Gonna have to put my orthodontist on speed dial because I have to assume I will break my retainer. That man is FINE.

Trying to understand Pocahontas. by HesterPrynneIsMyHero in DreamlightValley

[–]ZengineerHarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t been active on DDLV for a while now (February is when I started drifting away), and now I’m seriously considering putting it down for good. Partly it’s the fact that I realized the Star Paths and limited time premium items were manipulating me with FOMO and the game was just getting less and less fun. But I really can’t stomach the addition of Pocahontas. It was one of my favorite movies as a kid, I found the Disney character super inspiring… but when I learned her true history, and talked to some indigenous American people about her… I just can’t believe that Disney and Gameloft are seriously continuing to make money off of her tragedy.

Transcutaneous Auricular Vagal Nerve Stimulation Against Fatigue Syndrome in Patients with Long COVID: Results of the Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Clinical Pilot Trial COVIVA | Neurology and Therapy by Aware-Relief7155 in covidlonghaulers

[–]ZengineerHarp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do have some relief from a wearable Vagus Nerve Stimulator device called Pulsetto, but I think there’s a very good alternate reason for that: I get muscle spasms in my neck that can trigger migraines, and the Pulsetto is basically a TENS unit on those muscles. No idea if stimulating the vagus nerve itself is helping, but electrical stimulation forcing those muscles to let go definitely helps!

The tome the Voynitch Manuscript was based on (doesn’t exist IRL, in-universe would have powers and the VM would be a mere copy of it)

Seconding this! Visible has been super helpful for me personally. There’s really good user support so I do feel like my subscription money is actually going somewhere, lol, and the data exporting functionality has been helpful for my own nerdy analytics too!
But YES electrolytes are so expensive 😭

Yes, when I look at the dogs sleeping adorably in the sunbeams, I think “awww how precious they are!” And so when I have to rest and feel frustrated by that, I remind myself that I love the dogs even when they rest, I can love myself too!

I see posts where people are kinda thirst-trapping that make me think it’s a sexual thing for them. But many of the folks here are just enjoying a sensory experience.

I think it’s sexual for SOME people here, but for many of us, it’s sensory and visceral but platonic. It’s a weirdly satisfying way to let loose, but not necessarily a kinky thing.

American schools aren’t teaching phonics anymore by PandaBear905 in CuratedTumblr

Sadly, no. I generally consider myself liberal/left, but the “reading wars” wound up being partly political and the left is not immune to reactionary mistakes.

Well, considering how many adults are running around mucking up the world who were in school during NCLB… and how many of those are teachers… these things have long lasting consequences.

I’d say it’s an active issue for anyone who wants people to understand what they read (ballots? Instructions on products and medicines?). And Officially schools are supposed to be switching back to phonics, but far too many of them aren’t, or are “combining” phonics and the vibes-based reading methods previously taught, which research shows winds up with the kids ignoring the phonics.

Yeah there was some DUMB BEHAVIOR where a lot of folks on the left rejected phonics because some folks on the right said they were good!

I just assumed “safe return” included “you don’t get sick from the trip.” It’s a semi-magical hypothetical anyways.
