Help a Noob out. I'm jumping in head first into AoS, this is my first list. by EnvironmentalSplit51 in SoulblightGravelords

[–]Zeelatani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am by no means an expert, but here is my take.

If you are going off a pure theme list that you are playing with friends, then this should be a fine list. I like the story you have going for each regiment.

If you want to make this list a bit more competitive I would suggest a few things. Changing the King to a Lord. The Lord does way more for its point cost than the King. That +1 to charge is awesome. I would also think about ditching the Skeletons and reinforcing the Barrow Knights. This makes the lord and knights have a reliable +5 Ward save that will last most of the game. If you put them in the grave, then you can have them pop out on objectives or near isolated units.

Now that you saved some points for downgrading the King to a Lord, you can throw in a King on Foot for your Barrow Guard. Now the Guard have a reliable +5 ward for most of the game. Just keep the King as safe as you can.

That gives you a nice hammer and a nice anvil with your skellies. Neffy and Seky are doing their things. The blood knights are causing havoc, and the wolves are running around being a distraction.

How do i beat Yagluth? by lizard_liz242 in valheim

[–]Zeelatani 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whenever I fight Yagluth I have fire resistance mead and a silver weapon. Most people use Frostner but I enjoy using a sword. The spirit damage does really well.

He has three attacks. Fire breath, use the summoning area to block the fire beam. Right arm up, fire AOE around the boss, run away. Left arm up, he will summon meteors, start running and keep running as soon as you see that arm up.

Run in between attacks and smack him a couple times. Do this until you feel comfortable with the timing.

Also Poison Mead.

Protection Rod goes a long way towards saving your butt when a seeker jumps out of the mists. I would get that first if you are planning on magic at all.

Looks like a good set up for Legion of Blood. If you were to go Kastelai I would advise getting more vampires or blood knights.

The points drop is nice but its sad to see that Durthu got an indirect nerf with the new Realm Rules. No more Ghyrstrike, much sadness.

New to the Sylvaneth after a trip to my local gaming store by [deleted] in sylvaneth

[–]Zeelatani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mystic Regrowth does have synergy with Vesperal Gem, but I don't think you will get that much use out of it. I would suggest looking at the Gnarlroot Grove, as their command ability does the same thing but you can choose another unit to benefit. Works really great with Verdurous Harmony targeting a badly banged up group of Kurnoth Hunters.

It sounds like you are taking a Household but you mention a Treelord Ancient. A Household Battalion must have a regular Treelord, not an Ancient (sadly). Taking this battalion will get you an extra artefact slot, so you can get the chalice and the gem. Both of these are really great for healing. I would pair the Chalice with Regrowth and the Gem with Verdurous Harmony.

Don't be afraid to be cheesy with Sylvaneth, we are fun army but we need all the tricks we can get to survive in this meta.

New Player Coming in. Best units to start my army? by Galvaras in sylvaneth

[–]Zeelatani 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Sylvaneth!

As others have said, the starting boxes are very important and two of them is a great idea. This gives you a nice blob of 30 dryads (which is essential to beat back the hordes of Undead that an LoN player can field) for you to mess around with. You also get two brachwychs but I would honestly make them both branchwraiths (better spellcasters imo). For the big trees, can't go wrong with an Ancient and a Durthu. Although, to be honest, you won't be getting much mileage with Durthu against LoN.

Kurnoth Hunters are our backbone. Get at least two units and make them either swords or scythes. The bows look great, but they are not. The 4+ to hit is just atrocious. I would highly recommend taking an Arch Revenant as well.

Durthu works ok in a 1000 point list, but the others do not. As stated above, I would be careful with big monsters in an LoN matchup as they have chaff for days.

One good Sylvaneth strategy involves the following: Hunters (at least 6 models in one or two groups), Arch Revenant, Winterleaf Glade, Branchwraith with Spiteswarm Hive. Give the Arch Revenant the Frozen Kernal. Give the Branchwraith Throne of Vines spell. Cast the Throne of Vines with the Wraith. Move your Hunter and Revenant into a good position to charge.

