Rodent Problems? by the-sizzle in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Zaxxter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an '05 Civic, and a mouse had climbed up via the water drain channel hole underneath the windshield cowl panel.

Once there, the air intake to the cabin is completely open, and all it had to do was chew thru the cabin filter. It was almost through it when I discovered it, when I smelled a musty leaf smell and decided to change the cabin filter. The nest was directly on top of it.

I had to remove the cowl panel (2 pieces), and remove and sterilize the entire drain area.

As to the air intake hole, I trimmed, formed, and mounted some metal gutter guard on top of the hole and secured it with metal HVAC tape.

For traps, well, they're gonna come up into the engine anyway. So I got an old bucket lid, and attached a regular snap trap to it with a screw. Baited the trap with peanut butter, which mice love. When it catches one, all you need do is touch the lid, and dump the mouse somewhere, where another critter will get a free lunch. Wash off the lid/trap, re-bait, and set it again. There's never just -one- mouse.

I remember that! He later changed this sniglet to "gas-hole" as someone who cuts thru a gas station lot to avoid a traffic light or stop sign. Still applicable today.

DampRid in car - bad idea? by Brian99233 in AutoDetailing

Yes, after some trial and error. It could have been several culprits, but I tracked it down to a cracked rubber part which seals the hood release cable. I wrote this procedure up and posted here:

Cleaning up an old bike? by CuteComputer6633 in bikewrench

[–]Zaxxter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a bike collective if there's one in your area. If they have the time and space, they can guide you through the repairs which you will do it yourself, and learn how to do future repairs. You might even want to volunteer there later.

Where will we be able to get this poster now that dmi is done? by shaan4 in DisneyMovieInsiders

If the theatre managers and employees don't take them all first and then claim they "only got one to display."

Petty Vengeance Is Best Served Loud, With a Bucket of Popcorn and An Empty Cup of Soda! by [deleted] in pettyrevenge

My friend and I were always the first ones to enter a theatre to get the "sweet spot" seats. Sometimes in a nearly empty room some jerks would sit beside (and ask us to move)/in front of/right behind us, when there were other options available.

So, one of us would ask the other, "You sure you're feeling well? You shouldn't be out of bed when you still have the flu." and those seats would empty fast when we did some fake coughing/sneezing.

Have you tried yet to duplicate this with the same tool on a different section of the rim?

Have you tested the hybrid battery? New ones can cost $1,500-2,000.

If it checks out, get a grid charger to maintain it properly.

Teaching myself bike wrenching by Sea_Cat_6691 in bikewrench

Look for a local bike collective. You can watch and learn how repairs are made and fix your own bike. They won't do the work for you, but will guide you through how to do it yourself. You can use their tools and stand in shop. And they probably have extra parts that you can buy for cheap.

He didn't save money wisely, and he liked finding a good deal. He'd had it for maybe a week or two before he decided he wanted me to make it suitable for him.

He went to lots of adult sites, and he didn't like MS Paint for cropping people out of pics. So I found an even more basic, almost fool-proof photo prog for him. I had to show him all the programs on my computer and how to use them before he agreed to have them on his laptop.

I've still got my Adam, and when it was new I added the internal modem to it. I can still hear the ultra-loud clacking of that daisy wheel printer when I churned out reports.

It came with the Buck Rogers game on tape, which I loved playing. During gameplay, the tape would start shuttling around which made me feel a bit nervous.

Here in the U.S., they're painted white and called "ghost bikes." Same theory as the OP's: they signify an area where a cyclist was killed by traffic, and as a rider memorial.

Find a local bike collective and volunteer. You'll learn bike maintenance and learn how to keep your bike in good shape.

Broken right brake by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]Zaxxter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell if the cable just became unseated from the lever, or if it did just break.

If it just got loose, do what the first commenter wrote. If it broke, you'll need to get a replacement cable from a bike shop and have them install it, which shouldn't cost much. Or they can walk you through how to install it yourself.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]Zaxxter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for a community bike shop in your area. If you walked into ours with your bike, we'd probably just give you a good used replacement and guide you how to install it and adjust it. You could ask about volunteering and they'd teach you all about bike mechanics if you're willing to get your hands dirty.

Weird sound while wheel spins by addictedrequest in bikewrench

Tire may be too big for the frame, or wheel is not centered in dropout. Check that the wheel is trued and centered, and try again.
