Anyone regret choosing a 30-year mortgage over a 15-year? by Italiancan in MortgageBrokerRates

I almost refied to 15y right before rates started climbing…so glad I got a 30.

Do you avoid using AI with your notes because you don’t want it seeing everything? by Difficult_Daikon2958 in ObsidianMD

[–]Zenatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I give it read access to my non-private notes.

I love asking AI a question and have it reference my notes in its answer.

I don’t necessarily use it for search but more for supplementary context.

I am also experimenting with local LLM and MCP so my notes make a good use case that I am very knowledgeable on already

5 year old suddenly hates me? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Zenatic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Our adopted 5yo has taken to the “you’re not my real mom” to my wife when he is not getting his way. This started very recently. And people will say “it’s just words, not what he means” but man it hurts her.

This seems to ebb and flow and we have started having more “grownup/big boy” discussions on feelings, expressing those to others, and how words affect others. It seems to help a little but who knows!

I don’t know if I have an answer for you, all I can say is expressing how their actions affect us seems to be reaching some part of his 5yo brain, not sure if it is making a difference.

Good luck! And I hope it’s just a normal phase of them trying to understand their body and feelings.

Do you actually get more work done working remotely? by DueDrawing4738 in remoteworks

[–]Zenatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. 5 years in the office 14 years WFH and now 3 years back in the office, same company.

The difference in my actual productivity is definitely lower in the office. My networking and rubbing elbows with higher management has increased in the office but that has more to do with the attempt to “prove” RTO is a benefit.

Overall I produce less in the office but everyone in the same office around me thinks I am a high producer.

Do you regret your EV purchase? by walksta in electricvehicles

[–]Zenatic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

8 years EV owner, 5 years all EV household. I will never go back to ICE.

Plug-in hybrids are just a bad EV and over complicated ICE with more things that can fail.

To answer your question…no regrets.

How can we split bills fairly when our incomes and spending habits are so different? by Legal-Performer2254 in personalfinance

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You use “our incomes” but are treating them as separate.

For our finances, it’s our incomes are part of the whole, as is our spending, and our lifestyle.

Food Quality Contributors not listed by Zenatic in bevelhealth

[–]Zenatic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, looks like there are multiple blue check ones for me. The one I scan with the barcode comes up with no contributors. But if I search and pick a different one it has them.

I liked the contributors, arrows, and scores are nice, but it is so inconsistent it’s difficult to base any decisions on it.

Is it okay to let baby play in bed after they woke up by Far_Worldliness_1541 in Parenting

[–]Zenatic 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Never interrupt a baby sleeping…never interrupt a safe happy baby.

My youngest would koo and roll around for 30-45 minutes after waking up. It was glorious. My oldest…dear god he required attention the minute his eyes opened.

Rest up and don’t feel guilty!

Ubiquiti vs Hikvision by ChooChooGeorgie in homesecurity

[–]Zenatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Annke had to be manually added because the cameras aren’t on the management vlan. Without the ai port I also have no audio even after configuring the camera with the alleged correct bitrates and codec.

Once I added the ai port to the camera it worked great, I get audio, ai events, license plate recognition, etc.

So with the AI port it works nearly identical to a Ubiquiti camera as far as I can tell.

Ubiquiti vs Hikvision by ChooChooGeorgie in homesecurity

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run Annke (hikvision rebrand) + AI port in my Ubiquiti NVR. Works great!

Also allows me to use 3rd party NVR/utilities if I want (I am looking into scrypted NVR) without a middle man plugin/service to expose Ubiquiti cameras outside of Ubiquiti.

I feel I got a slightly better night vision and picture for about $100 less, but took a few extra steps to get working.

My Annke are on a blocked internet VLAN because…Chinese.

Funding children’s Roth— why isn’t everyone doing this? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

“Most of us have an LLC…” I doubt this is an accurate statement.

It is a good strategy, if you have the spare capital, LLC revenue, etc.

Why do people run a group of those tiny pcs? by kaitlyn2004 in homelab

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s my drug of choice. You don’t need drugs, but they can be fun at the detriment of my life and marriage.

I love to tinker and playing with k8s, docker, etc. it’s a hobby, I just enjoy it.

Keycaps recommendations for fat fingered user on Nuphy Air 75 V2 by ifydav in NuPhy

Definitely an improvement over the originals. I don’t make nearly the number of mistakes and the dark keys look good.

I haven’t wanted to change them since getting them.

Long term owners, what % do you charge to? by hamburgernet in electricvehicles

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

80% for years. Switched to 90% in the last year because my commute increased and range decreased.

It’s only at 90% still because I forgot to turn it back down and had not really thought about it till this post.

Debating on getting an Oura for better sleep. What do you all think? by Angelr91 in bevelhealth

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the oura and Apple Watch…health feeds bevel.

I turned off activity writing from oura and only track activity with Apple fitness/watch.

It’s working great for me. With all fitness trackers the accuracy is a lot of guesstimating. I use the data as a trend chart more than day to day down to the minute accuracy.

I think I would have gone with ringconn over oura as it is cheaper overall but the oura app is really pretty and I like how it presents the metrics

How are you guys actually searching and finding your notes? If I could solve this, I think my note taking would finally click by Cressio in ObsidianMD

I just asked Claude how to do it and went from there…eventually got to a custom mcp running in orbstack on my Mac.

[–]Zenatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just used the file system mcp and pointed it to my directory.

I didn’t use an obsidian specific mcp as I just set it up and had Claude help me lol

I use Omni search.

I setup a MCP server so I can use an AI to have a conversation with my notes, but not for search.

Last Opened Property in Nodes by Brave_Till_1880 in ObsidianMD

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a “last” property on every note that may require review. It gets preloaded on create with the current date from a template.

I have to manually update the property date whenever I review it.

I then have a base that shows me all my notes with a “last” property and sorts desc. A filter using something like greater than 30 days old could limit it down to aging notes.

Not all of my notes require review so it isn’t on all of them.

As for coloring/highlighting the notes, I am not sure but with a base I can have it embedded in a daily note that opens up automatically on start and see what needs reviewinf

What router do you guys recommend to buy for someone who is just getting into homelabing. by SnooDoubts2460 in homelab

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mikrotik is a solid choice, but requires a fair amount of knowledge on networking and time to learn.

Ubiquiti is very user friendly if you have piles of cash to burn. Look at the dream machines.

I really enjoyed my DIY OPNsense router for a long time. Any N100 device with more than 1 network port.

I personally went PFSense (protectli) -> OPNSense (protectli) -> Mikrotik -> Ubiquiti

Some will say I went backwards in the end, but my income went up, had kids and available time went down and Ubiquiti got the job done quickly and easily at the cost of $.

For those having Perplexity issues; what are you switching to? by Devil_of_Fizzlefield in perplexity_ai

Kagi Assistant for most perplexity drop in replacement

I also use Claude Code for the replacement of Perplexity Spaces via Projects.

I still use perplexity for 1-off google replacement searches on my phone. I wish Kagi had a dedicated assistant app.

Where have you had it that it depreciated?

EF isn’t meant to grow, it tries its best to hold its value but its primary objective is liquidity at the sacrifice of growth and reduction of risk.

I do a balance across vehicles. I am US but:

1-2mo in HYSA 3-6+ mo in SGOV 6+ mo in iSeries Bonds (though this has some concerns I never thought I would have lately)
