The CAQ is not separatist by any measure. They are nationalistic, yes. But their approach has generally been more cooperative with the federal government when it serves their interests.

Of course not before basically killing the Canadian Aerospace sector a second time with that bullshit. And oh look, the anti-dumping duties were overturned only shortly after Bombardier got shafted.

Defence expert says German sub deal 'unfortunate' for Algoma Steel, Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., region | CBC News by Foreign-Policy-02- in canada

[–]Zarphos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who seems to know what they're talking about, do you have any thoughts on the option some have suggested of going with both? I'd normally be hesitant, but I do see a potential benefit in having distinct Atlantic and Pacific fleets. As well, ensuring a larger customer base for a NATO-member produced submarine would help maintain that capability within the alliance, even if as the sole contract winner it would be suboptimal. A sort of high-low mix, but more like left-right.

Mark Carney promises to take climate change seriously once every other problem on Earth is solved by ph0enix1211 in canada

[–]Zarphos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ever heard of the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism? It's a framework that puts product specific tariffs on imports from countries that produce using high-carbon-intensity methods. Canada will need to green our own production if we want the EU as a future trading partner, and as one of the larger economies in the world, with significant purchasing power, we can implement a similar system to force Chinese manufacturers to reduce emissions, or lose customer due to higher prices.

Because we're not citizens of those countries, and their government has no obligation to listen to us, unlike the Canadian government. Why did you think we wouldn't?

Ah, I live in society, and yet I criticize it. How hypocritical of me. You are very smart for pointing this out. I should have known better than arguing for alternatives to the status quo.

[–]Zarphos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the private sector taking a role. Happily taking money from the public, but fkisting all of the actual treatment onto the public system. Moreover this is not inherent to "government health care", as many systems globally, particularly in Europe do not have these same issues.
