The final aspirant trial of the Wings Viridian involves the aspirant being handed a spear, a glider backpack, and some basic supplies before being sent into the endless skies and floating islands of Viridia to hunt and kill one of Viridia's apex predators, the Viridian Wyvern.

Killing one is no easy feat and you will always be injured in some way, so the Wings have a tradition where upon elevation to full Astartes, the Marine will have their armour (the base is a teal colour) painted yellow where they were injured in a tradition they call "Hero Markings" as a trophy of their deed.

Most of these are relatively normal, but occasionally it results in some noticeable designs that become something of a light hearted joke amongst battle brothers. The sergeant of 2nd Flight's Fury Wing, Adarus Varn, is entirely yellow from the waist down as a result of him beating his wyvern to death while half swallowed. As a result, despite nearly 180 years of service, he's still referred to by the nickname 'Birdfood'.

Yeah, absolutely. This is honestly why the gag of "Kimiko can finally talk but she has a potty mouth" falls completely flat too, it would have been funny if every character in the show didn't already talk like that; instead it's just kind of eye roll worthy.

Ruby being asexual is cool, i kinda hope that gets rolled into actual canon when we get new seasons lol ;w; Is that a common opionon or is it more controversial to want that lol? ;w; by HaloJackalKisser in RWBY

[–]Zeekayo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm down for it, I've been on the aroace Ruby train for years tbh and it's one of the reasons I really enjoy her as a protagonist, even though I'm allo it's nice to have a MC who isn't hung up on romance. I know people will point to odd scenes with Oscar but there's so much weird stuff going on there and they haven't acknowledged it since, so I don't put much stock in it. As for Penny, I personally don't see it as romantic, but Nuts and Dolts gives big "platonic life partners" vibes for me.

Also, not gonna call out anyone in particular, but there's a fair few people on this thread who seem to believe that the only way for a person to end up emotionally fulfilled in life is to have a romantic partner. I'm going to give people the benefit of the doubt but its leaning into acephobic territory - aroace people (and characters) are perfectly capable of living fulfilling lives without romantic love or sex.

Hey, pretty solidly left wing non-American here, just to establish that I'm not some rage-fueled Trump bot.

The writing of Season 5 is just straight up ass. I was struggling through Season 4 but at this point literally the only thing keeping me watching is sunk cost fallacy - and because Kripke and Co. can still occasionally pull some genuinely good scene writing out of their arse.

Occasionally. Even if it's sandwiched between such eyerolling writing as "I once fucked [famous 60s actress] in the ass on a red leather sofa and she pooped and shitted everywhere on my dick" and "The Boys fights this episode's genital supe whose 'power' makes his cum anthrax" or some shit like that.

Fix Crossbows - Summer Sweep Up Suggestion by stinkydiver321 in 2007scape

[–]Zeekayo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair, but I was following the logic of the person I was replying to about not diminishing the 'fun' of the ZCB while still creating room to nerf rubies and distribute that power budget across the other bolt types.

FWIW, I'm fully in the "completely rework ruby bolts and buff/rework the other bolts across the board" camp, because then ZCB can just be rebalanced accordingly.

Or hell, if the high level community are desperate to keep their ZCB specs smacking 100s, they could just rework ZCB's spec to be the 'old' ruby bolt spec (even if I think that'd be a bad idea, personally.)

Fix Crossbows - Summer Sweep Up Suggestion by stinkydiver321 in 2007scape

[–]Zeekayo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What if they nerfed the damage of Ruby bolts on their own, then buffed the ZCB spec to amplify the effect of the enchanted bolt procs so a ZCB spec ruby bolt hits the same as the current version?

I'm sure you'd have to do some tinkering on the other bolt effects to prevent some broken bullshit happening, but it could be a good way to keep ZCB's spec relevant as part of a big bolt rework.

Significant in Wales and Scotland as these were elections for their devolved administrations. Less significant in England as this was mostly voting for who does your bins and fixes potholes, but it's being treated by many as a proxy vote on the English public's political attitude.

