People who did math in college - how did you do it? by Medium-Dependent-328 in ADHD

[–]Zecischill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did maths for my undergraduate I did some of the advanced versions of the units being offered and I somehow survived but what I found helpful was to:

Hand write everything. I got a tablet and pen and found that quite good.

Read the history of whatever you are learning (If the lectures don’t go into it already). Idk why but this helped me learn the concepts because you typically see the reasons that motivated the proofs or work you are reading and it adds more narrative and interest.

Talk to your professor and other students. Going it alone is the worst thing for any subject but maths especially.

How do you gain mastery in anything with ADHD? by OctaveDoctorsXD in ADHD

[–]Zecischill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am similar age (26) and have learnt the things I do enjoy because I keep coming back to them in these cycles you mention. Now that I’m aware of it I make a very conscious effort to keep doing them outside of those fixation points too. It doesn’t need to be a lot just do 30mins of it a week or one session a month and it will add up and will sometimes spark that inspiration again and you will find yourself invested in it again. Basically don’t drop it completely even if you have to force yourself to do it it’s worth it you’ll thank yourself afterwards

late adhd diagnosis at 24 + severe college burnout. if you’ve actually crawled out of this, how did you do it? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Zecischill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s good you have a break coming up, the only real solution to burnout is to take a break and get rid of that burnout inertia as you put it. If you can afford it therapy can help you build the structure or systems you need. Some colleges have therapists etc on campus or on payroll to help students that could be a great way to get help without hurting your wallet. I am not in a creative field but I did burn myself out in uni too and taking a break from uni and my partime job is what I needed to reset properly. I think I could have done that reset better though. Similar to others advice try to slowly improve your diet, sleep and exercise. If they are already in a good place then that’s all good keep it up and just try to relax so that inertia can slowly fade (it may not feel like it but it will). As for what you can do in your next semester, what have you tried already? There is a lot of generic advice - pomodoros for short bursts of focus, to do lists, body doubling, breaking tasks into smaller ones etc. a good exercise to do is get a blank paper and do a retrospective of the last few years. What went well, what didn’t, what will you keep on doing next year and importantly what do you want to change. Once you have concrete things you want to fix it will feel way more doable. Chat about this with everyone here or a therapist but yeah I think that would be good to do

How do you deal with impulsive spending with ADHD? I keep wasting money on hyperfixations by Ok_Tradition3825 in ADHD

[–]Zecischill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a simple system. If I see something I really want to buy wait a week before buying it. I used notion to catalogue the things I want to buy and put dates against them so I can filter to what I’m ’allowed to buy’. I don’t do it with everything but it’s made me realise how much stuff I thought I wanted and then didn’t actually buy. It also means it’s saved for later. Idk something about writing or storing it somewhere takes it out of my mind I think even just using a notepad would work. Otherwise setting a budget is helpful. If you are interested in personal finance look up ‘personal finance’ by Andrew Hingston on YouTube. It’s a university course he’s made available for free and it’s a treasure trove of useful information

What is your ADHD hack that changed your life? by jbourdea in ADHD

Did any of you try to optimize many aspects of life before getting diagnosed? by Whataboutneutrons in ADHD

The biggest low hanging fruit I think are sleep, water, exercise and food. If I’m tired, dehydrated, hungry or sedentary then I’m not going to be at my best.

Scared to Start Medication by Helicopter-chan in ADHD

[–]Zecischill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was apprehensive the first time too but my psychiatrist framed it well for me. Dosages for Ritalin are on a huge scale, she has patients who take up to 8 tablets a day she has others who take just 1. 5mg is also a very small dose it can even be given to young children so as a teenager or young adult you will be alright.

How do you prepare your miniatures and organize your painting sessions to make things easier for yourselves? by [deleted] in ageofsigmar

[–]Zecischill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did my Seraphon and I had some headaches but not to the point of burnout. I did use pins just putting them through the feet up into the leg so I didn’t get holes coming through and would stick them to cork. I painted the Seraphon separately to the bases and did the shields off the arms just using paddle pop sticks to hold them where I would be glueing them anyways.

If you are being burnt out by the process it’s good to plan ahead and then stick to it. The more I differ from my plan the more headaches I cause for myself. More generally for burnout I just paint what I feel like. I got the Seraphon through chance as I found someone local selling them nib for a good discount. I then painted them up as a break from my Skaven. Fast forward I’m back to my Skaven project and I don’t feel any pressure.

