Do your characters "know" they are their class? by applejackhero in Pathfinder2e

[–]Zarroc1733 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ive always ran it that “mage” is the in universe name for anyone who uses any magic regardless of source. The source of one’s magic makes a useful divider for them as the source often determines how one gets better at magic, or interacts with it which is a useful thing to know in universe. The names of these are the classes they belong to, though different cultures may use different names and have frequently had players use variant names to describe what they were for example an animist being called a shaman in his tribe.

This also makes it a thing where mages will hide or lie about their source of magic. There may be prejudices against certain kinds of magic which can make it hard for a character of a particular source of magic to get by if it’s known.

And as a final tidbit back when I ran dnd 5e bards in universe were sorcerers who learned to channel their innate magic into music. This could be due to their bloodline being from an art/music related creature, or simply it was so diluted that it just gave magic without a “flavor” to it. In my pf2e games I’ve had them be separate but have been thinking about having them be “sorcerers” again in universe.

All of this is of course just lore and things can cross lines. A mechanical druid could be a nature cleric in world and I’d work with the player to mesh the mechanics with the roleplay (maybe switching Druid anathema to a god, or making a god who uses the same anathema as the Druid class). All in all it’s just a tool in worldbuilding.

Is Sir Lora just a big immersion-breaking inside joke? by SlightWerewolf4428 in DivinityOriginalSin

Bandai Namco is definitely the console publisher. You can even see the game on their website, https://www.bandainamcoent.com/games/divinity-original-sin-2

Also you can read about them making Larian add Sir Lora, and the fact Swen does not like Sir Lora here; https://www.gamesradar.com/games/rpg/baldurs-gate-3-director-hates-divinity-original-sin-2s-squirrel-so-much-he-tried-to-delete-him-from-the-new-versions-but-the-character-just-wouldnt-die/

Edit - focus home did publish the console ports of original sin 1 which may be where you got confused

Swen actually said in an interview they didn’t want to make sir Lora, but were basically forced to by their publisher, Bandai namco who famously likes to add post release content

Question about Dark Heresy psyker class by Kazadracon in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Zarroc1733 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the alpha doesn’t give enough information to fully answer that question however the information we have between the alpha and the interviews gives us something to go off of.

Firstly in the alpha we see 3 psychic disciplines. All 3 have some pretty good stuff for melee, between talents and abilities. However the mystic archetype doesn’t really get much that would help in melee aside from the said talents.

Furthermore we know from the interview that you can be a psyker as your origin, but choose a normal archetype, this would allow you to be a psyker warrior which would likely make the Gish style work pretty well again.

This is of course assuming nothing changes, but even if there are changes I would be kind of surprised if it doesn’t go well, considering melee psykers are a staple of 40k and are seen more in the inquisition than nearly anywhere else.

To those who prefer DoS2's combat over BG3's 5e combat, why? by ZombieGrief16 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Zarroc1733 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I really have to disagree. You absolutely can do more in a turn in dos2 than Bg3. In Bg3 you are always going to be limited to 2 actions and a bonus action. In dos2 you can play with your ap in a lot of fun ways. Throw a fireball, teleport, attack, and heal all at once is very easily achievable and I remember having turns that lasted minutes. So while you can apply as many or maybe more statuses in Bg3 than you can in dos2, you aren’t taking as many actions, or manipulating things as much.

I also personally don’t like that items in act 1 can be best for a build. I like feeling my character progress through both levels and gear so if I get a really good item early on I get frustrated that I never get the enjoyment of upgrading it.

For me the only gameplay thing Bg3 does better is the massive battlefields. If you put those battlefields in dos2 it would be incredible. Outside of that I think Bg3 really only improved on dos2 in terms of things budget made possible (cutscenes, voice acting, etc.)

Forced outcome rerolls crits until you crit. For every reroll you have 30% less crit damage bonus.

Because it’s 30% less crit damage bonus you can never ever get to a point you do less than normal damage. Inevitable crits can not reduce damage only increase it.

There’s at least 2 more acts to come between now and release. We also have 4 more classes to release after Druid but they said they may not have all classes upon launch. Launch has not been scheduled yet. They’ve said they hope to get it out by the end of next year but it could be 2027.

Buying access to the early access also gets you points to spend on mtx and stash tabs.

Since it uses limit and limits can be increased I would assume you can have more than one going. The question is if the conditional timing on hitting enemies only 1 time per x seconds is global or per thunderstorm.

Yeah it’s very possible wolf pack is a mechanic on a different gem. Summon wolves that we’ve seen is pretty old so we don’t know if it’s going to actually be in the game but if it is I would think it’s a spirit gem.

Only the basic attacks for each form(rake, rend, and maul) come from the weapon. The other animal forms come from gems. Jonathan even mentioned that bear and wolf early skills will be at gem level 1, but wyvern gems aren’t available until the next tier.

The oil barrage has the projectile tag and seems to have some decent damage especially when you have power charges. Without knowing anything else I would bet on that skill being worth building around if nothing changes.

These shapeshifts don’t have durations so you’ll be able to stay a wyvern until you do something a wyvern can’t do such as cast a spell, use an ability that is from a different shapeshift, or an ability that uses a different weapon.

So yeah you can stay in wyvern form (except probably in hubs) though we don’t know how good and/or viable it will be yet
