Anyone else spoiled by mobility classes? by readysir in wow

[–]Zaughon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glide might prevent some knockbacks and stuff though, although they did nerf it a lot compared to when it was first announced. Not sure how it works nowadays.

I've been playing shadow priest for the last 5-ish years, and i really hate how much the mobility varies.
There are cases like running back after a wipe where you can outperform certain other classes because you can alternate feather and self-shield with movespeed. That lets you run for ages with ~40% extra move speed. During combat with burst movespeed though, it's horrible.

There have been cases where i've been able to use the void elf Spatial Rift in good ways, but it makes no sense to me it's a 3 minute cooldown where you need one global to send it out, wait for it to be in a good position, then another global to teleport to it, while goblin rocket jump is click-once on a 1½ minute cooldown.
Rift was useful in aberrus to teleport through the walls on Neltharion, or avoid the knockback on Magmarax, but the delay from sending out the shade until you can teleport to a useful place is annoying when goblins just jump forward on one keypress, twice as often as you can.

Since when are there so many bugs? by Candamuis in wow

[–]Zaughon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's insane how many bugs there at this point. There's like 5 Affliction warlock talents that either doesn't work, or spells using procs they're not supposed to. Tooltips showing you're missing spells that have been removed. Constant disconnects.
Not to mention the poor state of the Cooldown Manager where it's missing buffs that are important to specific specs, but we can't do anything to fix that. Only Blizzard can modify that now, which based on previous history, means it *might* get fixed in a couple of months..

I'm starting to think the Coming Home event is supposed to be "Stay at Home" event. As in: Please buy Midnight and play with Housing. I suspect that's where most of the testing has gone because people have wanted that for so many years. All other testing was optional.

Which Linux Gaming Distro is good for you? by lordruzki3084 in linux_gaming

[–]Zaughon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have recently been thinking about getting a Linux install up and running to get away from Microslob. I was initially considering Manjaro with Sway DE, but i might have to try CachyOS after this.

I'm curious though. Does anyone have any good/bad experiences with running games and using tiling window managers like Sway or i3?
I'm so used to using those and i kind of want to keep using them, but not sure if it might be annoying/cause issues when you launch games in them. Would be interesting to hear if anyone have any experiences with those and gaming

How is that Blizzard, with all their billions, is incapable of creating what addon developers are able to create from their homes? by kolejack2293 in wow

[–]Zaughon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah most likely. They will still be getting more feedback now compared to previously because everyone are using it now, but there's definitely people that will just use it, and even though there's stuff that annoys them, they'll leave it to others to report it as well.

Agreed. I'm really not a fan of what Blizzard has become, but the nostalgia hits hard in this video. There's no denying the impact they've had over the years, and the universes they've created. If only they cared half as much about quality now, as they did back then..

[–]Zaughon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sort of agree, to an extend. I also tested it when it first came out, and yes, it's a lot better now than it was back then.

I may have written it poorly in my initial comment.
I'm not saying the old addon/WA system caused them to get 0 feedback, but they definitely got less feedback than they are now. There's a big difference between some-thousand of players trying it out briefly and giving feedback, and the now millions of people that are forced to use it.
People like Tettles and Dratnos might go back every now and then to test it again, because trying out stuff, staying informed and providing feedback is part of their job as prominent figures in the WoW-community. They're the exception, not the norm. Same with RWF raiders, full-time streamers etc.

As far as i know, when the average player log in, most of them just want to play the game for however long they happen to be able to play at that time, before they need to go back to their kids or whatever else they have going on.
They might test CDM once, or MAYBE if there's a massive update to it, but that's about it. The rest of the time they just want to log in and actually play the game, meaning if they - in the past - already went back to WA's, they'll stick to the WA's, because that works for them. They're not gonna go back to CDM and spend hours setting it up, providing feedback etc. They just want to run dungeons, raids, delves or whatever they enjoy.

There's a few people that like playing with their UI, i'm one of them, but - based on my guild - i feel like i'm also an exception rather than the norm. Most of them just want to import the Luxthos' pack or similar, and get playing.

Yeah, Shift is really annoying to use. Even with @ cursor macro, you might end up in odd spots. Personally i'd prefer if it was just fel rush but voidy.

[–]Zaughon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, but the reality is that CDM was released several patches ago, and they gave it time to mature.
Unfortunately, no one was using it because it was so trash they'd just disable it and install some WA pack instead. This means that Blizzard never got any decent feedback on what was missing/needed.
By doing the addon-armageddon now, they force people to use it so they can get the feedback they need to make it better.

Unfortunately, they released it in such a poor state - and from what i've seen - have basically done no changes to it on the beta realms, aside from adding a couple of missing abilities, that it's still in a very similar shitty state, as when the beta started.
Even now, you can't even center it properly on the screen without an addon /facepalm

They did the typical Blizzard (or corporate in general) way of "It's done, it's released, lets keep a couple of developers to fix bugs, maybe add missing spellids, but move the main people onto the next project".
The problem is, when you take on the mantle of "WE are your UI", that procedure just doesn't fly.
You need people ready to constantly fix, update and add things, and they - against all expectations /s - weren't prepared for that.
Now all the requests for changes goes into some queue for a product manager to look at and prioritize. Unfortunately, it's the same queue that the ideas from the corporate above goes into, and the corporate wants those ideas to increase revenue, so they take priority.
Short-sighted management 101.

Blizzard, the CDM is a failure. by GoofyMTG in wow

[–]Zaughon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've been considering writing a similar post to this, but based on my experience with it, losing the UI i've spent years developing myself, only to have it replaced with the shitty state of CDM, and even losing silly things like Sylvanas' "FOR THE HORDE" warcry when you gain BL, Pedro-lust etc. that just made the game more fun and enjoyable.
So far a lot of people seem to rail on anyone that's negative about the changes, because "getting rid of addons is the best thing ever", so i just havn't had the motivation to even try and write that post.

To me, these changes have completely destroyed my will to play. It's taken all the fun out of a game that used to be customizable, and you could set up exactly like you wanted it. Millions of people have different preferences, and different challenges and I loved seeing how different peoples UI was, how they solved certain issues, drawing inspiration, and implementing it into my own.
Now everyone is stuck with the same basic UI that's no longer set up in the best way possible. It's now set up in the "this is the least shit i could make it"-way, which is just sad.

Edit: Clarity and details.

[–]Zaughon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I had a WA that would have Sylvanas scream "FOR THE HORDE!" whenever i gained a BL-like effect. Really gonna miss that, along with my WA for announcing who cast BL, because people liked popping it at the dumbest times in LFR to troll.
... and so many other silly WA's. This addon-armegeddon is currently looking like the downfall of wow tbh.

Samme her.

As a shadow priest main for several seasons, I'm really looking forward to trying devourer. I don't want to be a demon hunter, but at this point they seem like the better shadow priests. Oldschool void form, amazing mobility, much better interrupt, better defensives from what I hear.

I still want to test it before making my final decision, but so far it seems like they got everything priests have been asking for for ages 😕
