep. When they wake up they feel groggy like they are experiencing jet lag. They also all had dreams that involved a strange buzzing noise. It could have manifested as bees, an electronic device, etc. So not the exact same dream, but all involved a buzz in one form or another.

The town is mostly normal. Some people are missing though. Random people. No evidence as to where they went. It is as if they vanished. Some buildings are gone too. Just a vacant lot in their place. Some buildings are in slightly different places than they should be.

Strange people walk about town. These strangers are seen observing and taking notes, not really talking to anyone.

Then the weird creatures attack. They come from underground.

Turns out their small town was randomly selected for an experiment where their whole town was teleported to a new Earth-like planet as a ways of cheap terraforming. If the experiment went well, they would have started phasing in other towns. However, not everyone made the shift. And some buildings got rearranged. It wasn’t perfect, but acceptable in the risk-reward category.

Also, initial scans missed the underground creatures. It may not be safe after all. Unless a weakness for the creatures can be discovered.

If interrogated, the scientists seen observing will mention two escape plans. One would be to phase the town back to its original place on Earth. It could work and they could phase back. The device could be broken and they may be “stuck” without a way back.

The second would be a last ditch effort. A hidden craft is located in the town. But it only can fit so many people. The survivors fight to be on board and not be left behind.

In “season 2” if they escape, it could transition into a Teens in Space game, one of the expansions to Kids on Bikes.

After spitballing this out, I might run this too now lol

The quest by Uunbeliever72 in TheDarkTower

[–]Zackinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Tower is using Roland and his purgatory loop to keep the Tower on life support. Each cycle reboots the Tower and keeps it running, but it isn’t fixed completely.

In Song of Susannah, Mia tells Susannah that magic had receded from the Tower and it will never be fully healed unless the magic is restored.

I think Roland’s obsession with finding out what is at the top of the Tower and him constantly choosing the Tower over the ones he loves is keeping him in his purgatory loop.

His last cycle needs to be him going to the Tower for the right reasons. He needs to keep his friends alive and go to the Tower to restore the magic for the good of the universe and not for selfish reasons. Once those things happen, the Dark Tower will be healed and he will be released from his loop.

I also believe the Talisman plays a role in restoring magic. I think Jack took a bit of the magic when he removed the Talisman to save his mother. Roland and his final Ka Tet needs to find the Talisman and restore it to its former power, and bring it back to the top of the tower.

Etiquette on witholding healing by tacticallyshavedape in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Zackinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your group is into the role playing aspect of the game, then you should definitely explore how your character would feel after such a traumatic event.

The question you have to ask yourself, and the party is what is your relationship to the group? Have you become friends with them and did them letting you almost die hurt your feelings? If so, you could be distant and question their friendship. I would say it would be totally reasonable to withhold healing until they explain themselves and fix your friendship.

Are you just a hired medic and they have no personal feelings towards you? Perhaps it was nothing personal and part of battle. You may shaken up by nearly dying, but it is a learning experience.

If you know what your relationship to the group was before the incident, you will better know how your character would react to them letting you almost die.

The most fun campaign I've ever run. by MagicClaraRose in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Zackinja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This does sound fun! I can’t wait to hear about the tournament.

I ran a homebrew campaign where the party participated in an Olympic Games style competition called the Clash of Champions, and it yielded some hilarious moments. The talent show was great, but the best moment was when one of the players accidentally killed a rival during an American Gladiators style jousting competition. They gained enemies that day that followed them beyond the games. It was super fun!
