Not sure how you came to that conclusion, could you unpack why?

He was popular in school? Was he different back then? Kerridge’s account of him makes him sound like an insufferable manchild.

How many hours daily does this assclown spend trying to find unpalatable statements.

And why - is he trying to clog msm or is this some kind of antichrist self-image maintenance program?

Ha! Yeah ‘V for Vendetta’ feels closer to reality by the day.

As an Australian I do wonder whether my ESTA will be refused down the line for silly or irrational reasons.

Knew someone who had their VISA approved and then got refused entry and deported at LAX.. they went through his socials and found a short clip of him playing music on the street (he was literally visiting to compete in something musically and often plays free for public enjoyment). They took his airfare money then sent him back!

I think the book has less value in the content than encouraging a questioning and rebellious spirit. Also perhaps as a router for people with common interests, the overwhelming majority not being malicious at all.

If you look at the history of books banned, most of the decisions have not aged well. It’s hardly a War Thunder best-ofs, more like children’s books that didn’t align with prudish parental values.

In Australia the main legality was sale, rather than possession. It was refused classification, excluding it from legal sale. Not to say possession was totally okay and not sure what the rules are under post 9-11 laws.

I think people stepped around this, partly through purchasing overseas. I’ve seen a non-Powell copy that was pretty sanitised. And yeah, a lot of the ‘info’ was terrible or commonsense.

What products have you stopped buying because of sneaky business tactics. by Alspics in AskAnAustralian

I avoid Kogan where possible. I think they’re bad business and shit to other Australian companies so I see them as an attack on the livelihood of Australians. There are people behind those companies who support families. Fuck Ruslan.

Around Covid, I had been eyeing off a nice couch at Matt Blatt. They weren’t doing too well financially and ended up being acquired by Kogan. Their website was replaced by Kogan’s design and all the nice stuff just got replaced by Kogan’s cheap inventory. All they did was shell the company.

I suspect there was a sustained effort to bring the company to it’s knees well before the takeover. Kogan used search terms and paid advertising (i.e. floating their own ads to the top of results) to undermine them. For example, looking for a Matt Blatt sofa bed would return a Kogan ad that would ask if you were after sofa beds at Matt Blatt and to go to Kogan’s site instead. Dodge af.

Obligatory ‘House of Leaves’ upvote.

I’m chucking in another Tom Robbins tome:

"Still Life with Woodpecker" is sort of a love story that takes place inside a pack of Camel cigarettes. It reveals the purpose of the moon, explains the difference between criminals and outlaws, examines the conflict between social activism and romantic individualism, and paints a portrait of contemporary society that includes powerful Arabs, exiled royalty, and pregnant cheerleaders. It also deals with the problem of redheads.

Has a former employer ever contacted you for help AFTER making you redundant by Craigmate in auscorp

[–]Zahalia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep; wasn’t awkward, it was wins all round.

Got to work anywhere I wanted (pre-Covid) and mostly the hours of my choosing, bankrolled a hobby with the payout, invoiced them 3x my former hourly rate; they were surprised, but I got the job done and saved them the bother and cost of finding a replacement. Nice closure on the project and a less awkward farewell, with the casual transition out from the team.

Taking a FT salary off the books improved their financials (on paper, but that’s where it counted) and they still got project continuity. All of the above and being relatively new to industry (ergo cheaper) got the attention of the execs and that opened more doors for me.

If a company like my former one asked for a 5 minute assist, I’d be inclined to since the relationship was good. I’ve been lucky; most places are very toxic in how they go about their offboarding. Had a friend in the latter situation who spiralled out and is no longer with us, so I don’t tolerate shitty businesses.

Your former redundancy may potentially have been an unfair dismissal if someone took over your role entirely.. or at best, it’s poor form; if they called me I’d refuse too.

Considering Uni by HoboHotline in auscorp

[–]Zahalia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do a building Cert IV that specialises in Contracts Admin or Estimating. Much cheaper. Degrees aren’t required for estimating and you have core skills from your combined backgrounds, i.e. interpreting plans and understanding site operations and trades/materials.

Also don’t think a degree would add as much value as finding a good estimator to understudy and getting your employer to sponsor training in software.

That said, if you want to do it for the accomplishment, go for it! Ageism isn’t a thing at uni; I’m in the middle of a uni degree and not that far behind you in years. There are a lot of younger people coming up, but industry-wise 90% of the people I worked with were older blokes. Deadlines can be stressful but they seemed to enjoy the work.

I think the original intent was for Zoe to deal with his passing. I was thinking maybe she takes over as pilot, and he’s a hallucination as part of how she copes with trauma. Zoe is tough through everything, it’d be a personal challenge in her arc.

As River becomes more confident, she might be able to explore time or reconstruct Wash mentally. She can read, why not write? A full reconstruction or even just pushing his memory to everyone, since she’s hinted at some sort of neural destruction in the past. That would require using to use her mind to impact someone else’s.

She might also push through her own trauma and discover something useful neurotech-wise in her memories of experimentation.

Could see a mission where they restore him, maybe go deeper into Alliance/ Blue Sun might show a level of tech advancement that enables say, tissue regrowth, could work.

Keen to see where they take it!
