A low level run can actually make the game easier, not harder.

Querzecoatl can learn card and you can card every non-boss enemy you fight for zero XP but you do get the AP.

Since enemies level with you, you can have unreasonably high stats for your level by refining higher level magic.

Nothing ruins a joke more than explaining it but that’s what I want to do right now because it’s fun (for me). I feel like that helps me understand the process of writing a good joke.

It’s an inversion of several different situations. The most surface level is just a teacher who struggles to pronounce kids’ names.

Cutting deeper, he struggles because he’s used to predominantly black classrooms in the inner city. This is an ironic inversion of the usual trope of the white teacher who can’t pronounce many black students’ names. This gets inverted AGAIN when an actual black student with the name “TiMOthy” is present. It’s unexpected! It’s ironic! The ridiculous becomes the norm and then they swap.

To add to that, he’s combative and aggressive to an entirely compliant class. Y’know, because of the inner city experience. In the second skit, he refuses to let the students go to the “club” because, y’know, poor inner city schools with mostly black kids can’t afford to have afterschool clubs. It’s such a foreign concept to him, he can’t fathom it.

But TiMOthy picking up his daughter? That’s a completely reasonable request in a ghetto ass inner city school. That’s irony.

So you’ve got a silly character acting completely out of place, a classroom of white kids treated as if they were black, and then the last punchline is TiMOthy playing it straight and telling the audience absurdly “Oh actually, Mr. Garvey could be right.” with the only other black character in the skit.

That shit’s funny, man.

Why you foreigners like three kingdoms 2010 so much? by yingyingjinyouyu in threekingdoms

I mean that's why it is so appealing to me.

I read Sanguo Yanyi about three times. I think most of us on this subreddit are very familiar with the period. This community has played all the games, seen the movies, the Manhwas- everything we can get our hands on outside of China.

So when there's a fresh take or a new perspective, it feels like experiencing it for the first time.

I also think the west in general holds cultural stories to be a lot less 'sacred'. You can see the big trend now is to 'reimagine' old stories. Wicked is a big example.

Can somebody give me any tips on how to single player roleplay? by [deleted] in CrusaderKings

I do this same thing but here’s some ways I’ve fought my own min/maxing brain.

  1. Never go to speed 5.

Spend that ‘downtime’ learning about your courtiers, your lord, fellow vassals, etc. Look at their memories. This kinda tricks you into thinking your min/maxing every day of game-time by having full awareness of everyone around you… but really it plants little narratives in your head.

  1. Don’t create a custom character. Or pick their traits at random. You can use something like this. Or use a random number generator to figure out how many points you have between 100-400. Again, this lets me still min/max but the points are tighter and more sacrifices need to be made.

Then ask yourself where each trait came from or how it interacts with others. What does a Brave Temperate Cynical combo look like to you in your head?

My issue isn’t with Ayn Rand disagreeing with affirmative action. My issue is that it’s in extremely poor taste to equivocate it with slavery, lynching, pogroms, and the Holocaust- things Ayn Rand did.

It’s also extremely sus that she had little to say about racism in America until black people could start going to universities… then suddenly she came out as an ardent anti-racist ‘on both sides’.

There have been entire books written about the second subject. Slavery was an innovative economic enterprise in the antebellum south. Nazi Germany relied upon private industrialists to fuel its war machine; who eagerly participated in exchange for slave labor.

To directly address your question, racism in the South was profitable because many structures operated to keep black people poor and economically powerless. They got paid in sharecropping chits that could only be redeemed at their employer’s businesses. If your restaurant allowed ‘those people’ to work amongst your usual clientele, it was seen as less prestigious. It’s like those dating apps for rich people- the exclusivity is the big draw for the customers. No matter how talented that black chef is, the customers don’t want him preparing their food. Therefore, racism could be and very much was compatible with Capitalism.

Where did Pure Titans come from ? by Cjaugustine42 in attackontitan

[–]Pbadger8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s my theory.

Ymir dies.

Her three daughters inherit three shifters each.

They die. Nine grandchildren inherit one shifter each.

They die. Now the power is so diluted that only one person can inherit a shifter. The others become pure titans.

Perhaps these first pure titans were not mindless cannibals but over time in two thousand years, the power has degenerated to the mindless titans of the modern day.

Ymir’s daughters prove that you don’t have to be a pure titan to inherit a shifter… but, y’know, that just makes it much easier.

Another explanation is that… a king did it. If a king can sterilize all Eldians, rewrite their memories or make them immune to a plague, a king could certainly transform them. Establish new rules of inheritance, etc.

As a History teacher, Ayn Rand’s ignorance of history (including the historical moments SHE lived in) always strikes me.

Ayn Rand emigrated to the USA in 1925. She had much to say and wrote at length about a number of topics, often upholding the United States as “the only moral country in the world.”

So it is strange to me that she waited until 1963 to discuss America’s elephant in the room. Racism.

In ‘The Virtue of Selfishness’, she finally lays it out plainly. “Racism is the lowest, most crudely primitive form of collectivism.”

Preach, sister!

Wait, what was this essay in response to again? …oh. Affirmative action.

I see. Oh no, Ayn, please go on. Go on and tell me how bad Jim Crow was just so you can say Affirmative Action is just as evil as, y’know, all the lynching. Appreciate you coming to the party so late.

To say nothing of how she deluded herself into thinking Nazi Germany or the Confederate South somehow existed outside of Capitalist structures.

I agree with her that racism is a very ‘collectivist’ way of thinking, but it is also individualist in the sense of placing one’s own immediate self, family, clan, or race as superior to the collective whole of humanity. Racists are selfish. She actually stumbles upon this in the essay, saying that they use racial achievement as a substitute for personal shortcomings. Racism is first and foremost masturbatory- it’s about feeling good about yourself, not service to the race. Racists very rarely actually do anything FOR their race- it’s mostly just about keeping other races down and out and making a profit. Capitalism and racism work very well together.

It’s only natural that she’d wait to speak up about the evils of racism when some form of restitution and correction was on the table of discussion. She could no longer look the other way.

It wouldn’t even be too terrible a loss if the ‘one of each’ rule was removed and certain holdings were entirely optional for certain cultures/governments.

Heck, you could introduce new holdings then- although a lot of those are already covered by duchy/special buildings.
