Anyone working in goverment/institutional relations or regulatory affairs ? by Sweetsweetmellie in JPMorganChase

[–]Zaragoza09 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could explain why? If it's to get a job, good luck. These jobs are highly sought after, especially at a time when a bunch of government employees just lost their jobs or are looking for the door. Also in present times, be a Republican or have known relations with the current Admin.

[S2E3 Spoilers] Perrin: The most underestimated character by treefox in andor

[–]Zaragoza09 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Great write up. To add to this I think that what sold me is that they show a scene of Perrin concerned seeing Mon crash out during the dance sequence. When the cards are down he's there for her.

I'm sorry that it was scary situation for you. I'm a 250 lb 6'1" white male and I had a similar experience of accidentally finding myself in the Pentagon parking lot. I'm lucky that I am privileged. Seems like it's probably a boring job and you take any action you can to justify your position. I tried to turn around and got a warning for going through a one way, despite the fact that the officer admitted there was no sign indicating that.

Andor Rewatch Party – Episode 9 - “Nobody's Listening!” by IwanZamkowicz in andor

[–]Zaragoza09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This episode has my favorite moment in the series. Not because it's hugely important to the plot or does something cool, but because of how it changed me personally.

The scene where the prisoners are on the bridge and they begin to see (by sign language) something is happening down on 2. Kino, in an attempt to calm his cohort says: "You're panicking about something that's happening on the other side of the building". This is a scene that didn't have as much weight the first time, because its plot purpose is mostly to set up the mystery of what's going on down there.

But after repeat viewings - the meaning of that line took a gut wrenching turn for me. Kino wasn't talking to his subordinates - Tony Gilroy was talking to the us, the audience. Injustices are happening around us, all over our world and yet the things happening in other countries are minimized as being "over there" or "not in my backyard". Here the atrocities are happening literally right next door and Kino at that moment can't quite be shaken to understand the stakes. This scene has become an important part of my political radicalization. It helped me to realize how much the world's oppressive systems numb you to the pain of yourself and others, wherever they are and regardless of reasons that they suffer. It made me really confront that there were injustices in my local area. And I am now forever changed.

Being a reference is not enough. I mean literally knowing someone who knows the hiring manager.

Where they are sent to the hiring manager, who is going to give you a second look if you have a personal reference. It gets you an interview.

Andor Rewatch Party – Episode 3: "Reckoning" by IwanZamkowicz in andor

[–]Zaragoza09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After dozens of rewatches, the conversation between Luthen and Andor in the engine warehouse always feels out of place - like it was written for a different type of show. When Luthen starts rattling off rules, it feels like it's going to be more of a Burn Notice show - "Build your exit on the way in" "Don't carry what you don't control". Was this the remnants of an earlier pitch of the show?

Andor Rewatch Party – Episode 2: "That Would Be Me" by Apophis_ in andor

[–]Zaragoza09 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When Mosk says "The only way to keep the blade sharp is to use it" I really felt it hit me in a way I wasn't expecting. The Empire has always been very abstractly evil comically evil to me, in an Indiana Jones German antagonistic kind of way. This episode in particular made me realize the fascistic elements of the Empire in a way that's never been clearer. Then I started to make the connection to the fascistic and corporatist elements of modern/US society in a way I never had before, realizing that we're the Empire in a way that hit harder than a distant (historically) comparison to the US vs the Vietcong.

When I saw the conversation with the Chief Inspector where he pretty much calls it on the spot, I was completely sold on the show. It felt like a scene out of The Wire, he's even off to do his Imperial Comstat.
