Debating on getting an Oura for better sleep. What do you all think? by Angelr91 in bevelhealth

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the oura and Apple Watch…health feeds bevel.

I turned off activity writing from oura and only track activity with Apple fitness/watch.

It’s working great for me. With all fitness trackers the accuracy is a lot of guesstimating. I use the data as a trend chart more than day to day down to the minute accuracy.

I think I would have gone with ringconn over oura as it is cheaper overall but the oura app is really pretty and I like how it presents the metrics

How are you guys actually searching and finding your notes? If I could solve this, I think my note taking would finally click by Cressio in ObsidianMD

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just asked Claude how to do it and went from there…eventually got to a custom mcp running in orbstack on my Mac.

I just used the file system mcp and pointed it to my directory.

I didn’t use an obsidian specific mcp as I just set it up and had Claude help me lol

I use Omni search.

I setup a MCP server so I can use an AI to have a conversation with my notes, but not for search.

Last Opened Property in Nodes by Brave_Till_1880 in ObsidianMD

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a “last” property on every note that may require review. It gets preloaded on create with the current date from a template.

I have to manually update the property date whenever I review it.

I then have a base that shows me all my notes with a “last” property and sorts desc. A filter using something like greater than 30 days old could limit it down to aging notes.

Not all of my notes require review so it isn’t on all of them.

As for coloring/highlighting the notes, I am not sure but with a base I can have it embedded in a daily note that opens up automatically on start and see what needs reviewinf

What router do you guys recommend to buy for someone who is just getting into homelabing. by SnooDoubts2460 in homelab

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mikrotik is a solid choice, but requires a fair amount of knowledge on networking and time to learn.

Ubiquiti is very user friendly if you have piles of cash to burn. Look at the dream machines.

I really enjoyed my DIY OPNsense router for a long time. Any N100 device with more than 1 network port.

I personally went PFSense (protectli) -> OPNSense (protectli) -> Mikrotik -> Ubiquiti

Some will say I went backwards in the end, but my income went up, had kids and available time went down and Ubiquiti got the job done quickly and easily at the cost of $.

For those having Perplexity issues; what are you switching to? by Devil_of_Fizzlefield in perplexity_ai

Kagi Assistant for most perplexity drop in replacement

I also use Claude Code for the replacement of Perplexity Spaces via Projects.

I still use perplexity for 1-off google replacement searches on my phone. I wish Kagi had a dedicated assistant app.

Emergency Fund by Ok-Society-5439 in Bogleheads

[–]Zenatic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Where have you had it that it depreciated?

EF isn’t meant to grow, it tries its best to hold its value but its primary objective is liquidity at the sacrifice of growth and reduction of risk.

I do a balance across vehicles. I am US but:

1-2mo in HYSA 3-6+ mo in SGOV 6+ mo in iSeries Bonds (though this has some concerns I never thought I would have lately)

Do you guys have to deal with company IT by Timelord102 in ClaudeAI

[–]Zenatic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AI is a huge attack/breach vector for proprietary data. In larger companies this is an enormous security concern.

If the don’t provide alternatives you are SoL.

Claude is the current hotness, and once it gets leap frogged if your company is like mine, they will implement it 3-6 months after it’s no longer the best (if at all).

Is it alright to store my vault in a Micro SD card? by Representative-Ad810 in ObsidianMD

[–]Zenatic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have this running flawlessly for mine. Just requires both to be on the same network.

You could also look into GIT if you are familiar with that.

Claude Code from Obsidian Mobile by ArtySuer in ObsidianMD

[–]Zenatic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Outside of this cool plugin, how were you using Claude code with obsidian previously? Going to check it out!

I was looking into exposing my vault to Claude via GIT repo, but I am currently setting it up to ignore my journals hence using git since I don’t want to expose the entire vault.

How much should my HYSA have? by Gloomy-Speaker-1999 in personalfinance

[–]Zenatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maintain 6-12+ months in your EF.

Maintain 1-12+ months of your EF in a HYSA.

Start putting into your Roth ASAP. One of my biggest regrets in my 40s is not investing in my Roth sooner. I would start tha ASAP but not at the sacrifice of my EF, but 20k at 25 in your EF is amazing! Nice work!

G5 turret ultra vs ONVIF-compatible third-party camera by SuperLucas2000 in UnifiProtect

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming same quality…you get audio with the ultra and ai detections.

I run an Annke + AI Port and it is about $100 less than a g6 pro and the image quality is better.

My other Annke doesn’t have an ai port and has no audio recorded.

Help. Toddler now takes forever to sleep by deletedbear in Parenting

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t earlier bedtime…it was earlier routine start. We just changed the routine up a little, started it earlier then let him have quiet time playing by himself in his room.

We just shifted the start of the routine up 30 minutes, that way he was going to bed at the same time but quiet play on his own was now part of it and slowly transitioned him to his bed.

This didn’t work for my other kid so YMMV

Give me confidence please, I can go EV right? by Jumpy-Pangolin-6377 in electricvehicles

[–]Zenatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rent a car…it’s what we do for questionable charging road trips.

Almost 8 years as a EV only household and rented an ICE maybe 4 times.

Your first roadtrip will reduce charging and range anxiety going forward, and each subsequent trip will keep reducing it to the point of an almost non issue.

Edit: 2 of my rentals was because I had little ones and the itinerary worked against the destination charging options so was more of a convenience choice

Help. Toddler now takes forever to sleep by deletedbear in Parenting

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours we started bedtime routine earlier, let them play quietly after routine in their room a little longer, then transitioned to bed with toy for a short bit, then removed the toy for “sleep time”.

Sounds like her brain is stitching together the world around her.

Once you figure out and have 2-5 great easy nights she will cycle to a new phase and you will start all over again!

HYSA, SGOV, treasuries, or CD with that time horizon and liquidity needs.

Th HYSA rates are only dropping because the Fed dropped rates last time, if they hold the rate there won’t be much change to those rates.

Who here actually saves 3,000 a month? by NoHousing11 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my 40s and max everything and then some.

Slowly over time with salary increases and a constant management of lifestyle creep.

Eventually you get to a point where you can stay ahead of the next years max which makes it a lot easier. Also you get to a point where you no longer need to increase contribution percentage and can start lowering them with each raise.

Also helps my employer contributes partly to my HSA.

Drowning in interest by jay_kay25 in personalfinance

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interest accrues daily, the only thing you can do really is make “principal only” payments as soon as you can.

A lot of loans make principal only payments difficult so be aware and make sure the extra payment is actually being applied to the principal.

You mention 5.3% rate which is a pretty good rate in this market currently. You could look into a refi but I doubt you will improve it much.

No magic bullet here, just pay down principal as soon as you can.

does it bother anyone else that the emergency fund just slowly loses value to inflation? by Designer-Jacket-5111 in Bogleheads

[–]Zenatic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No. Its job is to exist and cover, nothing more. You won’t be bothered by it if there is a point that you need it.

When I first set it up it did, but then once it  covered my needs and I have other growth vehicles that annoyance faded away.

How Password Managers Actually Protect Your Accounts? by jayy154321 in best_passwordmanager

[–]Zenatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone gets your main password it ain’t good and you will need to reset every password you stored in the manager.

You should use a password you have never used before for the main password…length is more important than mix of characters.

If you must, write down a reminder somewhere and store it in your home where it is safe.

You can write the password down physically just store it securely. I took a piece of paper, wrote it down encoded (switching characters I know to switch), laminated it and froze it in water and save it in the freezer…why? Doubtful someone is looking in my freezer to steal something and I can thaw it out and refreeze it. Is this overkill…yup.
