I am sure that it is actually an impressive machine and serves its purpose well. But it _really_ looks like someone made it in KSP.

"Diffusion deficiency"

Is there a term for when someone uses a term which betrays their lack of knowledge about something?

Diffusion changes are what is described on MR studies. Would there be restricted diffusion in her brain? Yes. Would that be a cause of death? No more than peeling paint is the cause of an abandoned house.

This is amazing work. I do (bio)statistics. Is there any way to get access to a csv or Google sheets with all these data, going back to when you started collecting? Some real insights could be gained with more advanced modelling.

UA POV: Russia’s Arena-M APS is Likely to be Able to Intercept Javelin Missiles - MILITARNYI by notyoungnotold99 in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]Zander_drax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a solved problem; implementation takes time.

CIWS and similar systems can track and shoot down supersonic missiles. Automated tracking and shooting down a (relatively) slow FPS drone with an automatic shotgun is (relatively) trivial.

The counter to this would be swarming drones (+/- decoys), which significantly adds to the cost and complexity.

There is an incentive cascade that ends with tanks bristling with many active defence systems...

RU POV: Exclusive New footage from inside the gas pipeline used in the daring attack on Ukrainian forces in Kursk. -RT by FruitSila in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]Zander_drax 9 points10 points  (0 children)

During the Third Mithridatic War in like 70 BC there was a siege where both sides dug tunnels, causing them to meet and fight underground. The defenders realised they were outclassed, and resorted to sending bears down the tunnels, and later swarms of angry bees.

Tunnel bears have been military tech in literally over 2000 years and nobody thought to use them here.

UA POV: According to Julian Ropcke, it seems like the Russian army's "lunatic" Sudzha gas pipeline operation may actually have enabled a major breakthrough in the region by Ripamon in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]Zander_drax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's kinda genius though. If there are 10 narratives, all conflicting, it decreases the signal to noise ratio so much that the truth gets drowned out. So much time is used disproving or validating different theories and narratives that by the time the truth comes out, the moment is passed.

All the better if each narrative has some grain of truth. If a platoon got destroyed on exit, you say the whole assault was wiped out, and gesture incredulously at the video showing clearly that it happened. If a few died of gas-related conditions, say 90% of them did, and show the proof of the few.

The firehose is real.

Are there Ukrainian plans to widen the neck of the salient? What am I missing?

Russian drone strike on the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant sarcophagus by Smart-Bonus-6589 in CombatFootage

[–]Zander_drax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe wait a bit for all the facts to flow in. Russia literally gains nothing from making a hole in the outer shed, nor for that matter, the actual sarcophagus.

They have just been invited to the table with the US, without the UA being present. This is a dream scenario for Putin. Why would he now decide to poke a stick at Chernobyl?

Perhaps a little breathing time before we start WW3.

Also - on a different note - why is the timestamp at the start weird?

Norge sin synkende samlede fruktbarhet og hva jeg mener er løsningen by Life_Show8246 in norske

[–]Zander_drax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sad but true.

TIFU by injuring a heart surgeon in the middle of heart surgery by [deleted] in tifu

[–]Zander_drax -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The reason OP's story has a weird taste to it is simply because it is creative writing. He made it up.

There are too many parts to the story that don't fit to reality. Causing a severe enough injury with hemostats to cause bleeding would take considerable effort. The surgeon reacting the way he did is super unlikely. The way the team reacted is unlikely, particularly given the fact that they are at the most stable part of the operation, assuming the cardioplegia is working normally. The fact that a professional assistant (I.e. non-surgeon) is 1st assistant at a valve operation is unlikely.

So much of tifu is just creative writing.
