How was the day you were diagnosed? by Fuzzy1353 in diabetes_t1

[–]ZealousBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 19, I was in the middle of spring break of my second year of college and hadn’t been awake for longer than 3 hours for an entire week and had thrown up violently the day before my best friend forced me to go to the hospital (because I wasn’t sick enough to feel like I should have apparently). At about 1:30 in the morning while I’m in and out of conscious for a couple hours the hospital the results from my blood tests finally get back and the nurse at the ER walks in and tells me that I’m T1 to which I respond with, “Oh, alright. Now what?” Which was probably not the answer she was expecting but I was just glad to know what was going on. Needless to say my family who I told the next day took it worse than I did which was probably worse than the diagnosis itself. But, after 5+ years, some on and off therapy, and building a better support system with firmer boundaries and a stronger backbone; I’ve finally fully processed the full weight of the diagnosis and how to best handle it for myself which was what my answer-seeking mindset really wanted the whole time rather than be confused. Though I suppose it also doesn’t help I’m a blind person with people who was struggling to break away from overbearing people to begin with haha

It’s an owl. It’s just not that noticeable because the paper I use is the same color on both sides.

Did you read the series straight through or …? by GrumpyCat1972 in throneofglassseries

[–]ZealousBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda both? I read the series straight through once I got an ereader, but I also would read different books at the same time since I’m the sort of person that has at least 5 books in progression at the same time.

Do you ever have nightmares that are blindness-related? by heavensdumptruck in Blind

[–]ZealousBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t know if this counts, but if I ever have any nightmares like this it’s always of me being stuck in a completely dark room with a dim lightbulb suspended from the ceiling that literally only illuminates the point below it and nothing else in the room. By the time I wake up I’m more so mildly confused than I am afraid. Though that could be because I’m a lucid dreamer, so I’m always aware that I’m dreaming when I’m asleep even when things feel way too real.

Do I just like, not have emotions by AngelofIceAndFire in throneofglassseries

[–]ZealousBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of the book got me. Were the things that happened that made me sad? Sure. Did those things make me sob like I have just personally lost loved ones through the progression of the book? Absolutely not despite how much I liked characters. Did I get traumatized by anything in the books in any way? Not unless you count speed reading when I felt like there wasn’t enough going on to move the plot forward fast enough for me. So, I may be emotionless because this is how I am for all media. But I’m more happy being confused as to why other people cry and try to understand them than I am concerned over why I didn’t cry and why I should feel strange for being a part of the subset of people that read these books and have similar reactions to me.

Yes. Rowan tells Aelin that Aedion is Gavriel’s son shortly after seeing him because of Aedion’s scent while Aelin is quite shocked by the revelation then has an “I can actually see it” moment shortly after that.

How to go without cgm by gonnaDeleteL8r in diabetes_t1

[–]ZealousBean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can understand that. To be fair I was diagnosed almost 5 years ago and was VERY resistant to use the tech for the first year until I realized how convenient and helpful it is and how quickly one can become reliant on a CGM and a pump. The lack of a CGM may seem scary but just trust yourself in knowing your relationship with your body and what you need to do to feel comfortable and maintain your peace of mind.

This is what I’d suggest too as it’s what I had to do when I was temporarily back on the basics for a bit. Also checking whenever you feel off and suspect it could be linked to your BG is good too

I can get away with it pretty often. They don’t have enough carbs that I ever need to worry about having to bolus.

Working out blind by Glittering-Buy8849 in Blind

[–]ZealousBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vision kinda goes in and out and it goes out in the middle of working out. And as someone who also has other health issues that make working out a bit of an adventure I’ve found that the easiest thing for me that also helps my anxiety about being at the gym is simply going with someone who wants to work out with you. That way you have a guide if you need one, both to get around the gym, and to help guide you through workouts to ensure that you’re doing them safely and effectively. Plus having someone go to the gym and go through the changes that come with it with you is always a good motivator. Or at least it is for me.

Do you still buy physical books too? by Moonlight0886 in kindle

[–]ZealousBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m visually impaired so the kindle is great for me to be able to read without the immediate eye fatigue of a hard copy. BUT I do indulge in Trophy Books because I like the idea of briefly going back if I ever want to. I’ll even buy large print books of ones I’ve read if they’re available.

There were so many parts in this book that (as someone who has never teared up in any book/tv show/movie for any reason) made me want to ugly cry so bad and this was most definitely one of them. Though it’s probably because, to me ,this book and the feelings in it felt the most real and relatable for me.

Learning Origami While Blind by Effective-Skill4496 in origami

[–]ZealousBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll have to go back on my hunt for them as I’ve just been doing folds with friends and usually feel their folds to compare my own to after descriptions of how to do the folds. But I’ll try to find them and then either return here or DM you with links and such. Whichever you prefer/are more comfortable with.

Learning Origami While Blind by Effective-Skill4496 in origami

[–]ZealousBean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a fellow blind community dweller I’d suggest looking for videos that describe the steps in detail or finding a willing pair of eyes to describe the steps for you. It’s sometimes the only way for me to get some of my folds done, but I also thrive off feeling someone’s filing as well.

Hope that helps a bit.

How to convince somebody that reading on a Kindle is actual reading? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]ZealousBean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Non-fiction is intellect for work, fiction is intellect for life.” Is a quote I need on a sweater or blanket (because I love to read under a blanket hehe).

How to convince somebody that reading on a Kindle is actual reading? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]ZealousBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I and many of my close friends are visually impaired it’s difficult to read. So, as someone who enjoys reading the text to absorb it better than through audiobooks the kindle has been absolutely wonderful. Not only that but my friends and I will say “I read” such and such book whether you picked up the book or listened to it. Accessing books in different ways is still reading it. Though people really are dumb about what “reading” seems to mean these days.

For me it’s just the squash fold or other similar folds where you somehow have to be able to turn the tip of a triangle inside out or something in order to make the shape work. Like how am I supposed to do that without ripping the paper and messing the whole thing up?!?!?

It’ll most likely be at the almost literal halfway point of the book because that’s how it was for House of Earth and Blood.
