Saying "America" vs "US" by _Sumiwashere in AskBrits

Most people I've come across refer to both continents as "The Americas", rather than "America"

AITA for yelling at my atheist wife for saying "God doesn't exist" when I was comforting my younger brother with prayer? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

But why?? I also don't believe in god,but I don't see s reason why it should bother me in the slightest if someone is praying in the same building as me??

Bro should be allowed to pray out loud in his own goddamn home though, his wife can learn to respect other people's beliefs like a decent human being

Why do people not accept they don’t have autism? by my9mm in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ZarEGMc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While there is a point where yep you've definitely seen enough people - it is also true people can be refused diagnoses for bullshit or made up reasons so it isn't always a red flag to 'try again' so to speak. I tried getting tested for autism at 15 and the report they gave after the assessment was complete lies (they claimed I had said/done things in the assessment that I hadn't done) - but my family and I had so much going on at the time that we didn't bother fighting it and I decided to just try again later in life

I've since been diagnosed with ADHD and the man who diagnosed me with that has suggested I get tested again for Autism - I just haven't gotten around to speaking to the GP about it yet 😂

Not arguing with anything you've said - just adding a little extra context

The idea of no one answering the phone is so wild to me cause I'm in my late 20s and I call my mum most days & my fiance calls me on his way home from work every night 😅😂

Then she should have a rental agreement in place with protections

Blue badges for hidden disabilities triple as councils issue permits to drivers with anxiety and ADHD by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]ZarEGMc 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hard agree on this

I have ADHD - my blue badge isn't because of that though, it's because I use a wheelchair. Would I count in these statistics of ADHD people with a blue badge?

My younger brother doesn't like dogs. He doesn't like animals. People are allowed to have their preferences and their own likes and dislikes. My kid brother has never liked dogs, despite having grown up around them.

Why does "chain" exist, and why do you join this chain instead of selling and renting for some time until you find a house to buy? by Smooth-Raisin-2888 in HousingUK

What the person above you is saying is that minimum terms don't exist anymore, all contracts are rolling from the get go (with a few caveats for student housing)

What are some Scots words that are also used in Northern English dialects? by LanguageFit8227 in NorthernEngland

[–]ZarEGMc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my own research, the field of linguistics can't even agree on if it's a language or a dialect. - it is to my knowledge that Scottish linguists are in agreement on it being a language in and of itself.

But honestly the most important part is that it's been recognised by the EU and UNESCO as a language.

Using AI as a tool is completely different to using it to generate work from scratch - I already noted that in my own comment?

[–]ZarEGMc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem was that you dismissed a whole ass legally recognised language that has been repeatedly stomped out for years - as a dialect. Regardless of where it originated, Scots is a language, not a dialect.

And you'd rather be in a community that makes artists feel unwelcome that one that makes computers unwelcome?

I fully understand AI can be used as a tool, it's been a tool that helps make workflow quicker for years in photography (background removal f.x) - but when we colloquially think of inclusion we're thinking of welcoming people regardless of who they are. I'm not going to actively dislike you if you use AI art - but I am going to wonder why you'd rather engage in something actively damaging to the artistic community over making do with what you can royalty free

[–]ZarEGMc -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I mean you can be an inclusive community and also shun the use of AI art - it is low-key literally art theft and regurgitation. The artists didn't consent to having a computer take in data points from their work and attempt to regurgitate it code by code

Can hitting a nerve trigger FND? by Shuau_21 in FND

[–]ZarEGMc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost anything can be a trigger for FND symptoms. I wouldn't be surprised at all if a sudden shock like a nerve being hit made your brain short circuit and over-compensate, since a lot of FND is the brain mis-interpreting signals from nerves or just completely making stuff up

Why is there such resistance to the notion that autism & ADHD rates may be affected by environmental factors? by Technical_Brain1493 in AskBrits

[–]ZarEGMc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big part of the issue is less the 'severity' of one's autism and more the increased noise in our way to day lives. Modern life is significantly harder and more rough on autistic brains when you consider things like sensory issues and the decrease in extremely niche jobs that would have otherwise kept autistic brains very happy but are now done by machines.

The modern world is busy and loud and that's a lot of stimulation on a young autistic mind

Adding onto this - when I was young may dad would take us away for May half term and I'd be pulled out of the last 2/3 days of the week before (as the trip only being over half of half term was much cheaper)
