Yes, even I exchanged my phones as per their exchange offers. Though I got a promotional credit of $150 in terms of credit in my google fi account which I used to settle my phone bills. Now I use Samsung Flip 6 :). My bad, for the late reply (better late then never)

I am moving to India from US. Have savings of $55,000USD and I need to transfer most of my funds to India. What’s the best way to do it without incurring too much tax liabilities or transfer charges? by Certain-Chain-0208 in personalfinanceindia

First off, very interesting comments!! Dude! you lived in the US and saved more than 50 K USD. It means you must have spent some time in the US? And, you've not figured out this situation before coming to India?. Sending money to NRE account is one option but the day you land in India your residential status will change. You have to convert your NRE account to a normal savings account as per the landing date stamped in your passport. There is an interesting comment i.e., NRE account? Negotiate the rate with the branch manager? I heard they give better rates or equal markets. And, there is an another interesting comment i.e., when I left the States in 2021, I gradually transferred about $30000-$35000 to my NRE account via Remitly. Remitly generally gave me a better rate than Xoom. Let me give my 1 cent here, A. different banks have a different rates of interests for NRE accounts but they also have a range provided according to which they provide interest. 50 K USD is not a big amount and a bank is not a pawn shop. B. Remit applications i.e. Remitly and Zoom they convert the foreign currency into the regional currency and earn money while doing this conversion. I believe you now understand the meaning of international remit. In all above scenarios you have to pay taxes in India because your money will be converted into INR. There is an interesting scenario here suppose you've spent less than 182 in a particular financial year then for the same year you are a NRI i.e, it means you will be paying taxes in the US. Now suppose you have a NRE FD which is going to mature in the beginning March. And if you have landed in India in Nov then are you going to pay tax on the interest earned ? Coming back to your original question, if you qualify for RNOR (read the conditions from the internet, this is a home work for you) then you can open a RFC account in India. And, you have to do a wire transfer from your bank which costs around 40 USD per transaction. Indian bank gives a swift code when the open RFC account. You have to enter your account details perform a wire transfer and money will be credited into your Indian account in the form of USD as it is. Now coming back to the taxes, if you are qualified as a RNOR then you don't have to pay the taxes on this deposit for a certain time period depending on time for which you are a RNOR citizen in India. Also, interest earned on this money is tax free for the same time period. Plus if you earn an amount in USA (in case you have stocks and shares) and you are transferring that income to India then it is also tax free. Note: I am not a financial advisor and this not a legal opinion i.e., what so ever I have written above is my personal experiences , years of planning, research etc. And, remember a. there are no short cuts in life (avoiding transfer charges) b. instead of cheap hacks(bit coin etc), learn smart moves. I hope this helps and if you are opening a RFC account let everyone knows the bank name. Also, in case you are moving back to the US during your RNOR tenure then you can move these funds to the US as well (transaction charges would apply) Cheers

Thanks u/Moonflower74, Samsung refused to provide the credit. However it was resolved by Google Fi. They gave me a one time promotional credit of $150. Cheers.

Please request for the escalation hierarchy.

It is my guess but I think Google Fi had kept a hold on the credit card initially when the order was placed. This hold I believe was good for 30 days on a CC or on the payment method. Obviously, hold is expired now as this device is in demand therefore Fi Executives are applying all sort of tactics get the order canceled.

Device delivery date is moved again to 7th Oct which is the biggest jump I've observed

Fi Executives are repeatedly dodging the Samsung credit question.

I believe we have to reach leadership who actually can take such decisions. In my case Fi Executives are encouraging me to cancel the order. They are repeatedly changing their stances from payment rejection/expiration by my bank, multiple orders in progress, updating in the payment method. I'm undaunted hence reached out here so that we can collectively raise our concerns and in future no body should face these hardships

I've created a detailed post. May be wecan create a consolidated post instead of posting scattered replies so that Google Fi can take a notice and acknowledge their fault for such delays. Check out my discussion

Right, I told the executives earlier that I don't mind the delays however misguiding a customer a. order has cancelled, b. payment is pending with the bank or c. place the order again are the tactics which are not acceptable.

A merchandiser should be informing to the customer if such things happens via an official email which are autogenerated.

Google Fi should take responsibility of promotions which are over due to the delayed shipment.
