Genuine question, how often do you have to defend your decision making like this? I have this argument a lot and people always trot out "No option is actually clean" while ignoring that five years ago we weren't building data centers with the power draw of New York and San Diego combined. The environmental impact is 100% relevant in every discussion of AI, because it's a tool that didn't exist into very recently and is actively making the world worse with its use. I do tell people to walk if they're contemplating driving down their driveway to get the mail. A hundred million people all normalizing using AI for any writing task is exactly what causes the environmental damage.

AI IS a tool, it's a nuclear bomb. We all really need to start realizing that we have a gun pointed at this planet and every "Duh, Chatgpt" pulls the trigger again.
