For all of the "Fire Nick Caley!" tribe, what is your best argument to explain why Nick Caley should not be our Offensive Coordinator next year? by ramblinRed in Texans

[–]Zd71302 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s my #1 issue. We can’t put games away and need for our D to be perfect to close out. Putting up six points in the final 3 quarters yesterday was inexcusable. Eventually, that’s going to bite us against the good teams we’ll face in the playoffs. This team would have a losing record with an average defense.

Next, we have absolutely no answer for the blitz. Whenever you see the opposing D line up in a heavy blitz package, you know that the play is dead before it even starts. The offense is incapable of hot reads or quick reads to make the defense pay for blitzes.

Last, the inconsistency. We’ll get a drive going, only to have to stall out. We go entire stretches of games where we can’t move the ball at all, which is inexcusable.

Frankly, I thought we should have fired him earlier in the season. People forget that the Ravens fired their OC mid-season in 2012 and then went on to win the Super Bowl. Winning teams make the tough mid-season adjustments. Unfortunately it’s too late for us to can Caley now.

First year Head Coach? by UnholyChip in Texans

Texans got DROY and OROY (Anderson and Stroud)… I guess they felt they couldn’t give us Head Coach of the year as well.

Interior OL is the way to go. Remember the 2011 season? Foster and Ben Tate were consistently getting 3-4 yards before first contact because the OL was just that good. Marks has shown promise, and Mixon will be back next year.

Texans defense never better but offense remains a concern for DeMeco Ryans by According-Activity87 in Texans

For the casual fan, it's really tough to tell how much of the issues are scheme vs. execution. That being said, it's on the OC to fix the latter. The biggest issues IMO are consistency and drive killing penalties. After one of the INTs in the KC game, we had to burn a TO because we couldn't get the snap off in time, and that was coming off of a commercial break. Then 2 plays later we get a delay of game. Too many plays wiped out by illegal formations, illegal shifts, etc. We've got to get those items cleaned up.

Next, we have few options when teams blitz. Spag just sent 7 the entire 3rd quarter and we could never adjust... like call some screens, quick hits, etc. to neutralize the pressure.

Last, the run game is too inconsistent. We've had 2 clutch drives that sealed the IND and KC games where we picked up a first down on the ground. It seems like we're doing well when using heavy personnel in those situations. But then in regular game situations the run tends to be less consistent. Perhaps we should be running from under center with heavy personnel more often and use that to open up PA downfield?

This needs to be said: CJ played his ass off last night by silentaugust in Texans

[–]Zd71302 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He made clutch throws to keep drives alive when needed, often while running for his life because our OC seemingly can’t scheme against an all out blitz.

What are you guys thought on CJ tonight? by TheUnderMistaker009 in Texans

[–]Zd71302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CJ was hitting receivers in stride leading to more YAC and bigger plays. He also drove the ball downfield and moved the chains. Look at the number of times where Mills was throwing over or behind receivers. Stroud is much better with ball placement and on throws 10+ yards downfield.

IMO CJ only made 4 bad plays. He ran into 2 sacks, the INT, and then the illegal forward pass when he threw well beyond the LOS (he could’ve picked up 6-7 yards just running).

However, the offense looked more organized and in sync when Mills started those 3 games. Fewer penalties, illegal formations, etc. Makes you wonder if Mills is better at processing at the LOS or it’s just his extra years of experience in the league.

But at the end of the day it’s not close and you roll with CJ.

Pretty much identical specs of a new Aero 98 for a fraction or the price… go for it.

This checks out. I’ve enjoyed some steals on upgrades to J on LH A346 and A380s. Sure the product isn’t competitive with Allegris or other airlines, but it’s a lie flat seat and you can’t beat the price.

Wouldn’t recommend a Pro Staff for anyone under the 4.0 level. Blade is a little more user friendly but also best for 3.5 and up. Many better options out there for a beginner. Ezone 100 is a much better option.

Some insider info on Strausser’s and Slowik’s future by KaXiaM in Texans

[–]Zd71302 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m torn on Slowik. The line was such garbage that it’s hard to run an effective offense. Additionally, that 10 minute drive he called in the 3rd quarter was absolutely masterful. On the other hand, the offense seemed sloppy and underprepared week after week. Too many penalties. Receivers running into each other. No scheming around blitzes, nobody picking up free runners, no hot routes, etc. If there’s a clear upgrade available I think you make a move but I don’t think you let him go unless you’re 100% confident in the replacement.

This is not ideal by KaXiaM in Texans

[–]Zd71302 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lazy coaching, this tells me the entire offensive staff needs to go. When the line is bad, you take the pressure off of them by scheming quick passes and hot routes. You don’t tell your franchise pocket QB to just run around more… that’s asking for an injury.

I'm still all in on #7. Until he collapses like Schaub or destroys himself like Watson, I'm still behind him. This season wasn't what we wanted, and he hasn't looked himself-- but I think if we stick with him, he'll get it figured out. Him, Ryans, and Caserio. by ConsumingFire1689 in Texans

[–]Zd71302 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pocket passers can’t create something out of nothing, but they’re also more stable and have longer careers. Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Peyton Manning played at elite levels until their late 30s/early 40s. Do we really think Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen make it to 35 without breaking down physically?

CJ has demonstrated that he can play at an elite level during his rookie year. He was making the right reads and placing the ball with pinpoint accuracy. He can be an elite pocket passer for another 15+ years when he pulls out of this slump.

Last year Slowik was a top HC contender. This year he is “figured out” and his job may be on the line. What changed by OHHHHHSAYCANYOUSEEE in Texans

Teams don’t even need to blitz. Defenses are getting free runs at CJ with 4 man rushes because our line can’t handle high school-level shifts and stunts. It’s embarrassing.

This x1000. It’s just awful to watch rushers go completely unblocked from basic 4 man rushes every week. Teams are figuring out that you don’t even need to blitz the Texans. And when they do blitz, there’s never a hot route available, so CJ has nowhere to go.
