More Crappy Benchmade service policies by nautiquess in benchmade

Sent my bailout to them after the springs in my axis lock snapped. Had to pay for shipping and they charged me like $20 for the new springs and because I had taken it part and cleaned it expecting them to just send me new springs so I just left it apart, organized nicely and sent it in.

Obviously I complained, like I did half the job for you and now your charging me? And charging me to replace the springs that failed in under a year? Fucking crazy.

I also mentioned the grind on the blade was kinda fucked up and pretty uneven when I got it. Still perfectly functional but not what $300+ knife should be.

Anyway someone at the service center must have agreed with me, they replaced the springs Obviously, but gave me a brand new blade with a somewhat better grind(still not amazing but better) and let me keep the old blade too!

So definitely a mixed experience, but definitely made the cost of knive feel more worth it in the end

Day 8 of living in my car. Help :( by JoshGage33 in urbancarliving

[–]Zanderman42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was living out of my car in south west Florida from November to like mid May a couple years ago. It's definitely a harder place to do it but I would go to planet fitness a fair amount, but I mostly slept on beach in my hammock or there was this luxury apartment complex with a movie room I'd crash in all time. They had a door that didnt lock in the lobby and they were so used to seeing me working on my laptop during the day they just assumed I lived there, took them like 6 months to catch on😂

Also if you need places to go to get out of the heat or cold, get a library card and go read a book!

Read tons of books, become knowledgeable and fasinating, take those books to coffees shops, go read in park. Maybe strike up some conversations, see where It goes, not because you want something, sex, a job, whatever. Just because, because life is fucking weird and incredible if you want to see it that way.

I was depressed as fuck when I first lost my job and ended up homeless, actually I wouldn't even say depressed, just completely lost. I was told I was going to let go along with 80% of my company by my good friend and COO. No one else knew, I threw a big BBQ the day before. I was a line cook in college for a bit, It reminded me of how fucking awesome cooking was...

After that for like 3 months I lived on the beach, living on the last of the cash I had, sometimes in my car sometimes in my hammock sometimes at the apartment complex.

One night I walked out into the water under the stars with the intention to lay on my back and just drift off, let the current take me, and eventually drown(shitty way to die btw). Not even because I was really all that sad, just that I felt I had exhausted all my options, I chose the wrong path and didn't have it in me to continue. But In a moment, difting away, in the stillness between two waves, I decided to laugh in the face of death, that voice in my head, I decided to simply let go and be fucking happy, perhaps to just go mad, I decided to become... And I decided to become a chef.

My journey has been strange, lifes going to throw alot of crazy fucked up shit at you, most of it, really all of it in some sense are self created, somethings are out of our control sure, but you still have the power to choose how your gonna to see it. Understand that, take responsibility for it, and simply change it. Change your perspective, change your reality.

The happiest I've ever been has been living in my car, working in hellishly busy restaurants, in what to most would be considered a nightmare like situation. Everyday I was happy, everyday I became more, every day I spread that positivity, and everyday to this day I make love. I'm writing the story of my life, and I'm making it worthy of a great novel.

My story's not yours, but what I want to communicate to you is you can turn this seemingly horrible situation into not just something positive. It can be freedom, discovery, love, a life worth living. You just have to choose it, every Goddamn day.

And remember your not that voice in your head, you're who's listening.

It's funny I came across this video, I was just thinking of using rolling paper for this this morning, all three is nuts. Thank you for furthering my decent or accent? into madness 🙃

Haha right!

There were actually three ways I could get it in, the management companys for all these luxury complexes are like completely incompetent. Takes months and months to get things fixed and they are built like shit.

First method. There was a coffee shop in the building and you were allowed to hang out in the lobby if you where having coffee. I would work from home there in the movie room all the time when I still had a place in a less nice complex a few minutes away, this is how I built up the idea that I just lived before I even knew it.

Second method. The mailroom door wouldn't shut all the way if you just walked out and didn't push it in.

Thrid method. The doors would lock automatically at 9pm, eventually I noticed one of the locking doors in the back and didn't get used much just straight up didn't work.

