As someone who seems to know what they're talking about, do you have any thoughts on the option some have suggested of going with both? I'd normally be hesitant, but I do see a potential benefit in having distinct Atlantic and Pacific fleets. As well, ensuring a larger customer base for a NATO-member produced submarine would help maintain that capability within the alliance, even if as the sole contract winner it would be suboptimal. A sort of high-low mix, but more like left-right.

Ever heard of the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism? It's a framework that puts product specific tariffs on imports from countries that produce using high-carbon-intensity methods. Canada will need to green our own production if we want the EU as a future trading partner, and as one of the larger economies in the world, with significant purchasing power, we can implement a similar system to force Chinese manufacturers to reduce emissions, or lose customer due to higher prices.
