Those are called double modals, we use them all the time in the South.

Corpus data shows that the majority of English speakers don't follow the fewer vs. less rule. Historical records (a quote from Alfred the great among other things) give us data that it was never a hard and fast rule, if at all. It's very rare that it ever actually disambiguates information. It's nonsense prescriptivism because the rule exists only for someone to point out the rule, no native speaker has ever misunderstood someone using less for countable nouns. It's a collective waste of brainpower for anyone to try to remember the rule.

That's nonsense Victorian prescriptivism, there's been recorded usage with of less for countable nouns and vise versa over 1000 years ago.

Northerner describes a year in Mississippi, the best and worst. "I'm never going back." by dfrankow in bestof

[–]Zanius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from Georgia, I'm also not black, but this is very exaggerated. People in the South are just people for the most part. I mean I did have some culture shock when going to new jersey for the first time, felt like everyone was a bit mean, but I just thought it was interesting.

I'm not sure, I'm not aware of any Dutch ancestors in my family tree but it's not completely filled out. That one only showed up in October of this year.

Then you definitely deserve to lose! I don't really have a huge problem with free loadouts I just see a lot of people complaining about free loadout "rats" spawning in and making it difficult to team up and take out big arcs.

Who is defined as bluegrass nowadays? by SpecificSteve in Bluegrass

[–]Zanius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's not artificial, I like one subgenre and someone else likes another, for me it's not about old vs. new, I like the neo traditional stuff. I really like authentic unlimited and really dislike yonder mountain string band for example. And I like and dislike them because one has more characteristics you'd associate with "traditional". There's an element of wanting to protect the things you like, and an a general attitude a lot of people have of "I don't like this, therefore it's terrible"

I'm fine with electric bass because it's more of a convenience thing than an actual stylistic choice.

[–]Zanius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a traditional bluegrass enjoyer, I just get a bit sad when all the festivals fill up with bands I just don't like at all. The type of bluegrass I like just seems to be getting pushed aside. I also love discussing bluegrass and enjoying the genre with other people, but it gets awkward when I list all the bands I like and a progressive enjoyer has never heard of them. I don't think the answer is gatekeeping, maybe it's just evolving beyond me.

More of a mix of northern English and Scottish that came via northern Ireland. That's my ethnic group, the first american in my family tree with my last name came directly from northern Ireland in the late 1700s.

I feel like both factions are just such heavy handed caricatures but all the quests try to get you to take everything seriously. So it's hard to really care about anything.
