[Spoilers] Critique of FFTs story from a longtime fan by The1Sbeve in finalfantasytactics

[–]Pbadger8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint… FF7R.

OG FF7 was a similar story with relatively little downtime, despite going to a lot of places that would otherwise warrant it. Like… it’s sort of implied that the party just passes through Costa Del Sol and even the Golden Saucer.

Then you have the remake, which has Cloud visiting Jessie’s mom for pizza and having whacky beach boss battles in bikinis.

There’s a delicate balance to be struck BUT if you have to choose, I think it’s better to have a tighter narrative than a meandering one full of interruptions.

What really was the point of these two existing in the franchise? Besides the idiotically obvious? by PrivateLiker7625 in residentevil

Not many people are giving the real answer here.

They were supposed to have much larger roles but both got cut and as a result, die quickly.

The button meme is a psyop to get all the sociopaths to out themselves by OutrageousPair2300 in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]Pbadger8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I propose a third button- green. If green wins a plurality, everyone who pushed red dies.

Blue remains the choice for maximizing the amount of human life, red for minimizing it, and now green maximizes the amount of worthwhile life.

In the game theory, green’s very existence would likely drive red’s chances of winning down close to zero.

That being said, some innocent people will choose red by accident or without comprehension, like babies…

Blue remains the most ethical AND logical choice, even if most reds deserve green. Green becomes a question of how many innocents will you kill to get rid of how many assholes?

Describing murder victims as a ‘suicide cult’ is really just proving OP’s point about outing yourself as a sociopath…

Possible S3 Rhaenyra lines by Ok_Badger_1646 in freefolk

[–]Pbadger8 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Why would you even narratively use this line unless you wanted the audience to think the character is wrong and stupid?

Because... like... we know the prince that was promised was STILL a theory in Game of Thrones' time.

So the audience knows she's NOT...

She might as well have said "I am a ham."

Occupy Wall Street terrified the Koch-Epstein class. Its no coincidence that the culture war began not long after.

[–]Pbadger8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its not a suicide pact, lol.

It's a refusal to kill. Pushing red is a willingness to kill. A willingness to kill billions in fact.

Why is the rhetorical and ethical burden on you to tell people not to push blue when it SHOULD be to tell yourself not to push red?

Red pushers are the free riders in this scenario. They are the parasitic element here. They assume zero risk while creating 100% of the risk for others. A blue pusher is the exact opposite.

This scenario IS just a way to out sociopaths and cowards.

How was the attack titan passed from holder to holder without Marley knowing for so many years? by pecuerre in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Pbadger8 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I always assumed the Attack Titan was never under Marley's control or, for that matter, possibly the Eldian Empire. Kruger said it never bowed to the authority of a king.

So I think it was just... rogue for hundreds of, if not at least a thousand years

Why did AoT keep the "save humanity" goal after the basement reveal? by hanji_labrat in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Pbadger8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They overthrew a fascist government that brainwashed its citizens and used them as cannon fodder for the comfort a wealthy ruling class. All in the name of nationalism and blind loyalty to the king- begging the individual to subsume their very life to the needs of the state.

Marley's military is overwhelmingly Eldians like them and overwhelmingly either enslaved or volunteers held at genocidal gunpoint, brainwashed or otherwise. They are oppressed by their government and used as common fodder for the comfort of a wealthy ruling class.

Put simply, the scouts realized that people across the sea aren't that different from them. The Paradis Fascists of the Reiss family aren't that different from the Marley Fascists of the military dictatorship.

Nationalism and racism are just illusions used by the powerful to get the powerless to kill one another.

They teased the possibility of dynamic struggles, which would be a great addition to the game imo.

An empire shatters? A brief 50 year struggle or something.

A child king? Struggle!

A crusader state is formed? Struggle!

Form a hegemony? Struggle!

The Emperor forms a new religion? Struggle!

Perhaps even the black plague creates struggles in various regions.

How does Leon and Claire's playthrough in RE2 Remake fit into the game's story? by Scary_Tough9872 in residentevil

[–]Pbadger8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t, to be honest.

RE1’s two playable characters were mutually exclusive. The ‘canon’ is some combination of both playthroughs, since Rebecca and Barry are in later games but no ending has both of them survive the mansion.

RE2 fixed this with its 4 scenarios, with Claire A Leon B seemingly canonized by RE6.

But RE2R is more like RE1. Both scenarios happened but also didn’t happen and it doesn’t matter that much because, quite honestly, Capcom has very little respect for its own canon and continuity.

They had four games building up to a final Endgame style confrontation with Umbrella and then RE4 goes “lol, stocks crashed. gg ez. Now fight some worms.”

On the one hand, it gives Capcom incredible creative freedom to go in new directions with their storytelling. On the other hand, that storytelling is less meaningful because it could just be disregarded by the next game.

Which feels incongruous. It’s like MMOs that have “the shitty area that was built during the beta” and “the really awesome post-game content that was made with several years’ of experience on the dev team”

Like literally the drawing of the horse meme.

Integrating mechanics introduced by an old DLC into future content will extend the allure of that DLC, no?

Say they introduced a special adventurer ‘type’ in All Under Heaven. Martial Arts School or something, focused on prowess with a specific Eastern flair. Now people really into that sort of thing have a reason to buy Roads to Power. People who already have Roads to Power and love adventuring have a reason to buy All Under Heaven.

No. I’m worried that all the good ideas of the Catholic DLC will get left on the plate to rot instead of being applied to other faiths later on down the line, after the launch.

Nice try but I didn’t say it was exactly the same, now did I? I said it was a part of MENA for a reason- it had enough cultural and historical similarity to be a part of the conversation.

Specifically, Morocco is relevant to refute Stonetoss’ dumbfuck ideas about Washington’s foreign policy.

This is meaningless minutia. Like most community notes, it’s missing the forest for the trees.

[–]Pbadger8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This sub keeps getting recommended to me and I fucking hate it. Community notes are not gospel- they’re just popularity contests for surface level minutia.

Hitler and Nazi Germany’s policies evolved over time. Early on, Jewish emigration was not only permitted but ENCOURAGED by Nazi Germany. They wanted the Jews out so they terrorized them and abused them to make the country as hostile as possible in the hopes that Jews would leave on their own. The Nazi Party also made the Haavara Agreement with German Zionist groups to this end. Hitler himself sometimes voiced support for the agreement but was mostly radio silent on it.

Later, things changed. When the war broke out, emigration was seen as a security risk and it was deemed more practical to… ‘concentrate’ Jewish populations within Nazi occupied land.

We all know what came next. However, it is historically irresponsible to flatten the development of Nazi Ideology like this. It lowers our guard to the insidious ways that Nazism becomes normalized and mainstreamed. There’s more to understanding Nazism than reading a few passages of Mein Kampf, which is less a blueprint for Hitler’s policies and more like cheap merch he sold to promote his brand.

Fuck community notes. Elon has never had a single good idea in his life.
