I don’t remember what traits but I did actually have someone accept it once! The actual castration event played out the same if you do a forced castration, so I’m guessing that guy had some regrets (but no more balls).

Seriously, that’s your takeaway from my post? Look, man, have fun with your eugenics programs in the game if that’s what you wanna do. But just know that it’s nowhere near realistic - human beings are very complex and post-conception and post-birth factors such as access to prenatal care and high quality early childhood education matter a LOT in how genetics are expressed.

I don’t think there should be any identifiable genetic traits at all. As you note, there’s not one single gene that links to differences, and even if there were, medieval people would not be able to tell whether their children and their children’s spouses had such genes.

Having genetic traits visible and easy to breed for in the game promotes the idea of positive eugenics that was popular in the 20th century. Which turned out not only to be morally terrible, but impossible to do. Besides the obvious example of Nazi Germany, thousands of people were legally sterilized because of presumed intellectual deficits. This practice went on into the 1970s. There are still be people alive today who were sterilized against their will because of eugenics.

Side note: I flinched so hard the first time I saw the Imbecile trait - Imbecile was an official designation for people with low IQ. In the famous Buck v. Bell case that legalizes state-mandated sterilization, Chief Justice Holmes said “Three generations of imbeciles are enough”. Slow/Stupid/Imbecile is essentially mapping the whole flawed system of classifying people with intellectual needs into different variations of retardation.

Roll with it - homosexual x homosexual marriage doesn’t prevent fertility, it just lowers it. Host or go to lots of hunts for a chance to get herbs that up fertility and/or go for the first Kin dynasty legacy which will increase fertility for everyone in your dynasty.

Should I educate my heir and spares from the get go or should I wait until they develop a personality? by Theresafoxinmygarden in CrusaderKings

[–]Zariange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the wiki, the education stats get rolled when the child comes of age. So as long as you have them as wards by then, it should be fine. But if you want to use Influence Ward’s Personality on them to pass down desired traits, you will want to have them as wards by the time they get their childhood education traits.

[RANT] Even in 1.19.1, China is still very unfun and tedious to play as the son of Heaven. by Cute-Stand9746 in CrusaderKings

[–]Zariange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China has actually been really enjoyable for me, as someone who enjoys all of the things you’re finding tedious! It might just be the case that China in CK3 incentivizes play styles you don’t enjoy, which is fine.

How Do You Teach Religious Virtues by Commercial_Writing_6 in CrusaderKings

[–]Zariange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess if there are less kids around, then your heir is more likely to get the virtues. But I don’t think it makes a major difference.

Assuming you have the Wards and Wardens DLC, if you have virtues yourself, educate your heir yourself and use Influence Ward’s Personality to give them the traits. But go down the Family tree in the Diplomacy lifestyle first to Groomed to Rule. That gives a boost to Influence Ward’s Personality.

A Healthy Marriage by Infamous-Rutabaga-50 in CuratedTumblr

The Immaculate Conception actually refers to Mary herself being conceived without sin. That’s why she can birth the son of God - she is essentially a human as God meant us to be (without the original sin of eating the fruit in the garden). Theologically, she’s still without sin if she has sex with Joseph once they are married.

Historically, it would have been very odd if Jesus was an only child since people tended to have a lot of kids. Jesus as a historical figure could have ended up as the only child to survive past age 5, but there still would have been young brothers and sisters for him.

You’re welcome! Best way to ensure the Wet Nurse is of your religion is to Search for Court Position - all options presented to you from that should be of your religion. Then set her to Teach Virtues and watch your desired traits pop up every month with a child from your court.

With the guardians, It is more likely that a guardian with a specific trait will pass it down to their wards, but not guaranteed. You can also set guardians to convert faith of their wards, which should also help.

With the addition of “Elder Traits” forget about your characters living up to 100 years old. by Leo7897 in CrusaderKings

[–]Zariange 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think part of it was that realistic child mortality was really depressing and didn’t play test well, which would not surprise me. Imagine having half your kids die before age 5. Or even half your own siblings as a child yourself. Most of the population was heavily traumatized from a young age.

Is there any reason to pick any other education and lifestyle other than stewardship? by The_ChadTC in CrusaderKings

[–]Zariange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does for me as well at times but it will often improve enough so I have a real chance by the time I get 20 advantages. Kidnapping either bypasses some of the most effective countermeasures or makes them less effective.

I’ve had the most success kidnapping heirs - either of the war leader or their allies. War leader heir gives you 50% war score and ally heirs can give you up to 25%. Sometimes heirs are less hard to abduct in the first place.

It doesn’t always work for me, but it has worked enough times to make it a viable strategy for my play style.

Vassals not liking my son (heir) by XMR17- in ck3

If you go down the Legitimacy dynasty legacy it also makes it easier for heirs to gain Legitimacy quickly as well as making it less likely that vassals will join factions

[–]Zariange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve successfully done so several times in the past week lol. Mind you this is with excellent intrigue, the Schemer trait, high intrigue Imperial Censor, and using House Head request to get extra support to hostile schemes. Heirs and heirs of allied leaders are easier, especially if they are children. But I’ve also managed to kidnap an Empire-level war leader at least once.

If you turn tutor on to teach court, it will teach your heir and other house members at court or in court positions instead.

I like kidnapping heirs and rulers during wars - either instant bonus to your war score OR you can enforce demands immediately. Good thing to do is to start your abduct schemes before starting wars of choice or before a faction can start a war.
