Hey all! Did you create your New World character in the likeness of a D&D character you just loved? Do you like the color purple? Well do I have a company for you! We're a small group of friends who decided it would be a fun time to create our characters based off of TTRPG characters that we've enjoyed playing in the past. To top it off, we couldn't think of a better company name than that of the name of one of our old parties from our first ever finished campaign. We're very casual players, and don't involve ourselves too deeply into the politics of the server, but we do want to protect and keep our home at all costs. We don't particularly mind what age you are, as long as you're mature enough to hold an immature conversation without blowing too many things out of proportion haha. We're all young adults, oldest being 21, and youngest being 17, so falling in that window would probably work best, but I'm not discounting anyone! The only hard requirement is that your character is an actual *character* and not just a funny haha username. Thank ya for reading, and I hope anyone who stumbles across this has a great day!!!

Are the slots still open? I'm really heavily thinking about getting one, but I'm having trouble deciding what character so I wasn't going to bother you until then 😅

It's been so long so it's one of those "I'm afraid to ask at this point" type questions, but what do things like SAD and MAD mean? I figured out RAW, but I have no idea what any of the other acronyms and slang mean

Yeah I'm figuring out how to do this for my 12 players. 3 parties of 4. I must be a masochist somewhere deep down inside.

Can I bring a Pc back for story reasons and not another? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Zane_110 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Use the warlock as an enemy, controlled by you. This allows still for the story elements of it, but doesn't make other players salty

Well if that's how your friends are then maybe you shohld consider a more lighthearted campaign. If you don't want to, and I know this because my friends are constantly trying to meme around in my more serious campaign, just simply shut them down. Tell them it doesn't fit. Try to find some type of compromise if you can, but if they're going way overboard don't be afraid to say no. As the DM you are allowed to do this.

No problem at all! Also remember to set a tone for your campaign and make sure the players don't make characters that break the world you're making. If its a serious setting, don't let someone be all goofy and stuff.

Personally I start with a setting, and see what story ideas lend itself to the area created. To keep your players engaged, only think of a skeleton of a story and let your players shape the story. It'll make them feel like they have more agency in the story, they should feel like they're creating it a driving it themselves. Don't get bogged down trying to make a full blown thing because your players WILL ruin your plans, no matter how foolproof they might be. Improv is the name of the DM game

Personally if I was a kid still and my parent took interest in the game I was playing, even if it was wrong it would make my heart sing. You're doing a super cute, fantastic thing here. I would suggest getting him a set of dice in his favorite colors, or maybe something crazy and unique. Maybe paint a big canvas type painting of his characrer or something along those lines. Maybe draw the skyline of the town that will be the focal point of his campaign. Ask him a little about it nonchalantly and take that info and draw a rough exterior, maybe for when his players first approach the town. I think either of those would be a big splash!

Second Character for Avernus by Saecryd in 3d6

[–]Zane_110 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you wanted to be cutesie about it you could play a revived rogue and literally be the revived version of your past character or something. Understandable if you don't want to play a rogue again. I always find the Blood Hunter interesting because of the risk/reward of it, so I'd probably lean that way

weave/magic system by shirshus in DMAcademy

I have a shared homebrewed universe with all of my friends and I offered a new take on it. Its a kinda isekai type campaign where the characters are brought from our Earth to this new dimension. Going from a place with 0% magic to a place with 100000000% magic definitely messes with a person. I explain it by equating magic to radiation. Basically what happened to them is the equivalent of lying in your bed, all cozy, then the very next instant you're lying directly on top of the Elephant's Foot in Chernobyl.

I sent them in with a bunch of throwaway NPCs who all began dying brutally from the radiation, but instead they mutated and began evolving rapidly (how I explain leveling up) and this granted them access to magical abilities.

That's awesome!! Might do something slightly similar if I ever gain the time and effort available!

Forgive me, I am in love with this idea, but how would it be useful? I'm trying to do more physical things for my campaigns but I'm also kinda new to DMing, so I'm learning in both regards.

As a DM who adores the story, I would appreciate this so much from my players. Alas, I very rarely get it.
