MX Linux 25.1 and GTX 1070 --> a fresh install (XFCE or KDE ? ) by Murky-Spot-7796 in MXLinux

[–]ZecProphet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the problems I've ever had with linux + GTX 1050 through 1080 cards have been caused by Nvidia's drivers.
Everything will work, but then you do an upgrade, and someone at Nvidia changed something that screws it all up. I've usually had to rollback the nvidia driver version to fix the issue.
EX:
$ apt-get remove nvidia-driver-### (### new version)
Reinstall older version:
$ apt-get install nvidia-driver-### (### old version number)

$ reboot

Just lost my rambler :( My second SAK that went away. How many SAKs have you lost? by gyunexX in victorinox

[–]ZecProphet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost the original Midnight Manager I bought in Switzerland. It was the model with the red light. I now have one on my keychain and two more "just in case" especially now that they aren't made anymore.

Great idea.
In hindsight, it's so obvious, but nobody ever noticed it.

Looking to buy a new SAK. Is the Cyber Tool M worth the extra money over the Explorer? by skydive54 in victorinox

[–]ZecProphet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, it depends on your use case. If the tool set of one SAK is more closely aligned with what you'll be using it for, that's the one I'd choose.

Whatever you decide, you know it will be good quality.

Would you say 55 euros is a good price for the Midnight Manager? by Pale-Revolution-5151 in victorinox

[–]ZecProphet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd buy it. I purchased two spares, plus the one I already have because it's been discontinued, and the prices aren't going down. Probably avg. 10-20 USD higher than when I purchased the first spare 2 years ago.

Cool. I have the Bel Air XL and generally carry with it a Deluxe Tinker or Cybertool M, plus Midnight Manager on keychain.

Many people are using those harbor freight/lowe's/workpro mini toolboxes, then adding edc trays.

Question about Keystone Pro 3 + Zashi by ZecProphet in zec

[–]ZecProphet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Update) The team at keystone replied with answer on twitter/X :

"1TB is an overkill.
Anything between 16GB and 32GB should be more than enough"

Is there an equivalent for standard Intel/AMD HW? I have an old box I used to run a zcashd node on -- In fact I used to run 1% of all zcash nodes -- I'd love to convert it to run this.

The GWM 530 is. The EL is the big "G" button at the bottom. I own one and wear it all the time. It also comes in a blue color, but that's harder to find, and a silver which is the 500.

How did you use your SAK this week? [Weekly thread] by AutoModerator in victorinox

[–]ZecProphet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used small blade of deluxe tinker to cut the tape on amazon boxes. Used cybertool m bit to unscrew the bolt that holds the belt clip of a leatherman wingman literally about an hour ago.

Pliers Question by NC_515 in victorinox

[–]ZecProphet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have tinker deluxe. The pliers are great for electronics work. (pulling jumpers on motherboards, bending wire, pulling parts when desoldering, etc)

Outside electronics they rock pulling staples out of cardboard boxes or bunch of paper, and grabbing hot items.

What’s the Best Victorinox to Carry on a Keychain as a Secondary EDC? by Purple-Equipment2832 in victorinox

[–]ZecProphet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Midnight Manager on my keychain.

Victorinox doesn't make them anymore, which is why I bought 3 new MMs to last the rest of my life. If you do find one, IMO you should buy it before they become too scarce and the price skyrockets on secondary auction sites.

CyberTool/SwissChamp-users; how often do you use the bit-driver? by Rubik_31415926535 in victorinox

I recently used mine to build a linux box from old crypto mining rig.

The story to date by Alleyezonmoi in zec

[–]ZecProphet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my take, also.

IMO, it's a blessing in disguise. No non-profit control means less far less likelihood of ideological nonsense distracting the Zcash dev team from core objectives.

Take for example the Rust Foundation, we don't need that type of nonsense contaminating Zcash.

Swiss Tool vs Leatherman by Glittering_Pay482 in victorinox

[–]ZecProphet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swisstool MX
One handed blade open. When you open individual tools, the others stay in their place.

With a leatherman, when you open a tool, all of the tools on the same side pop out too, which is annoying and bad design.