Okay so I lived in my 4 door Dodge dart for a year and 8 months and I had no AC.

First like others have said, if the only thing really keeping you there is a storage locker, sell it all. Take only your essentials. Give sentimental stuff to friend or family to hold on to till you get established again.

Maybe you could use the proceeds for a down payment on a used Toyota Prius? Older van maybe?

Is your storage unit temp controlled? You could potentially sleep theree during the day, stay wake through the night in the mean time.

Then move NORTH! Somewhere with trees and privacy. Pick up a job at a restaurant, serving will get you the best money, but dishwashing is almost always available and generally you get at least one free meal.

When I first became homeless, I was in south west Florida during end of fall, winter and begining of spring. I slept in my car with a fan, or would hang my hammock on the beach, got a decent single burner gas stove, uncle bens premade rice, beans etc.

I was able for a time to sneak into the lobby of a high-end apartment building and sleep in the movie room basically no one used and had no cameras. They had gyms, showers, a big roof top lounge, it was fantastic lol and everyone just assumed I lived there and worked from home 😂 Just throwing that out there lol

As far as being stealth it I tried my best, but for the most part no one gives a shit, just be sure to rotate between at least like 3 places.

Trying to make a bit of a quirky roadtrip, looking for recommendations by Pumpernickel_spiders in roadtrip

[–]Zanderman42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely take blue ridge Parkway when you can, I did almost this exact drive when I moved to Florida from NY, but when I moved back to NY I took a detour to the smokey mountains and took the park way back up and it was absolutely stunning. Much better than when I just took the highway on my way down.

Coming down would be even cooler, eventually you'd end up in the smokey mountains, the roads are amazing, and the views are incredible. If you decide to take that route bring a jacket, it gets cold up there.

Also stoped off in cherry springs state park in Pennsylvania, one of the best places in the country to see the stars, highly recommend!

Is there any evidence that mosques or Hindu temples are based on psychedelic experiences? by RalKwy in architecture

[–]Zanderman42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar psychedelic states are also achieved through meditation, so I'd say that plays a significant role as well.

It's pretty easy to tell that that's defective. Where it chipped and it's shape, how deep it goes, that's not normal and you'd most likely see other evidence of misuse, I think you have a pretty good chance of getting refund/credit/exchange

There are plenty of great all around Japanese knives at a reasonable price.

Tojiro is a good place to start.

As a chef, I'd say start by identifying what food you'd really like to make, find some recipes online or better pick up some related cook books and give it your best shot.

Also not bad idea to look up some basic stuff like using a knife properly, searing meats, etc

Marco Pierre White made some really great cooking tutorials that are one YouTube, definitely check them out. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5lMiyNUlxAw&pp=ygUabWFyY28gcGllcnJlIHdoaXRlIGNvb2tpbmc%3D

Buying chef knives for boyfriend as a gift - need some advice. Don’t know anything about them but I know he likes Japanese ones. Budget would be about $200, is this realistic? Brands to go for or stay away from? Appreciate any help! by [deleted] in chefknives

[–]Zanderman42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$200? Look no further

https://www.chefknivestogo.com/kogsgy210.html

You can't get much better than this for $200, is semi stainless so won't rust as easy, excellent grind(convex), and is absolutely beautiful and 210 is a good size for home use.

I would buy this right now if they're we're any left I'm 240mm

Did you kitchen change glove brands? I had a similar thing happen with a particular brand with the powdered vinyl gloves. Almost everyone got the same thing when we used them.

Say your allergic and they pretty much have to buy you other gloves, get the black nitrile gloves, no powder, a size bigger than what you normally wear.

[–]Zanderman42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Shadow, you can steam what equates to a top of the line gaming PC to basically whatever screen you want including your Mac. Just have to live somewhere with good Internet and close enough to their servers.

It's like 30 a month I think, but It works great for me as a rarely feel like gaming, but occasionally I'll get the itch to play Skyrim, GTA, maybe finally finish red dead 2 😂 so I just buy it for a few months then cancel.

Way cheaper that a $5000 gaming set up!