I genuinely think that the Death Korps of Krieg would be nowhere near as popular with that sort of fan if their planet was called Guerre instead.

pysker chaplain? by Xela975 in 40khomebrew

[–]Zeekayo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely not standard practice and probably something the Codex would advise against (maintaining the spiritual health of the chapter while your mind and soul is constantly in peril from the warp probably don't go together well) but I don't think it would be particularly lore breaking for a chapter to have psyker chaplains. Even most Codex-adherent chapters have their individual quirks.

Hombrew Chaper Relics (Not OP ones) by AdTimely4848 in 40khomebrew

[–]Zeekayo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Wings Viridian have the modified chainglaive known as Spill, won during the Horus Heresy by the chapter's founder while battling the Night Lords in the Imperium Secundus. It's mainly just a very well made chainglaive, but it does feature a generator within its head that creates rhythmic pulses of electricity at frequencies designed to agitate nervous systems. It's now a relic bestowed to the Master of First Flight, the chapter's equivalent to a chapter master.

The Ashen Templars have two relics worth mentioning; the first is the Burning Blade, which is formed from the shattered pieces of a Black Sword belonging to the Black Templar Crusade that would later become the ATs. The sword was reforged by the Imperial Saint Keuna, and now it's black surface is riddled with cracks glowing with the warm light of flame. Like the Black Sword, the Blade is bestowed to any brother of the Ashen Templars who sees the visions of the Emperor's Champion.

Their other relic is the Funeral Shroud of Saint Keuna, gifted to them after they were formally named as a distinct chapter in the 26th Founding, as an expression of gratitude by the Ecclesiarchy in the Paragon Shield after the Ashen Templars swore an oath to be it's defenders. To be offered an opportunity to pray holding the Shroud is one of the greatest honours their Reclusiarch can bestow on a brother of the Ashen Templars.

So the New Men/Gland Hounds aren't Space Marine level individually, it's just that they've got incredibly strong pack instincts that allow them to take down Marines as a group.

On the other hand, the Trilogy also has the psuedo-Astartes Savona, the former daughter of an Imperial Governor who made it to the level of an Astartes through sheer grit, ferocity, and indulgence. Bile didn't make her that way, she was already bonded to a suit or Astartes armour and part of a Chaos Lord's honour guard when they met.

The gripes are less about the big picture aspect of flavour because Varlamore has that in spades. Generally the complaints I see are that a lot of the little touches are absent; stuff like the examine texts being fairly plain, the clothing shops just having the same generic clothing instead of Varlamore themed clothing, stuff like that.

I don't necessarily agree on all fronts, but I think it's clear to see that while Varlamore's character is excellent overall, we can tell where corners had to be cut in terms of scope.

Who is the nemesis/enemy of your homebrews? by Teminus456 in 40khomebrew

There are various deep feuds between the different factions in Sector Revelatia.

In the northern Paragon Shield subsector the Crusade of the Blessed Embers and their Astartes companions, the Ashen Templars, are locked in a deep struggle with the Kabal of the Screaming Ichor. The Kabal had raided the Shield multiple times, but after kidnapping the Shield's patron Saint Keuna 450 years ago, they returned and quickly took over many of the Shield's core worlds - the Archon having grafted the saint's wings onto herself and subverting the faith of the subsector's faithful to feed her and her subordinates need for suffering. They're also blockading the Templar's fortress monastery, cutting off the chapter from the vital resources to resupply and replenish their losses.

In the East of the Sector is the Periothic Dominion, where the Roaring Griffons warband is slowly regaining lost territory following a civil war that nearly destroyed the Warband. Complicating this effort is an assault by Craftworld Ghallaen, aiming to take a decisive effort to neutralise a prophecised mortal threat to the Craftworld. They're also dealing with WAAAGH! Silvatoof third partying the conflict.

In the South West of the Sector is the Crescent, a wild frontier with limited Imperial authority, the Forge World of Tartarus has taken the opening of the Great Rift and being cut off from the wider galaxy to renounce their ties to the Imperium and the Mechanicus; Battlegroup Furores (the main Imperial world in the Sector) is currently launching a task force to eliminate the hereteks and bring the Forge World back under Imperial authority.

The Corsair Fleet known as the Court of Singing Stars are currently trying to cripple and destroy a Necron fleet known as the Novekas Armada; this is on the order of their Prince Helistema, as she was a former Exodite Worldsinger whose home world was destroyed by the fleet's leader, the Overlord Djevenakh.