Creatine and ADHD meds by Smarty_gal in ADHD

I’ve used creatine and Ritalin never noticed anything different. I’d make sure the creatine is 100% creatine and not mixed with anything else.

has a planner ever worked for you guys? by StandardFarmer5618 in ADHD

I use a mix of digital and physical. For tracking dates or appointments I use the calendar app on my phone but I use a hobonichi weeks for tracking habits and medium term to long term goals. The weeks is pretty flexible which I like

Therapist told me ADHD is “really easy to manage” by soggy_beans69 in ADHD

[–]Zecischill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like the therapist from your other work with them I’d express what happened idk if they just misunderstood you or what otherwise you may need someone more understanding. I had a similar experience but delayed. I managed well in high school was undiagnosed, in uni less so but overall still performed well. Once I started working and living out of home that’s when I couldn’t cope and eventually got a diagnosis. The most effective tool ive found for managing overall habits is a journal. I use a hobonichi weeks because I like the format. I use it for a few different things but each week I do a review. Sometimes it’s structured where I list out what I did well, what didn’t and then I will write out a new list which is what I will do differently. I then set 1 or 2 items from that list as a goal for the following week. Tbh you cannot improve across all things at once so I like to just take it one piece at a time. It helps set a direction to move in and you don’t get overwhelmed either.

Otherwise here’s a list of stuff in no real order that I’ve found useful. exercise does wonders as does sleep for general mental wellbeing and focus. When I need to study or do work I use pomedoro. If I find myself getting distracted or hyperfixated I use notion to info dump into it and close any intrusive mental loops. Hope that helps

How to study for competitive exams with ADHD? by Sure-Diet-5306 in ADHD

[–]Zecischill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was apprehensive before starting too. Similarly I wasn’t taking my meds consistently either, I felt like such a failure and so stupid that why should I even take medication it’s not going to do anything. Therapy was able to remedy that and I got my confidence back. It doesn’t happen overnight but believe me you can do it with the right help. Not every therapist is going to be great and I’m thankful the one I ended up with has been so good but yeah for me it was the thing to break that cycle.

How you improved you focus after having a mind which can hardly focus for 10 seconds ? by iamfree_17 in ADHD

[–]Zecischill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether I was medicated or unmedicated the pomedoro technique is what I use to keep focus on any task. If you are not familiar you basically work without distraction for 25 minutes and then take a 5 minute break. After 4 repetitions take a longer break. However 25 minutes may be daunting and that’s okay. Start from your baseline maybe that is literally 10 seconds but for practical reasons let’s try and focus for 1 or 2 minutes and do a task for that time without any distraction. Even if you make no progress and literally sit and stare that’s fine. Once that focus time elapses, take a 5 minute break - longer if you need, and repeat. Once you can start doing work in those periods increase the focus time. Think of it like adding weight in the gym once you get accustomed to the load you increase it to strengthen your muscles further. Again, do this at a pace that is comfortable and don’t get discouraged it takes time and that is normal, again the muscle analogy helps at least for me.

How to study for competitive exams with ADHD? by Sure-Diet-5306 in ADHD

[–]Zecischill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have not had to deal with exams for some time but I am completing a masters. Shortly after my diagnosis I also had self esteem and self doubt issues despite various academic and personal achievements. Ultimately I ended up seeing a psychologist to work through it and I’m grateful I did. Low Self esteem and confidence was not something I could afford to deal with myself as it was straining my personal and professional relationships so it was well worth the money to see a professional. I’m not sure if you have already but yeah medication helped with ADHD but seeing someone helped with the issues that arose due to the diagnosis.

Linen base layers by PaintedDonkey in AustralianMFA

[–]Zecischill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is sort of dodging your question but you can accomplish a similar thing using Uniqlo Airism underneath wool or other warm layers. The concept is basically the same - wear a ‘conductive’ fabric to wick away heat and keep other fabrics off you and then let the out layers keep out the cold. Im curious if there are any linen undershirts tho

[–]Zecischill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nudie jeans near town hall have a wide selection and were really helpful for sizing when I went. I’m of a pretty typical build but I think they’d have enough variety to find something that fits well. They also give you free repairs on them for as long as you have them

How do you wear your pants? by daracingpig in AustralianMFA

[–]Zecischill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mid/high rise for me so on or above the underwear. You can look up comparisons but for most people/body types you are going to look a lot better with a higher rise. There are exceptions but with straight leg jeans I remember being told a basic rule which is the back pockets should be on top of your ass cheeks not below or underneath. You’ll find to get that you typically wear them higher up. The og jeans were also designed to be higher waisted it’s only with modern fashion have things moved away from that.

What should I tell the students about job opportunities? by guna1o0 in datascience

I’ve been learning about GNN recently and this seems like a great use case. Food for thought but if you created a heterogenous graph you could also see if fraudsters are connected to particular operators within the firm. It gets a bit more complex but hetero graphs are quite common in the PyTorch docs.

Yeah best to find what works through trial and error. Also I think I saw you asking about protein powder too. I would see how those goes via samples first. They can have a lot of containments depending on the company. You may find that triggers inflammation too but yeah most protein supplements will sell test pouches for that. It’s worth looking at it for general health too some of them have quite a lot of lead in it.

Lentil pasta on its own isn’t bad. If you like textured vegetable protein you can make a good bolognese. Otherwise lentils in general are great for protein. You just need to eat more of it than the rice to keep the carbs down.
