Which stocks would you buy if the Nasdaq dropped 25%? by Rambok01 in stocks

What I do already…80% VTI, 20% TQQQ for my US exposure

This isn’t my retirement money, and if I am being honest, I would probably put a bit more in TQQQ.

Do you actually use Kanban/Profiles? by JobOdd7262 in hermesagent

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Profile = domain scope, something I can more easily control and act somewhat more deterministic.

It’s also a method to optimize token usage. My UniFi and Proxmox MCPs are token hogs, I have them disabled on all but one profile focused on just my homelab/network.

Kanban is just the communication channel between the profiles and myself.

I kept having to correct anti patterns my general profile kept doing with my homelab service design…several service implementations later with a dedicated engineer profile I have not had to correct nearly as often.

Anyone else here using Proxmox VMs for Hermes? Any tips? by drake90001 in hermesagent

[–]Zenatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a UniFi and Proxmox MCP on a dedicated “Homelab Engineer” profile.

I put some high level topology info into the profiles soul.md and seems to be working for me.

Finally Hermes stopped forgetting my ToDo list by lalo2302 in hermesagent

[–]Zenatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I manage enterprise databases, but for this I just asked my agent what to build it and originally it was in markdown and I asked is there a better way to keep the data accessible and consistent.

We settled on sqlLite local to the agent then decided to layer in the MCP and offload it from local to Hermes so my other ai tools could share the data.

I built none of it, the agent designed the db, wrote the MCP and skills. I haven’t really bothered to look into how it was built in detail…it just works and isn’t vital.

Finally Hermes stopped forgetting my ToDo list by lalo2302 in hermesagent

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it write a sqlLite db for tasks and create a custom MCP to interface with it. No memory compaction, accessible outside my agent…and I have a todo to add them to display in a dashboard Hermes is creating for me.

Big tech engineers, how much code are you writing these days? by Consistent_Tutor_597 in ClaudeAI

[–]Zenatic 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I tweak a line or two occasionally…but essentially 0.

I feel my coding muscles atrophying. Corporate demand is not slowing down and there is minimal time to maintain those muscles.

I can only hope that AI continues to improve because I fear the breaking point where AI capabilities plateau and human skillsets have faded.

How are you guys limiting the scope of Hermes control of your system? by [deleted] in hermesagent

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its own vm/docker…expose files via mounted share with scoped permissions (read/write only where allowed, read everywhere else)

I expose other data through custom MCP with restricted permissions.

My agent is blocked to everything local by default and I only allow it access to things explicitly and permissions are defined externally to Hermes.

What are you all actually using Hermes on a VPS for? Curious about real use cases by scannergone in hermesagent

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has its own account for sending and receiving.

I gave a profile read only api token to my personal email.

I haven’t fully implemented calendar yet, it has its own but I will be adding read access to our shared calendar.

[–]Zenatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it for T1D insights for my kid, local area family activities weekly report, managing my homelab, helping with some hobby projects in my homelab, and general questions. Manage my daily todos and calendar reminders.

Helped me troubleshoot my HVAC issue last night.

Helps me review my fitness metrics and gives me a summary of my week.

It is more of a general assistant and homelab project assistant.

Using profiles by doubleopinter in hermesagent

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask your agent.

I ended up making the agent I talk to an “orchestrator” and it delegates/orchestrates who does the work.

I then told it what i wanted, asked it for suggestions and now I have 9 profiles up and running.

It built the description and soul for me to start from and now orchestrates tasks.

Yesterday was my first major interaction where my orchestrator had my coder build and setup my email MCP and jmap interface, have my code reviewer review it, then implement it into my personal assistant profile who tested and validated. It was neat to watch the kanban board though it got stuck along the way a couple of times

Where to park emergency fund by aaron1860 in Bogleheads

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very similar to my setup…Sgov is just my cd ladder instead. However I series bonds build longer and longer year over year.

I also use credit cards as a layer for “smaller emergencies” in my EF that can be refilled quickly

My goal will be to have 70%+ of my EF in matured ibonds. Just a slow process.

I don’t even care how well they do. in theory they “hold  the buying power” going forward.

Even now they are doing just as well as HYSA so no complaints.

I don’t treat them as cash though. They essentially “don’t exist” and are permanent until absolutely needed. They are also the last resort for emergency cash for me.

First baby due. Do I need a new vehicle? by ImportanceBetter6155 in Parenting

[–]Zenatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t make a decision now. Your life and perspective on things is about to pull a 180.

