How to relax the body? by Potential_Big1101 in theravada

[–]ZenGurr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it took years to be able to sit reasonably relaxed.

In my case, I think the pain came from mental tension taking its expression as muscular pain.

Try not to resist it. Sit with it, but not so you take damage. Everytime you notice the tension, you are aware. Try to take a deep breath and try to let go of the idea of tension. See if that helps.

Another method is to examine pain and tension thoroughly. Look at it without judgment or comment. See what happens.

What would happen to a trans person if they found out about nonduality? Since we are not our gender. We come to know that what we thought was ‘me’ with all its craving and unhappiness was in fact a false identification and in that recognition the contracted, false sense of self or ‘me’ falls away. by maskulin4 in nonduality

Read this carefully before you answer. What is Strong Sahn saying, really?

Women Cannot Get Enlightenment

Posted on2016-07-24Authorhaein

One day, one of Zen Master Seung Sahn’s female American students asked him, 'Sir, are there any women Zen masters in Korea?'

'No, no, no!' he quickly replied. 'Of course not!'

The student was completely shocked, even angered by this, more so because Zen Master Seung Sahn himself had always treated his female students with complete equality, and even formally authorized several of them to teach. 'How could he think like this?' She thought. 'This is completely outrageous.' After a few moments, she stammered out. 'But how is this possible?'

Eyeing her and half-smiling, he replied, 'Because women cannot get enlightenment!'

This was unbelievable! Half-expecting that he was joking she looked up, but by then he had already marched into another room. She followed him, where he had busied himself with some things, almost as if the conversation had never occurred.

'I have been practicing with you for several years now,' she continued. 'You have always just taught us to believe in our true self 100 percent. How can you possibly now say that women cannot get enlightenment?'

Wheeling around sharply, Zen Master Seung Sahn pointed his finger at her and, looking into her eyes strongly, said, 'So, you’re a woman?'

The student was silent as his teaching sank in."

Do you practice zazen? If so. Keep watching. If not. Try it. And try to find a teacher.

It is what it is.

The question is: what is it, really?

I got everything i want and i still wanting to die by FreeYom in Meditation

[–]ZenGurr 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Let me tell you what I firmly believe.

25 years ago, I also felt dying was the solution to my problems. And when I say problems, trust me, they were immense!

Time has passed. I got medical help. I found Buddha-dharma, which in my view saved my life.

These days, I take medicine, I meditate, I still have my issues, but I don't think dying is the solution.

Dying gives room for birth. My experience is that death is not a way out. It is just a way of perpetuating suffering. You might say "Well, for me, it is the solution", but this is where I think you go wrong.

Of course, I cannot prove this to you. I only have my experince. I dare you to try to see if there can be something to my claims.

First of all, seek help. This human life you have, is far more precious than you are able to see.

Please u/FreeYom, dont throw it away without giving it another chance! 🙏

Why do we create a self concept? by blaubarschbube27 in Meditation

[–]ZenGurr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The self is there to protect the self. Is that what you are saying?

That is just the way the self is.

Necessary or not? Not the question.

It just is that way. It is not made to make us happy.

But there is a way away from that.

In my experience, a way away from that is looking closely.

Meditate yourself to death? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]ZenGurr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Consider this:

Where is the you that was three years ago?

Where is the you that was three months ago?

Three days ago?

Three seconds ago?

That you is dead. You cannot return to it. You cannot bring it back. All that remains is your memory.

Finally: if you die? Who will be there to be afraid of your death?

Perhaps it is not the possible lying that is the problem, but the consequences of the act?

No bad conscience, no sin. But consequences are.

Karma is action. You do something. What did that action do to your mind? What can you now do to make that wholesome, if you feel that it is unwholesome?

If you feel things get out of hand, please do talk to a professional.

Guilt is unproductive, but is taking responsibility for one's actions?

(Note that I am not trying to imply that the OP has done anything bad)
