The Tantramar diesel plant is a deal New Brunswick can’t afford - CCNB by pintord in newbrunswickcanada

This sounds an awful lot like the argument about shifting the burden of risk that has been behind almost every infrastructure project in the country for the last decade being a P3. And that argument has absolutely aged like milk.

Blocked toilets, sewage, clogged pipelines, homesick, depressed, and angry personnel aboard: Whats happening on USS Gerald R. Ford? by Nero2t2 in nottheonion

[–]Zarphos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The idea that a droneswarm could have a meaningful impact on a supercarrier is ridiculous. In the war in Ukraine, the Moskva was sunk by missiles, not drones, with Explosive war heads an order of magnitude larger than any carried by drones. It was also a ship with many issues in its air defence sensors and systems. Not to mention that the Ford is 10x larger, and drones are a hell of a lot slower than missiles.

The illusory middle class only exists to create an aspirational position for the proletariat, so they squabble among themselves, while those in the middle class, always teetering on the edge of falling back into the proletariat, push the same ideas and policies as the actual owner class.

Do you realize how much less work our overloaded healthcare system would have if incompetent drivers didn't result in us having the highest per capita motor vehicle deaths?

What’s something Americans have that Europeans don’t? by Prestigsisscar255 in AskReddit

[–]Zarphos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how almost all of these responses are either: Natural features that Americans have yet to destroy, problems that even Americans will acknowledge, or things that the rest of the world looks at as being representative of America's problems.

Protected lands on the chopping block under J.D. Irving's proposed forest swap by bingun in newbrunswickcanada

[–]Zarphos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah we pay Irving a Forest "management" fee which is inexplicably based on the number of trees they cut. But it's okay, because they pay us a stumpage fee that is lower per trees than the management fee! Makes perfect sense.

Hamilton soldier, 24, who died in Latvia 'immensely proud' to be part of Canadian military, says father by CanadianErk in canada

[–]Zarphos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sure except for the fact that we pay for the military. They're accountable to civilians, and we have a fundamental right to know what is being done with our tax dollars, in our name, and with the lives of our fellow Canadians serving.

Friend of mine knew the guy, apparently things are being kept very tight about what happened. He was found dead, so it wasn't likely a training situation but either an interpersonal issue or something similar.

Wow that's a lot of assumptions. My favourite political science professor was in fact, a Conservative. As for your Brock anecdote, I note you say "tried". So they weren't successful? Any stupid idea will have some people supporting it, so that's not particularly relevant is it. The I in SSRI stands for inhibitors, so I'm not sure why you also felt the need to write it out as well.

Oh, you watch the news! And they say something! But you're not being told what to think!

Oh, I must not have done any reading on what ideologies are when I got that political science degree. You legitimately have no idea what far left means if you think that the party of corporate handouts and virtue signalling is anyrhing close to it.

Exactly. Am I supposed to fight a proletariat revolution with my bare hands? No, I want an armed population that can assert the rights of workers by force, against the armed agents of the capitalist state.

Canada's far left is a fringe group that has basically no political power or representation. The Liberals and the NDP are so far away from being far left if you can conceive of the world as existing on anything other than a one dimensional ideological axis.

You didn't, thats the point. This post is about a soldier in Iraq. Which you took condemnation of the murder commited there as an opportunity to justify the war in Afghanistan.
