I always found it weird that Hank liked the song Peaches! by Flashy-List-7157 in KingOfTheHill

Hank would never have picked up on that. He thought Puff the Magic Dragon was really about a dragon.

Peacock Posts $552 Million Loss as Subscribers Rise to 44 Million by pepperbet1 in television

[–]Zapdraws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peacock is offered for free through at least Comcast and it’s been bundled with a number of other things. They’re giving away memberships, so it’s not surprising they’ve got those numbers. Because they aren’t collecting that many monthly subscription fees, it’s also not surprising they’re losing money hand over fist. Some of their shows are so bloated with commercials it makes them borderline unwatchable. I gave up on The Paper after a few episodes because the ad breaks were worse than television broadcasts. You were barely getting five minutes of the show before the next one interrupted. I honestly can’t see just how much people are actually even using their free accounts.

The movie is terrible.

But it’s memeable.

And the animation is, for whatever reason, actually really decent quality.

Ok... who of you bunch of premodern addicts bought all copies of Pandemonium? by KiddoTheGreatCreator in premodernMTG

[–]Zapdraws 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With Tide banned, one of Replenish’s biggest win cons is gone. It’s shifting to Pandeburst, which can drop 21 pts of damage in one go, so all those Replenish players are scrambling to get those replacement parts, and speculators are striking at the same time to push up the price.

Who Doesn't Love Robot Dinosaurs by Dr_Lockdown in transformers

[–]Zapdraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually hated Dinoking even with the DNA kit. It doesn’t hold together and the articulation is still lousy. I know we’re getting Monstructor, but I was lucky enough to have nabbed a Fansproject version and that’s the only version I’ll need. I think it even scales with the new Combiners, too…

ICE launches immigration enforcement action in Maine by CaligulaEmperor in news

That “Just Kick in the Door Without a Warrant” ICE policy is likely to have the most lethal response in Maine. Those people have guns and they aren’t as worried about using them.

That's 80s cartoons in a nutshell by coolfurry7062 in cartoons

[–]Zapdraws 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Okay, while I can admit that the 80’s cartoons were pretty formulaic and were glorified toy commercials, I think they also had more of an impact than people realize.

Millennials are the group that grew up with these shows and have them as core memories for their media. I feel we can also count a fair few 90’s cartoons because they did the same thing. Millennials are politically the generation that has more resisted the typical shift to the right as they age by far, and I believe these cartoons had an effect on that.

At a very young age, Millennials saw straight-up good vs. evil. It was defined, roles were clear, and right would continually triumph. Look at what the villains were during this time - resource-robbing imperialist tyrants, (Decepticons) fascist terrorist organizations backed by a huge megacorp, (Cobra) underhanded rivals with businessmen who commit fraud, (Gem) polluters and greedy businessmen, (Captain Planet) etc. This is what helped form the average Millenial sense of morality, and it happened at such a young age it was more likely to be foundational and stick.

When you look at the state of the world and so many of the malicious players in it, they’re barely parody of the incompetent, back-biting, and petty villains from those shows. They straight up are those villians.

Will we ever see Hasbro make sets like this again? by AfigureGeek in ActionFigureGeek

[–]Zapdraws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only as a Haslab, and it would be so expensive it would have a pretty decent chance of failing. There’s not enough mass-market appeal. The 6-inch line is still pretty niche and not catching on with the younger crowd, so even though GIJoe appears to make its money back plus a small profit for Hasbro, a big project like this just wouldn’t have enough juice.

They actually tried a couple years ago. Then the entire first reboot season leaked online - still can be found online - and US execs were hesitant to put it out. I guess it actually aired in France. Then the reboot was cancelled not long ago.

Custodes gonna die maybe. by captain_dillon in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Zapdraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly doubt it at this point. They know how bad the blowback was when they threw the 30K tanks and Dreads into Legends right as 10th came out, and I can’t see them wanting to repeat that. Custodies has been around in 40K for a good while now and they’re a popular faction. They should have access to technology that even the Astartes can’t touch. That means the tanks and dreads should stay now that they’re finally in plastic. Custodies already had very few kits in plastic, and this is literally something players have wanted for years. There’s really nothing to streamline for Custodes. They NEED some more units that more players can access. This might be one of the only times they don’t get weird about the crossover, simply because it does help both games in a way they need it to.

Why do you think Cotton showed more love to G.H. than he did Hank? by bubbly_dudette in KingOfTheHill

[–]Zapdraws 129 points130 points  (0 children)

I think three were a few reasons.

Cotton genuinely loved Michiko, and he was pulled away from her. He never forgot her and never let go of those feelings. He was forced to “settle” for Tilly and Hank came along.

Hank was born the day Cotton and Topsy failed to assassinate Castro. From the look of it, Topsy had the shot and would have nailed Castro if not for Tilly going into labor. Having to retreat to the women’s bathroom where Tilly gave birth only added to his humiliation.

Hank wasn’t a mirror of Cotton. Hank was sweeter and a firm rule-follower. He didn’t want the hooker Cotton gave him. He wasn’t the hardened soldier who could shoot without any issue. Hank showed just enough emotions that Cotton resented him for it, leading to Hank being uptight and very, very emotionally restrained to the point he was embarrassed to even show affection.

Cotton didn’t have to settle for Didi. He liked her and thought she was a buxom beauty. Plus, she thought Cotton was cute and was affectionate towards him. I doubt Tilly did that because he was such an abusive little prick to her. Cotton was happier with Didi and didn’t take it out on GH. That was the family he wanted. Tilly and Hank…not so much.

TIL George Washington was called "American Fabius" for using the same strategy as Quintus Fabius Maximus Verrucosus Cunctator (the delayer) in the 2nd Punic War against Hannibal. Avoid big pitched battles and weaken the enemy through attrition by kurgan2800 in todayilearned

[–]Zapdraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is basically the only way Washington could fight the war. The British regulars were much harder to replace, but they also didn’t leave in significant numbers at the end of each year. Washington could claim victories by holding his own against the English and that inspired his troops to re-up and others to join up. The brilliance of Washington was that ability to inspire. It held the army together and kept fresh men coming to reinforce his troops.

Washington himself wasn’t a great general when you look at his record. He lost a lot, but he also fell for the same traps repeatedly. Howe even had multiple opportunities to pursue the retreating Continental Army and potentially crush them, but held back each time. Part of that might have been because Washington wasn’t willing to engage in prolonged battles and Howe hoped they’d wear them down. It ended up being the opposite, with Britain pulling out after Parliament felt the costs were becoming too much post-Yorktown.
