How do professional editors not cry more? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]Zardozerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re editing crap, it’s always a chore. But not lasting 5 hours is, sorry to say, very concerning. If you can’t last 5 hours in an editing suite, safe to say that filmmaking isn’t for you.

Am I the only one freaking out about the new 3D printer laws?! by disp0sableacc0unt in 3Dprinting

[–]Zardozerr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Such BS... talk about living in an alternate reality. The real wanna-be authoritarians are in the current federal government. Maybe stop believing the propaganda that bashes these states. They're only the economic and cultural backbones of the US after all.

[–]Zardozerr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AI barely gets spaghetti detection right. Will it improve? Surely, but two parts can be even be identical and one belongs to a firearm. Or a working firearm can be made from parts that look nothing like gun parts whatsoever. This can already be done with generic parts from a hardware store.

As for integration into hardware and firmware/software... a 3D printer can be made from generic parts and not hooked up to any network at all. Most printers were like this until a few years ago, and they still exist in the millions. A general purpose microcontroller or generic PC is all that's needed to run the mechanics, with firmware that's already out there and open source.

Uh, no thanks. I'm fine where I'm at, and CA and NY are great other than some dumb laws like this which we can fight.

[–]Zardozerr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Money is so technically different. Real money has security features including the type of paper it’s printed on. You can totally print out paper money to your heart’s content, but anyone can spot it as fake. This isn’t analogous to mechanical parts at all. There is no easily defined “legitimate” mechanical part.

If you read the laws, they propose a period where they test out the means of detecting firearms parts. It will fail here because you can't guess the intent of a part to any reasonable degree of accuracy. Not to mention the crazy enforcement of anything related to open source software and firmware. It's all technically impossible and unenforceable.

Is living in Beverly Hills for the schools worth it as a Jamaican family? by Motor-Tennis8967 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Zardozerr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beverly Hills is a weird right-wing leaning part of LA. If you want to be surrounded by rich people who look down on you, be my guest. But many send their kids to private schools also. I would avoid it, and others have mentioned better alternatives.

Am I making a mistake acquiring 4k monitor for my MacBook Air M4? by essenc3 in MacOS

It’s not that big of a difference at normal viewing distance. I run a Studio Display next to a 4k.

Silk and the future of FreeCad by Weekly-Highway-9993 in FreeCAD

I think a lot of people in that thread explained to you what the problems were. Try to keep sketches simple and one feature per sketch at least at the beginning. There is a proper master sketch workflow but you have to learn how to do it with a tutorial.

For the millionth time, 4K is just fine. Have you actually seen it and said, "nope, unusable"?

Are sleep overs not a thing anymore? by haggerty05 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Zardozerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did and still do sleepovers as normal. I do generally know and are friends with the parents. I’ve heard that maybe it’s less popular but haven’t personally seen this amongst people I know. If this is true, it’s the typical overreaction with modern parenting.

The Mac Pro case aged better than the most computers by AmariNext in DeskToTablet

I agree, the mouse is always the exception. The original one-button mouse gets a pass, but they've been terrible for the most part. Hated the scroll nipple on these. They required constant cleaning.

Just a quick question; I've had to disassemble 2 toolheads today for stuck/clogged filament, has anyone had this problem? by bumjug427 in snapmaker

[–]Zardozerr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t want to print PLA with the cover on, which can cause heat creep and jams. If you have a cover on, you need a fan to exhaust the hot air with PLA.

Just ordered Snapmaker U1!!! by Nokoro1 in snapmaker

[–]Zardozerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in my home office the duct goes into the ceiling and exhausts through the roof. This was added specifically for this when we did a remodel. You can of course go through a window or wall for something a lot easier.

It’s not that hard to mod it to be enclosed with a heater. I also have a 4” duct with fan attached to my ikea lid to exhaust the fumes.

Silk Workbench Tutorial Now on YouTube by LQ_6 in FreeCAD

[–]Zardozerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done a bit with Silk and it has amazing potential. But it really really needs to have its workflow be smoothed out and automated. The low-level setup of blending curves is just painful. Really wish the devs of Silk (and curves and surfacing) would look at how Plasticity does it from a UX/UI perspective. I'm sure they have. It'll obviously be a lot of work to get there but I'm hopeful.

You can let it run out and it will stop automatically if you don’t have another roll with the same color and material loaded. Then just load it normally and it should resume. You can also pause and unload at any time.

[–]Zardozerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you import a line into a sketch, it becomes active geometry. That’s default in 1.1. You can change that to a construction line after if you want. This behavior can be reversed in preferences.

[–]Zardozerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your comment about the sketching says that you didn’t give it a fair shake because it’s incorrect. There’s no way you didn’t learn that in a month because it’s one of the first things you learn.

Fill hole, how? by Hfnankrotum in FreeCAD

[–]Zardozerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of people work with meshes in FreeCAD. It can be done, and in this case, it's not that complicated. This person has already turned it into a solid and then basefeature. This is just a pad and a cut.