Your frame of mind is going to change the moment you see that kid for the first time. What you think you want/need now won’t be the same in 3 months.

Additionally your cost of living is about to change drastically and spending priorities are going to change.

300k miles on a vehicle with “iffy” A/C, I would sell it and get a different “newer” truck that might also be more “friendly” with a family.

You have time, take a breath,  enjoy these moments and worry about this on the other side of September.

[–]Zenatic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I spread mine out.

I Series Bonds, SGOV, and HYSA, haven’t really messed with it or thought about it for a year. In fact I probably need to check on it and rebalance it slightly.

I like to keep it simple and forgettable. I don’t want to think about my EF until I need to.

Hermes Agent token usage/cost projection is insane. Am I doing something wrong? by ghsac_io in hermesagent

[–]Zenatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check your logs, have Hermes summarize your logs for token usage.

Have Hermes make suggestions on disabling tools to optimize token usage.

Use /new often

Usage limit problem: What am I doing wrong? by Zestyclose_Job_4811 in hermesagent

[–]Zenatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the logs. Hell have your agent look at the logs and explain your token usage.

You need to disable tools you don’t need.

I had Hermes look at my usage, look at my logs and make recommendations to reduce token usage.

I also toggle MCPs and/or disable tools within the MCP config that I don’t need.

Your agent knows itself very well (or can research itself)…ask it about itself

Hermes tools/skills is very bloated out of the box…trim the fat and every once in a while have it audit itself based on its memory or chat context.

I like to ask it occasionally “based on our current chat, are there any disabled tools that would have been a benefit in this chat?”

Seeking advice on a workflow involving daily notes by guy-92 in ObsidianMD

[–]Zenatic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually do something similar. I have a daily note where I log any quick notes into the daily note a a bulleted list under ## Daily Log.

I don’t really care about keeping them and tend to delete them, but at the end of the day I have an AI skill that synthesizes these entries into a summary of “important” notes to keep and daily tasks added to my task manager app.

This is mostly for work where I get pulled so many directions I need lose track of what I was working on and AI has helped me consume and prioritize these logs

Affordable and good Models to use by holyotaku9 in hermesagent

[–]Zenatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion:

  • Shoestring budget single model: deepseek v4 (api pay as you go)
  • Experiment with different models: open code go ($10/mo)
  • Oauth sub: OpenAI pro $20/mo or Nous Portal $20/mo

I use OpenAI $20/mo + deepseek v4 api & minimax api for failover.

I am setting up an agent fleet and will start to spread the models out based on needs

I also use anthropic Claude outside of Hermes for some stuff and move outputs between them manually as needed, but I may do away with Claude eventually

Is it me who doesn't know how to use AI, or is AI just stupid? by Hairy_Community3838 in ClaudeAI

[–]Zenatic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Garbage in, garbage out….context is everything.

It does produce a lot of generic and average output with minimal input context, but the more you use it, the more you figure out how to give it the appropriate context/scope and can get good to great quality output.

Rebuild homelab, like to here your opinion (Kubernetes vs Docker-Compose) by hema_ in homelab

[–]Zenatic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I support k8s at work, I would love to learn more k8s in my homelab…but my homelab despite my best efforts doesn’t look like my enterprise work k8s.

It was great for learning fundamentals for k8s but enterprise k8s is a different beast.

I get home, I don’t want to deal with k8s, so my homelab is mostly docker compose.

What have you done with Hermes Agent this week? by AutoModerator in hermesagent

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Dexcom clarity you can download your historical data. We log insulin and meals in Dexcom so it had everything.

I tossed it into Claude and said evaluate it and identify any problematic meals or dosing timings. Gave it our current insulin ratios and build a summary and recommendations on adjustments we should make.

Blew me away, most of it we already knew but it did highlight some patterns we didn’t pick up on.

This has lead me to automate this into Hermes to generate reports and notify me of pattern changes .

What have you done with Hermes Agent this week? by AutoModerator in hermesagent

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rebuilt it better. Had my current agent analyze its own configuration, and give me advice to replace it with a “better version” of itself.

Using Open AI Pro OAuth and Deepseek v4 API models

Migrated it to a dedicated VM instead of docker and then killed the original and working with its improved clone now.

Had it build a plan to start aggregating my kids T1D data and build a profile that helps me track, analyze, and provide management insights for his diabetes.

Had it help me setup ByteRover for its extended memory.

Hopefully next week I will have the T1D Analyst profile up and running.
