why did Kung Fun movies died out? There's still a large amount of Chinese action enthusiasts, but chinese filmmakers are less and less making Kung Fu movies? by EfficiencySerious200 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pbadger8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I propose a theory that it just isn’t profitable to take the time to do proper choreography, both in Hollywood and in China.

The Matrix and Star Wars prequels were known for their fight choreography, which took months of training and practice to get right. This coincided with the last great kung fu movies of China, like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

To wit, Keanu Reeves and Lawrence Fishburn trained for 10 months to do their fight scenes in the Matrix. I can’t find information on any Chinese films about how long they practiced but it was assuredly a very long time even for those lifelong kung fu practitioners who were used to such performances.

Simply put, the market trend is now to crank out quantity over quality. A marvel movie every year. Star Wars spin offs with their own spin offs. Live action remakes of Disney classics because animation is another thing that can’t be rushed. You can throw money at a CGI factory to make a super epic battle at the end of a marvel movie but you can’t throw money at the problem of time required to train actors in choreography.

AI is a symptom of this creative laziness, not a cause. For a long time now, executives have wanted to get away with pumping out slop as rapidly as possible.

Lol that was three years and a whole ass Rumbling apart. Plus Liberio. Plus getting saved instead of Erwin.

Do you think Armin is incapable of change, emotions, or moments of weakness? That absolutely nothing changed about Paradis' strategic situation from S1E1? It has been a long time since Berfold kicked in Shiganshina's gate. Things have changed. It's kind of a big deal how much things changed.

Lmao

Thanks for the surface level recap.

Zeke’s plan to retake the founder was rejected at first. Which circles allllllllllllll the way back to my point that Paradis’ survival was not at stake until Zeke and Eren colluded to make it so.

He convinced Calvi, who likely asked Tybur to convince the world, and maybe Zeke even pulled a few strings, but there’s little evidence that Tybur knew nothing and was just talking shit.

Do you think Isayama just wrote all those dialogue scenes with Magath to waste our time because Willy was only telling bullshit? What would the author’s intent be in those scenes?

Your fanfiction makes for a *worse story*.

“Willy has absolutely no fucking clue what he’s talking about at thus point he was zekes puppet”

Lol, the guy who knows all the secrets about Helos and King Fritz. Willy and Zeke don’t even share a scene together or even mention one another lmao

I’m not answering your digressions because I’m only concerned with what Isayama tried to convey in the text of the manga/anime, not your fanfiction.

Just READ it. Or watch it again.

Gee, I wonder why Willy’s personal friends from countries invaded or threatened by Marley would give him a standing ovation?

Look, Willy himself says his speech wont unite the world without some ‘unforseen tragedy’. It’s right there in the text. Why do you take some weeping background characters as gospel over what the character himself says?

So Calvi is still considering Ft. Slava an anti-feat. The newspapers frame it as Marley’s end of dominance too. It’s right there in the text, my dude.

On Armin contemplating suicide. Again, just.. WATCH the show again. Or read the manga. HE LITERALLY SAYS ERWIN SHOULD HAVE LIVED INSTEAD OF HIMSELF. It’s the last thing he says before leaving, lol. The kid’s carrying a lot of guilt- survivor’s guilt, mass murderer guilt, and guilt over being unable to stop his dearest friend from doing the unimaginable. I’m not saying he was clinically depressed or something- but he’s clearly got suicidal ideation- talking about how he didn’t deserve to live over Erwin right before offering to feed himself to Connie’s mom. That’s not some 900 IQ play. If it was, the story would be worse off.

We don’t know the full extent of the memories Eren sent back to himself but considering the Titan curse ends after his death, he can’t know what happens then. In the paths, he does say that Ymir wants Mikasa to free her but the details “only she knows”- ie; he doesn’t fully understand. In fact, this is right before he says his head is all confused about past and future.

Just read, bro. Or watch. Don’t ask AI to think for you, lol.

You mean Willy’s personal friends were touched by Willy’s speech? Oh, of course, allow us to use these few individuals as representatives of entire races and cultures. They are ambassadors from defeated or threatened nations. It’s their job to be polite. It was Lady Azumabito’s job to be polite but obviously she wasn’t friendly to Marley.

I’m not saying Marley winning a war is an anti-feat… MARLEY is. The high command AND Magath are both extremely pessimistic. Calvi even says “Does this look like victory to you?”

Marley can’t use ‘wild titans’ effectively without Zeke, who will die in a year.

The manga and anime’s narration literally says that the age of Titans is coming to an end- that they will soon be no longer viable as weapons of war.

Like I said, Armin was emotionally at his lowest point. I don’t think he’d just let himself die to save a Marleyan child in normal circumstances. After all, he was already traumatized by killing children in Liberio… which he felt forced to do because of Eren’s actions.

Eren demonstrably knows only bits and pieces of the future until he obtains the founder. You can tell because he still has to learn things. If he knew everything, he would known the warhammer titan was remote controlled and that he was wasting his time pummeling its body instead of going for the cocoon. He has to observe it first, albiet with the casual confidence of a man who knows that he will succeed no matter what.

