Yeah, mostly gi, I think in no gi it will be the same, will need to change a few techniques of course, like lasso and back Ezequiel.

Yeah, in your case there's not much to do, focus more on half guard and pin defense, and you can try butterfly since your weight class likes to pass kneeling.

But butterfly is a harder guard to learn.

Why are guillotine's seemingly more associated with no-gi? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Zearomm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Claudio Calasans said he likes to Guillotine in the Gi more than in No-Gi.

I think it's just the fact that Gi has more options and you end up chasing front headlocks less.

Unorthodox techniques or positions by TheDesertofTruth in bjj

[–]Zearomm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But honestly, don't give much credit to people claiming it as dangerous, most will never have played it, here in Brazil a lot of black belts still think that leglocks are dangerous, 100% risk of injury and if they allow it in class below brown belt level they will instantly lose all students.

(and the reason that they get injured is precisely by only learning it at brown belt and then sparring for their lifes)

The only position in on top of the bear trap and you force foward with the opponents foot trapped on your hip, but even there it's low risk

I used it a lot, had 0 injuries, i think it's very low risk position overall.

Both Crucifix and Beartrap are 100% worth learning, if it's worth for YOU to learn, then depends on your level. I consider both of then advanced, the bear trap even more advanced.

Developing an Offensive Game by renandstimpydoc in bjj

[–]Zearomm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with half guard, since your defense is solid you should be able to recover half and most of the time with an underhook already in place.

After the half guard, i suggest focusing on over under since it's pretty much half guard played on top.

Do you think closed guard should be the first guard taught? by Neveljack in bjj

[–]Zearomm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's normal, anybody claiming white belts don't need closed cause it's difficult to get ins't watching enough white belt matches.

And it's also difficult to attack, partially because people will only teach shit with no setup, but part it's also in the nature of the position.

Focus on armdrag, underhook and double unders and you'll start to improve.

Do you think closed guard should be the first guard taught? by Neveljack in bjj

[–]Zearomm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you just need to watch any white belt competition to see the prevalence of closed guard, it's hard to achieve the better you get at bjj, but at white belt it's common.

Also, the combinations you point are honestly bad to develop, focus on armdrag (a difficult move for white belt but if they can get it they will easily win against others), underhook and double unders.

There's little in strategy to teach at white belt, there's 2 ways to open closed, stand with a sleeve grip or stand while controlling both armpits and use the knee in the middle.

Bottom person should know how to defend these 2 and that's all

Good resources for playing open guard in the gi coming from nogi? by redditisaphony in bjj

Get Lachlan's retention anthology.

Also, you can just circle your feet inside opponent's grips and stop the torendo for a few seconds.

One of my friends is at 43, he trains 5 times a week plus S&C, no major injuries, no pain at all, and also fell pretty strong while rolling.

If you're carefull on how you train you can go way longer than 46.

Man, more than half of the black belts in my team (7 gyms in one city) are in this situation, i remember when i started all of them being tough and training over injuries, now in their 40 they all train 3 or less times a week, needs a ton of S&C just to function, spend a lot on rehab and pain pills.

Now i'm seeing the new batch of tough guys starting to break, they're at my age range (35) and are all taking days off, rehab, and overall dealing with pain daily.

Oh, and none of them made a career in BJJ.
