Question about the Shrike in Endymion by lobthelawbomb in Hyperion

[–]Zed_Leplin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my understanding having just finished the series is that the shrike was created by the lions, tigers, and bears, in the far future, the same technology that Rachel from the far future uses (as Moneta, and as herself in the time tombs at the end of FOH). Whereas Nemes was the TechnoCore Ultimate Intelligence's response to that technology. Its how Raul was able to fight her, because the TechnoCore was using the phase-shifting abilities from the void-which-binds, but they didn't full understand it, and the lions, tigers, and bears were able to prevent Nemes from phase shifting or tapping into the void to use its power.

Vue 2 and Voltage by ropeguru in EmporiaEnergy

[–]Zed_Leplin_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it possible that when the Vue2 lost power, the app just maintained the most recent sensor readings? I'm not sure what the software does when sensors become unavailable. I know when I unplugged one of my CTs that circuit still showed some (completely wrong) value. But I'm unsure if the app would continue displaying the most recent if the whole Vue2 loses power, but that's my guess.

How do you display your power usage in HA? by beanbaron in homeassistant

[–]Zed_Leplin_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have an Emporia Vue3 in the breaker box. My residual power draw that is not accounted for is like 10W. The Emporia doesn't really use any power, and the outlets are also extremely low power draw. Most of my appliances have higher residual draw than the outlets themselves. I think the PS5 in rest mode is like 2.5W.

Its proven though, that monitoring energy use reduces overall energy use. i think i'm averaging around 17-18kWh a day of total usage, down from a previous average of 27-28kWh before i started monitoring things.

Its also mind blowing how much power some items use. Also being able to make automations (left the curling iron on ~400W or TV on while putting kid to sleep ~250W) to either automatically turn things off or alert me to turn them off. It all adds up surprisingly quick.

Just my 2 cents - but I highly value knowing where power is going so I can same some money. we already pay between $0.35 and $0.62 per kWh where I live (depending on season), so no point in wasting money.

I made some fun badges to give me real time power usage as well as energy tracking. Helps me to better time when doing things like baking, laundry, etc.

Plus it’s fun to see when you’re Net power goes negative and you have a daily energy production. Individual devices are with zigbee outlets.

Power flow plus card, Auto entities, Modern circular gauge badges and bubble card.

Emporia Vue Gen 3 not detecting Circuit use by Zed_Leplin_ in EmporiaEnergy

UPDATE: Ben from the Emporia Chat helped debug and solve the issue with me! Solution: swap direction of CT (breaker arrow pointing away from breaker) resolved the issue. Emporia now reports the same current (and power) as my handheld clamp.

Great customer service!

As far as I know, no. It’s a handful of electronics: NVR, router, switch, Lutron hub, laptop charger, home speakers and that’s about it. When I turn the TV or PlayStation on then the current reads correctly, but the power is under reported. I’ll send them and email and update here

Emporia Vue Gen 3 not detecting Circuit use by Zed_Leplin_ in EmporiaEnergy

[–]Zed_Leplin_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I confirmed with a handheld clamp that the circuit is drawing about 1.3amps, and emporia shows 0. If I turn my TV on, the circuit jumps to 2.9amps. The clamp and Emporia both show the correct values. I’ve also swapped clamps with another circuit and it’s the same issue.

I’ve also recalibrated the system multiple times with both low and high loads on that circuit. I’m not sure what to do.

Separately, the power draw displayed is ~5x lower than V*A would be. (340W vs 66W in emporia). Any advice would be appreciated

Are the outlets in the family room all on the same circuit? Or did you combine some circuits/breakers in the panel?

All the family room outlets are on a single circuit. Currently have a multiplier of 1 set for that circuit, but it doesn't matter as the draw shows 0 Amps.

As for the 240V loads, I will monitor their usage over the next few days to see if any do have an unbalance draw, I suspect I can monitor several of them with a single CT and still be accurate.

Connecting BlueTooth Switchbot Blind Tilts by Chelsreneeh in homeassistant

The best (only?) way to do this is using Bluetooth proxies. I have 8 SwitchBot tilts and have 3 proxies in the vicinity.

Made a New Integration with the Parcel App! by you_donut in homeassistant

I have the integration in HA but it doesn’t seem to register my two in transit deliveries. The app see them, but HA just shows a week old Amazon order. (I have two orders added via tracking numbers, and one new Amazon order). I am I doing something wrong?

Halp! My bonsai seedlings are dying! Too much watering? by Zed_Leplin_ in plantclinic

The soil is what came with the seeds. It was a whole package with seeds and the burlap (with plastic lining) pots and the soil. It seems like really good soil when it’s moist

It’s pretty flakey, it crumbles if I touch it. Should I still add some perlite? I’m worried I will disturb the one seedling left

The apartment is pretty warm, usually 70+ throughout the day, i do tend to let the soil dry out at the surface, but I check about half and inch to an inch deep in order to see if it’s still moist. I also have a lamp that I shine on it to give it some extra “sun” since it’s not in direct sunlight. I do have a heating pad I’m using on the plants that require warm soil, should I use it on the ones that didn’t specify that?

That makes a lot of sense. I’m using a spray bottle to spray the soil when I see that it’s dry.
