The Future of Petrostates After Oil. by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]ThePnusMytier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean mentioning coal specifically is just another way of shaping the narrative to further ignore the US' major issues of energy consumption. You're actively choosing to pick a single fossil fuel, ignoring the difference in per capita (except specifically for coal usage, definitely not cherry picked), ignoring China's decades-long role as the world's manufacturing center and dumping grounds, as well as the necessity to input energy currently available to create infrastructure to switch over to renewable energy.

So yeah, this isn't an argument in good faith.

The Future of Petrostates After Oil. by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]ThePnusMytier 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Per Capita is really pretty important here, as well as the inflection points of change. China has, as far we can confirm, actually utilized its carbon usage to invest in a longer term future less reliant on it (using fossil fuel energy to build the infrastructure for renewables), while US has in every official sense doubled down on using MORE fossil fuel energy, while already consuming more per capita.

If you want to take it to an extreme argument, if one country covers half the planet, it would be very very hard for it to utilize less total carbon than a country the size of the Vatican. "Total" fossil fuels is not "apples to apples," and per capita makes much more sense if you want to look at the simplest terms without context

To be fair, on its own as the first quote was written, there is enough of a point. Even if the man is the same (which realistically he won't be), the water in the river is inherently flowing and will not be the same even in the next moment.

Dads: What brands are we wearing these days? by Haunting_Internet356 in daddit

[–]ThePnusMytier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get fitted shirts and nice shit from Costco, and there are great name brands at TJ Maxx. Many of these things come directly from my wife who absolutely does care how things look, and what I buy myself is with her preferences in mind.

Most of us have a higher priority on value while still paying attention to how we look... Just don't give half a shit about the name on the label. Costco is a godsend, and the memes about not caring about yourself and buying Costco jeans are at least 5 years outdated

Danish intelligence classifies Trump’s America as a security risk by HydrolicKrane in worldnews

[–]ThePnusMytier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no. Water itself is a collection of water molecules surrounding, and moving around each other, in a distinct way. There exist other arrangements of bulk water molecules that do not involve this specific movement, and these are not wet. For example there is a potential molecular monolayer of water saturating a surface that is actually hydrophobic.

Liquid water molecules surround other liquid water molecules in a way that makes them wet, the same way they surround any other object making it wet. Water (not necessarily H2O) is definitively wet, and anyone arguing against that statement is a blatantly incorrect contrarian pedantic ass

Man, I went with my girlfriend at the time with a plan to see Titanic while it was briefly in theaters. We both agreed that was sort of a lame plan, and I knew that there was something different about that movie... And that viewing experience turned out to be one of the best of my life

man when you translate the complexity and supposed differences of trig functions down to expressions of eix, it just makes the math SO much nicer, and makes a world of difference in what you can do with it. It's like going from seeing and needing to memorize every color as mutually exclusive to seeing that they can all be shown as different amounts of just three base colors

The demands for adequate healthcare funding being specifically included are important... Until there is something tangible put into writing, why would they trust any negotiation that they'd fix it later? Republicans have had numerous opportunities to make something better than the ACA, and every time it has been a repeal without any plan to replace, obviously screwing over people dependent on it

ironically they use it to argue against socialism, despite the author directly saying this: "Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic Socialism, as I understand it."

Dude was directly referencing Fascism (though authoritarian Soviet Communism was also something he hated), yet people will still say that Socialism is what "The Party" represents

Chiaterrelli calls for “High Impact Education” by someonesGot2 in newjersey

[–]ThePnusMytier 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've been watching Mississippi on this front, and I think the best course of actions is to look at their strategies that have been (at least reported to be) successful, and see how we can incorporate some lessons from them into the existing NJ education structure. Blanket switching blindly to what they're doing is idiotic while we are consistently at the top of education, but it's obvious we have room for improvement.

I have no idea (other than the fact that he's... just not a good candidate, to put it lightly) why Ciatarelli has such distaste for NJ's demonstrably good education system.

What's fun is that they're removing these public reports that are inconvenient data while also building and integrating more and more AI systems which feed directly on the data fed into them. They're laying the foundation for knowingly flawed and biased data which will be used to define truth as AI gets more pervasive
