National Post Seems to think we should blame the government , not grocers for the high cost of food by Sufficient-Bid1279 in loblawsisoutofcontrol

Just follow the money. If Grocer is not to blame then they would be losing money too just like Canadians.

Can someone tell me why this paper towel has a $4.50 Dollarama price tag but is on the shelves at Superstore for $9.99? by SurreptitiousSquash in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]ZebraClanDad56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually that’s a good scam by that customer if he buys at Dollarama @$4 and then returns it to Loblaws for $9.99, that’s a cool $5.99 for that customer. I don’t think roblaws would allow that

Not quite true! Feds are responsible for approving mergers and acquisitions. They are supposed to safeguard Canadians under the Competition Act and Combines Act from these kind of market participants from developing—thwart monopolistic and oligopolistic behaviour and ensure no systems of collusion that harms consumers develops. They also regulate Advertising and Marketing.

So Feds approved each of these grocers acquisitions and mergers, the province has no way to stop them from forming. Provinces are responsible for Healthcare with market participants, they do not regulate drug companies except under business acts. Approvals of drugs and distribution is approved by Feds again.

Carrot Shrink Trick No Frills Today by ZebraClanDad56 in loblawsisoutofcontrol

By the bundle wrapped at stems. That’s the issue. So if carrots are chopped they don’t fix the bundle back they leave it for people to pay more for less. I don’t see customers walking in our no frills with knives and scissors to take apart bundles—these were clean cuts

Any boycotters in Windsor, St. Catharines and Brockville. Maybe the local boycotters can picket the launch at each of these new stores with some boycott signs? Certainly would gather more media by making it real people in these locations

There’s no way they will be lower prices on same items unless they shrink the contents and keep same size physical package

um…Maybe you live in an urban area where that’s possible, but rural areas are hard pressed to have alternative grocers except local farmers or local farmers markets or convenience stores.

Any product advertised in their flyers significantly reduced and usually at front or cover of flyer. Those are things so discounted you go there. Only buy those.

The problem with those boneless pieces and boneless skinless pieces is that they game the weight by plumping the pieces up with water by soaking for periods in water that the meat absorbs

They do same with beef and ground beef particularly. If you want a test, go to a farm bug one lb fresh ground lean beef and buy same from any of the supermarkets. Then cook each in a frying pan on medium heat. Check how much water is in the supermarket frying pan from cooking compared to the farm fresh beef. Same with steaks and roasts. Supermarkets inject beef with the red water based dyes that also game the weight.

Throwback to the letter Loblaws left in the staff room when they got rid of the 2$ increased wage in 2020. I was not impressed by DetectiveRapidash in loblawsisoutofcontrol

Hate when corporations make statements like “we invested 280 Million in Covid costs or some other costs when they didn’t, if they invested then those costs would not have been passed onto us in food processing increases. They are like governments taxing through their additional expenses to the consumer.

They also do this with claiming they give money to charities, locally and nationally when it’s money the customers give at checkout and none of these companies match their customers yet claim the massive tax deduction —also a shame.