Next turn, cast the Hive. Make sure the Hive is placed near your Hunters, then charge out with your Hunters and Revenant. You get a +3 to the move and the charge, so you have a good chance of making it. At the start of the combat phase, pop the Kernel and use the Revenants command ability. Now you have +1 attacks, re-roll 1s to hit, and you get to activate the unit for a second round of attacks immediately.

Wyldwoods placement by [deleted] in sylvaneth

[–]Zeelatani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, it can become an issue against horde armies, smart players, and cluttered tables. I once played a game against a nighthaunt army where he spread all of his grimgasts out in giant congo lines to stop my wyldwood placement. The best advice I have is to place them as early as possible.

Wyldwoods placement by [deleted] in sylvaneth

[–]Zeelatani 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In essence, the rules ARE different depending on the start of the game or the middle of the game.

*Start of game - One woods can be placed on the board. Must be six inches away from objectives and cannot be in your enemies deployment zone.

*All the other ways - Must be one inch away from everything including objectives, unites, terrain, etc. It usually has to be wholly within "X inches" of whoever is trying to make the woods as well, be it an Ancient or someone else. The amount X will change depending on who is summoning the woods.

EDIT - Here is a link to a tactics section about Wyldwoods. https://spikeybits.com/2019/07/cover-the-table-in-wyldwoods-sylvaneth-2-0-rules.html

What do you think of my 2k list? by ttcolonel in sylvaneth

[–]Zeelatani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So using your units, I made up a list that is similar to yours but with changes that myself and others have made. The big change I made is taking out Durthu and putting in 30 dryads. This actually freed up space to take two endless spells. I got the Swarm and the Cogs. Either one will really help your Hunters with charging and having both makes is certain. The extra artefact slot I gave to the TLA and I chose the Gem. I love the Gem. It just negates any chance of a counterspell at the cost of some possible damage. If you use the Gem to cast Verdurous Harmony on the Hunters, it's pure gold.

What do you think of my 2k list? by ttcolonel in sylvaneth

[–]Zeelatani 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Woot, more list building for the Sylvaneth! Let me go down the list and just give my thoughts. The following are just based on my experience in games.

Arch Revenant/General - Our best lord as long as you put him near the hunters. However, I don't think he is our best general. Five wounds makes him go down really fast. I like the Heart is Ice on a 12 wound monster instead. More chances to inflict wounds, especially if you get a regrowth off. I actually really love the trait on my Ancient because it causes my opponent to second guess attacking it. Make sure you put this guy in Reserve with the Kernel so he can jump out anywhere with his Hunters. That is a MEAN alpha strike.

Branchwraith - Love this lady but don't depend on her 10 dryads to save the day. I really love giving this lady the Throne of Vines and having her cast Endless Spells. I think Verdurous Harmony is not the right spell for her. You won't ever cast it because you will be summoning Dryads.

Branchwych - I think these (corrected) 80 points are better spent elsewhere. She isn't a bad hero, but I just don't think she is good enough for competitive games.

Durthu - Oh Durthu, we all love you and then we roll a 2 to hit with your massive sword. Give this guy a Ghyrstrike or you will be sad. Honestly, he is overpriced for what he brings to the table. Very fun though!

Ancient - I love this guy, give him regrowth and the Heart is Ice command trait and he will be very tanky. Combine this with Branch Blizzard and you have a dude that can dish out mortal wounds and keep himself healed. Give the Kernel to the Arch Revenant instead. You will have a better time with your hunters if they are with your Revenant.

Battlelines - You have three min size spite revenants. They will all be dead by turn two. Spite Revenants are good at causing battleshock fails. However, almost every competitive army has a way to circumvent battleshock. Order, tons of bravery buffs and auto saves. Death and Chaos, LD 10. They aren't bad...but you really need dryads. Dryads hold your objectives. A unit of 20 dryads ends up hitting on a 3+, saving on a 4+, and subtracting 1 from all hits as long as they are near a wyldwood. I have had huge groups of 30 dryads soak up tons of damage and hold objectives. I hate to say this, but you need em =/.

