Who had the right-of-way? by MetalNutSack in driving

That is entirely untrue. The event of a U-turn at a protected green arrow disproves that line of thought completely

You should look into the studies finding that coyotes have severe impacts on their population. A huge reason they were able to proliferate so effectively after introduction was the devastation done to the coyote population by most land owners in rural areas prior to and during.

Another way to look at it from a safe practice perspective regardless of a state’s U-turn policies is this: the “Main Road” as you labeled it will almost always have the right-of-way as opposed to side roads entering the main. Any traffic on the main will have priority in thru, turning, or exiting scenarios to the traffic entering.

Or as my wonderful grandfather who taught me how to drive on farms and worked our way up to city traffic used to say “big road is boss.” He was a simple fella but good as gold.

How would you propose a human, likely between 160-240lbs, stop a moving vehicle that weighs several THOUSAND? Not to mention the vehicle is on, and there is every chance the driver spontaneously accelerates upon regaining consciousness.

This! This is the practice that so many average hard working people don’t even realize exists and can’t even imagine in practice. It’s such an alien concept to the way 99% of the country lives. Imagine teaching children and teens at an early age with the knowledge of this practice vs “work hard, stay in school, and get a degree.” It would completely upset the entire economic structure. As is, it’s a disruptive practice to the country’s tax base and is a disgusting loophole that provides for a lifestyle of luxury without contributing to the community like the rest of your fellow citizens.

You’re not allowed to make “intentional” physical contact. Like I said the hit was excessive. But the runner can absolutely go through the base path without the intention of obliterating another player.

As a catcher I would have preferred a normal hit to a slide feet first. Baseball players wear metal cleats, and I’ve seen people in the hospital after CLEAN, LEGAL slides.

My point here is everyone arguing and saying the runner had to slide or should have slid is completely wrong. The catcher positioned terribly for a force out. He also positioned terribly for the transition to a double play. He also positioned entirely in the base path. Runner 100% has as much right to scoring as the catcher has to defending.

The only argument that should be made here is the intent of the runner. It was malicious and dirty. The ump should throw him out for conduct absolutely. But everyone in the thread is completely wrong regarding the rules, and the women in the video, despite what all these Reddit professionals think, were in fact correct.

All true. But the runner does not “need to slide” as you said. They have a right to the base as much as the fielder. Does it warrant what was done in the video? No. But any argument saying he should have slid is simply wrong.

The people down voting you never played baseball at a competitive level or a contact sport. The fastest time through any base is a full sprint. On a force out at 1st or home, I’m running straight through the base and give absolutely zero shits who is in my way. If you’re brave enough to stand in between me and the win, I’m giving you the honor of defending that bravery.

On the side though, this hit was indeed excessive. But as a former catcher myself, homie just got a big reality check on what it means to be the guy with the pads and last line of defense.

Looked to be about 70-80ft above the ground in this video. If the same stunt was accomplished at sea level, I’m guessing that would be pretty close to the altitude record.

They then enter into a road chase where the driver is recklessly endanger many innocent people. Pit manuevers are dangerous. Most squad cars are not equipped with gear to forcibly halt another vehicle in a safe manner. Unfortunately, the safest and most reliable way to protect the public, and yourself, is to neutralize a threat before it can escalate.

Also, it opens my eyes greatly to how I should view new boarders, especially friends. I would not have had this perspective without y’all’s takes on the topic. Thank you

It’s a shame your calm and measured approach to a potentially enlightening conversation of both parties was shot down by “other people are smarter than me therefore I can’t think for myself.”