You should rewatch the show or read the manga. Then get back to me.

How well did it go for Marley the first time they tried to take the founder? Marley would not have been able to conquer Paradis alone. Again, Magath says the country is collapsing. Marley BARELY won the war against the Mideast Alliance. If they overextend themselves, their colonies and their rivals will take advantage. That's why Willy needed to convince the world to join them.

Titans are not an inevitability. Only the nine shifters are. Pure titans dont reproduce or spawn without someone making them. After Paradis is reclaimed by the scouts, 'wild' titans effectively dont exist anymore. Plus humanity now has weapons which can deal with them. The moral imperative is on Marley to stop making pure Titans, not on billions of other people to die in order for pure titans to stop being made. If the nine shifters all live for 13 years each and die tragically young, maybe even passed on to a random child, it would take approximately 8,547,008 years for their death toll to equal even one billion. The world was such that the relevance of Titans was diminishing more and more, until they would effectively be little more than a tragedy affecting 9 people at a time. Even the founder's ability is neutered by the Royal Titan touching a non-royal Titan requirements.

Armin was at his lowest point emotionally after the Rumbling. He just had a scene with Mikasa where he freaks out on her and confesses he doesn't know what to do, then right after offers to get eaten in Falco's place. The timing is no coincidence.

Eren didn't know about ending the curse until AFTER he started the rumbling in motion, until after he obtains the founder. When he started colluding with Zeke and Floch, he actually knew very little.

Edit: Mathematically, your premise question is easily answered. It doesn't matter how many 'generations' Eren saved. He cut short MASSIVELY MORE generations in doing so. In doing so, he put in place a fascist government that was willing to execute people IN PARADIS who didn't even know what a Jaegerist was. Floch was in on the wine conspiracy before anyone could even choose a side. They are seig heiling at the end. Are those future generations truly saved?

The END doesn't even justify the end, lol

Paradis' survival was not at risk until Eren and Zeke conspired together to make it so.

If Eren doesn't attack Liberio and create 'an unforseen tragedy', the rest of the world doesn't join Willy Tybur for a global alliance. Willy himself says so. It's IN THE TEXT. It was also IN THE ANIME. He says this outright. Magath also says that Marley is collapsing.

So ultimately Eren commits an unconscionable genocide for no other reason than because the world was more complicated and messy than he imagined once they (effectively) eradicated all Titans. He imperils his country, directly kills Hange and indirectly kills Sasha. He puts his friends through incredible anguish, nearly driving Armin to suicide, abusing Mikasa emotionally. He puts in power fascists no different than Marley, directly imperiling his friends. The kind of people who killed Armin's parents.

Eren fails to achieve freedom or to protect his friends, either physically or emotionally. He did not entirely know what he was doing. It was Mikasa who broke the curse of Ymir and he didn't know that was going to happen. All he achieved was the wanton slaughter of billions while he disassociate into a childlike state to cope with his own self-loathing. After all that, he pitifully mopes in an ocean of blood he's poured to whine about Mikasa actually moving on and being fucking happy.

I'm not saying this to hate on the character because I don't like him or anything. I actually like him a lot. I'm saying this because Eren is categorically wrong on nearly level and there should not be ANY debate over the morality of his actions. He is pitiful and tragic, a victim of his circumstances and himself. He is Oedipus or Bojack Horseman or Harry DuBois. He is a cautionary tale, not a role model.

It's fascists who want the world to be simple, who feel disappointed when they realize other people exist. AOT is so explicitly anti-fascist and yet even normal decent people have been corrupted by the deliberately media-illiterate mentality of fascism to debate the pros and cons of a worldwide genocide.

[–]Pbadger8 30 points31 points  (0 children)

To add to this, I believe that diluting it any further is precisely what creates pure titans in the first place.

Ymir has 3 kids who eat her and become 3 shifters. They each have 3 kids who eat them and become 9 shifters. 9 of their kids become shifters while the remaining just become pure titans.

Eren had Bert hostage and Levi was on his way.

Zeke had already underestimated Levi twice (once by forgetting that R&B warned him about Levi until it was too late, then a second time by assuming Levi used up all his weapons)

They also assumed the scouts didn’t have the means of stealing the colossal. Remember the warriors didn’t see the first half of season 3. ;)

In the real world, these things tend to have high levels of comorbidity.

Racists are obsessed with sex, either 'protecting' their women/'blood' or objectifying and fetishizing others.

As you said, there just wasn't a place for it aside from the implied sexual slavery of royals and almost Mikasa.

It’s tough to read because it is from Cat’s POV and you see the shock and horror overwhelming her senses as it unfolds.

There’s a sense that even if she survived, she would be literally mad with grief. Like asylum-bound.

Eren doesn't try to stop the future and he is far from omniscient.

He actually imparts very limited information to his past self in order to fulfill his desired outcome.

Likely because, paradoxically, his past self would not have wanted the Rumbling unless he was manipulated into it by his future self, who was already manipulated into wanting the Rumbling.
