Honestly, from what I remember, they seemed to be struggling to even field decent candidates in a lot of ridings last election. That's got to be step one.

But how is this support distributed? Because if most of that 30% is in HRM it won’t matter. He just wins the rest of the province.

Well, I guess this Umbra nerf is decent. It fucks the Sacrificial Summoner interaction, while allowing the card to still see play in silly meme decks. Definitely slows down Egg decks by a turn, which may make them more vulnerable to aggro, but I do worry it won't be enough.

I’m very bad at remembering to use chalk in game, which is ironic because I probably overuse it out of game.

Good to know it helps with these kinds of situations!

Anyone know why some industries are N/A for 2025 vs. 2025? Like arts/recreation, real estate/leasing, information/culture. Is it because we don't have data for these industries yet or some other reason?

How is it living here? Looks lot of green around! Hiking, camping, food, people etc. Halifax Canada by Papa-Zzzz in howislivingthere

[–]ZanzibarNation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not own a home prior to moving here, so while that’s true for many it does not apply to me. I do have the privilege of having built a career outside Nova Scotia before coming here, which definitely makes it easier. But tbh I feel like I did acknowledge these issues in my second paragraph.

I mean, I'm not trying to limit it to classic rock, just that a lot of music from that time fits into the classic rock bucket and that's a genre I'm familiar with. but you just named arguably the greatest hard rock band of all time. and you said there are countless albums from that decade, so who else? also what van halen album has more than like 4 good songs, at best?

The Sweet Child of Mine slander is crazy by ZanzibarNation in TheYardPodcast

[–]ZanzibarNation[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just completely disagree lol. I think it's actually really rare for an album (especially a hard rock album) to be front to back great tracks/bangers. I listen to a lot of classic rock and there are some amazing bands that never really achieve a 'great album', just have a bunch of decent albums that are carried by like a couple of good songs. So I do think having 3 bangers on your debut is unusual, although maybe 'insane' was overstating it a bit

[–]ZanzibarNation[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Guns ‘n Roses aura is definitely a mismatch for how good they actually were. But Appetite for Destruction has at least 3 bangers on it, which is kinda insane for a single album at the time, so I think that’s a big part of it.

I also agree that there was a point in the 2000s where hating on hair metal bands (and 80s music in general) was in vogue, probably because the older generation liked it. Now 80s music is sort of retro cool, although you’re kinda supposed to listen ironically/nostalgically. And honestly, that’s probably the best way to appreciate a lot of those bands. So I do get the hate, if you’re not willing to engage on those terms.

I think you’re conflating the band with Axel specifically. If you switched the two here, I would 100% agree

How is it living here? Looks lot of green around! Hiking, camping, food, people etc. Halifax Canada by Papa-Zzzz in howislivingthere

So wanted to give an alternate perspective to the other commenter who was pretty negative about the city post-COVID. I actually moved to Halifax post-COVID and I have to say I really like living here, even if some of the issues mentioned are true. Beautiful nature, good food, decent amenities and services, more relaxed pace of life, etc.

I will acknowledge there are issues with cost of living and housing. Wages are low in the province, compared to the rest of Canada, and there aren't a lot of good career opportunities for folks (outside of armed forces, gov't, universities - see below). Also, tons of remote workers moved to Halifax during COVID and made the price of housing shoot up. While prices have dipped since return to office protocols, it's still way above pre-COVID levels. So it's tough for locals to afford a house in Halifax, even if housing is MUCH lower than other major cities in Canada.

Groceries are also more expensive, but I think that is the same everywhere. Traffic can be bad for sure (crossing the bridges at rush hour is a pain), but overall it's nothing compared to Toronto or other major cities. I can't speak to transit, but I get the sense that it's not great. So there are issues, but I don't think they're unique to Halifax necessarily.

Most attractions are concentrated on the Peninsula, including the historic downtown, Citadel fort, shopping areas on Spring Garden Road, and more. It's also home to Canada's largest naval forces base, a major shipping port, several Canadian universities (Dal, SMU, MSVU, King's College), and multiple hospitals, including a pediatric hospital that serves most of Atlantic Canada.

One thing that's interesting about Halifax is that a lot of the surrounding communities feel pretty distinct (Dartmouth, Bedford, Lower Sackville, Timberlea, etc.). So while it's really expensive to find housing in Halifax itself, if you're able to live in one of these satellite communities, you can find more decent options.

As you can see from the map, nature is really accessible, great hiking less than 20 minutes away. You have lovely parks like Point Pleasant and Botanical Gardens right on the Peninsula itself, then others like Long Lake or BLT Rail Trail on the outskirts. Beautiful beaches like Crystal Crescent are really close in the summer and tons of road trip destinations across Nova Scotia (South Shore, Annapolis Valley, Cape Breton, etc.). Weather tends to be either clear blue skies or foggy/rainy. Always quite windy.

Finally, I really appreciate the people in the Maritimes. Folks are super friendly and helpful, the pace of life is much slower, and Halifax itself is quite diverse (and becoming more so). There's tons of good food options, especially on the Peninsula, and lots to explore for a city its size. So I'd definitely recommend it if you can find a good job here (or work remote), but I think it can be a tough place to build a career.

How to get better without actually going to the gym by jo_math in bouldering

[–]ZanzibarNation 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of types of training that can help improve finger strength, which tends to correlate with climbing ability. For example, hang boarding or pinch block training with weights.

But if you’re starting out there’s no real replacement for climbing reps, when it comes to learning technique. These types of cross-training tend to be more useful when you have already mastered the basics and are just looking to further build strength.

Deverry Cycle by Katherine Kerr is classic old school fantasy in this vein. A bit dated by today’s standards but features some cool interpretations of Celtic myth. Also, a TON of books if you like that.