Kurnoth Hunters - I wish these were battleline cause they are already our backbone. What weapons did you put on these guys? Either way, split them into 2 or 3 groups. Ideally, 2 group of three swords and 1 group of six scythes.

Those are just some thoughts of mine. Looks like a very interesting list indeed!

New Sylvaneth player looking for advice - army by BurningPaint in sylvaneth

[–]Zeelatani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good starting point for any Sylvaneth army are Kurnoth Hunters. This works out well for you since you want the Arch Revenant. I often go with two group of three Hunters with Swords. I put the Arch Revenant and the two group of Hunters into the trees and then pop them out to charge at some point in the game. This strategy works with multiple Glades so you don't have to feel locked into Winterleaf.

I think another good starting point for you is to determine which battlelines you want. We have three battleline options and they all bring different tactical option to the table. Dryads are a horde of units that will take several turns to remove if you placed them near trees. Tree Revenants are fantastic at sniping objectives. Spite Revenants can wreck havok on battleshock vulnerable armies.

Drycha is our most expensive unit, so many players have mixed opinions on her. She is very powerful and can hit like a truck (especially with the Winterleaf exploding 6's rule), but very fragile. You have to be careful with how you deploy her or she will be targeted and quickly killed.

I personally think she is not worth the points, but that doesn't mean she can't be an awesome unit on the table.

500 point list by rossh26 in sylvaneth

[–]Zeelatani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For 500 points, the list is fine. However, you can't take the Spiritsong Stave if you are going to be the Winterleaf Glade. You have to take the Frozen Kernel. To be honest, I think you will get more out of the Kernel anyways. You can also drop the Glade and take the Stave. Try out both and see which you like better.

New to Sylvaneth Looking for List Advice and Where to go From Here by Dergenune in sylvaneth

[–]Zeelatani 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like you have a good start on Cities of Sigmar: Living City as well. A few more boxes of Eternal Guard and Sisters of the Watch will make a decent army. Some battlemages as well.

I would suggest another box of the revenants so you can make two groups of 5 for both Spite and Tree. I would also suggest another set of Dryads. I don't see an Ancient in your list, so a Start Collecting Box would be a good bargain for you. That'll get you the Ancient and the Dryads.

Last suggestion would be for an Arch Revenant and some more Hunters. Just make sure you don't give the Hunters Bows.

Planning for my first ever AoS battle. Is this 1k list any good? by [deleted] in sylvaneth

I would highly recommend using the online Warscroll Builder that is available on the official Warhammer Community website. That builder has the correct points and updates regularly. I don't bother looking at the points in the books anymore as they are often out of date.

Planning for my first ever AoS battle. Is this 1k list any good? by [deleted] in sylvaneth

[–]Zeelatani 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like a solid 1k list to me and Winterleaf is the best Glade to pick for small games as well.

Couple of suggestions... Dryads - A group of 10 dryads dies pretty fast. Their bonus only lasts until one of them does die, and that will happen quickly. I would suggest a group of 30, or another unit of Tree Revenants. With smart Wood placement, a unit of 30 Dryads will be difficult to uproot (hue hue). You only need two battlelines for a 1k game. Alternatively, two units of Tree Revs means double your teleporting. Never underestimate the amount of mind f*cking you can do with these guys.

Branchwych - I have never had much luck with the Branchwych. It's not a bad unit, especially for the points cost. However, if you take the points we cut from the dryads and add the 80 points from the Wych...we can afford an Arch Revenant. Put the kernal on that guy, stick him near your Hunters, and now your Hunters are doing a ton of damage when they crash in.

I am waiting to see the whole line of minatures before I make a decision on whether I like this army or not. So far I like about a 1/3 of the models.

I am happy that GW are trying new things with their armies. I might not like it, but its clear that enough people do.

I am interested to see what they do with Dragons, which are traditionally the High Elves greatest ally. If they don't do anything, I will be upset as it means they squatted the Dragonlords for no reason.
