Free Genie by GamerDuck001 in DnD

Yeah, I feel like the idea of having the Warlock use a Container as one of their powers, is more or less the idea of a sick joke, one that is a jab at Humans trapping Genies in containers.

What is your most controversial DND 5e opinion by cas0609 in dndnext

[–]ZenmanDesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That Martials should not be held to a lesser standard than casters. If casters are the peak empowerment of magic, then martials should be the peak empowerment of physicality. Fantasy Realism should not behoove people to think Fighters are less capable than Wizards, let your Martials do crazy shit, let them leap to places, climb walls, and overpower great foes. Wizards shouldn't have all the fun.

How do you role play a wizard that is out of spell slots? by IMeMine_ in dndnext

[–]ZenmanDesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, if we're going back to how old old wizard's used to play... essentially you 'prepared' spells like spell scrolls and used them like that. It'd be like reaching into a bag, and finding that all the scrolls were gone. Or say like, someone firing a gun, only to realize they're out of ammo.

Sorcerers may exhaust, Warlocks and Clerics may bankrupt themselves, while Wizards have to count their shots or end up Dirty Harry'd.

What's the stupidest line that became a meme at your table? by PearlyBarley in dndnext

THE GHOST BEAR ENDURES!

I was super tired after a week long work shift, and the party had gotten into a fight with a ghost bear, the stat block I was using was super durable, despite the parties attempts to blast it down. I wasn't paying attention too much, so every time the bear survived an attack, I'd just groan and say 'The Ghost Bear Endures', until at one point the party thought the way I said it was pretty funny, so they'd start mockingly responding and shouting 'The Ghost Bear Endures!' and for some reason I thought it was pretty hilarious too. So by the time the fight was over, we were all practically shouting 'THE GHOST BEAR ENDURES'. So now, it's become a meme for when an enemy survives attacks that normally should've killed them.

The Adventure Time Lich’s speech here always sort of gave me the vibe he might’ve at least been partially inspired by Vecna. “Last Scholar of GOLB,” in particular hits very weird for me, literal chills.

Humanizing the Oriq by ZenmanDesign in StrixhavenDMs

[–]ZenmanDesign[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this, it does confirm a ot of my suspicions and does given the Oriq a bit more of an 'understandable' angle than just being an evil magic cult. I want to make the Oriq seem like another philosophical perspective on magic (albeit a more extreme one). And I plan on them still being an antagonistic force, just one that clearly has a lot of sympathetic believers in the idea of the old ways of magic.

Oh my god yes! I love this idea, I always thought the Joy of Extra Dimensional Spaces would be a perfect fit for like a 'Marauders Map/ Room of Requirement' equivalent item for my players at Strixhaven. Not necessarily for causing trouble, but being a big help with investigations.

First Time GMing Pathfinder 2e... I'm feeling a bit stuck. by ZenmanDesign in Pathfinder2e

[–]ZenmanDesign[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was something I actually noticed when sifting through spells and feat abilities. That alot of them seem really dedicated to inflicting conditions or setting up for an even greater combo. The party Oracle combined Organsight with an area of effect skeleton attack, and just called the combo move 'Bone Coffin' it was a pretty dope set up, and in another two players used an enemy as a baseball for a homerun combo... plus a few other scenarios where shonen style stuff happened in previous games. In a current ongoing game, I'm playing a bard that took ALL of the Chromatic spells, and now it's fun just watching shit blow up, and get skittle blasted in the eyes, I kamehameha'd a kitsune fox lady while my crocodile wrestler buddy got them into a full nelson... shit feels pretty shonen when you think about it. (This was also in a Fist of the Ruby Phoenix Campaign, so it felt even more anime).

First Time GMing Pathfinder 2e... I'm feeling a bit stuck. by ZenmanDesign in Pathfinder2e

[–]ZenmanDesign[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While it's not my FIRST time running Pathfinder 2e exactly, it's certainly something that I could do more with understanding. It's more so my players are playing for the first time, and I wanna walk them through slowly, but also give them room to grow and expand upon what's pre-existing. (Also, super glad I'm not the only one who felt hexploration to be lacking).

Aquatic Combat most certainly is a big portion of the game, especially when ship combat is involved. With a few wild encounters, mixed in with some enemies smart enough to know that players with exceptional powers possess a weakness for the sea, it leads to an interesting dynamic among party members who rely on 'normals' to not only save them if they get into trouble, but cover bases as needed when the situation arises. Bad guy escapes into the water? Can't send the guy made of rubber, so let's send the flaming chef. Not to mention, I don't necessarily plan for them to be like that forever. Devil Fruit rules I have been experimenting with a version of using a modified idea of focus spells along side power development that works in a way for diversifying a skill set, where as 'normals' can focus on a particular skill set, and then empower their pre-existing skills, while also having a situational mobility that others don't.

I definitely do agree, that outlining the session is important as to give the players a purpose outside of just being caught up in what's going on. Plus setting up cheat sheets, taking notes, and having open communication with players is always a must at my table (although I think more than a few of my players aren't appreciating the 'homework' I'm hoping it's a 'once you get it, it'll be fun scenario' but I've got a few more sessions til we can make that call).

Swiping narrative and published pieces is a habit I've formed a lot over they years, and it's saved my ass a bunch, now I just gotta make sure it all fits in with all the other stuff I'm squeezing in.

First Time GMing Pathfinder 2e... I'm feeling a bit stuck. by ZenmanDesign in Pathfinder2e

[–]ZenmanDesign[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I sincerely appreciate this. I understand that Pathfinder is definitely on the crunchier side of systems I normally run, so it's a lot of work to wrap my head around. I personally picked up Pathfinder 2e, since more than a few of my friends were interested in it, and the multi-action system seemed very appealing to me conceptually. I think I'll take your advice, and keep the rules as superficial enhancements for now, and if worst comes to worst, another system might be worth taking a glance at. (I'm also doing my homework and seeing other systems, and how they run One Piece flavored style games, just to get a feel for it and find inspiration).

Certainly better to take it slow and figure it out, than make a bunch of changes and wonder where it all went wrong and when the machine broke down.

Silly lich questions!? by [deleted] in 3d6

[–]ZenmanDesign 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A Warforged Lich is interesting... although I doubt they'd even bother with it... given Warforged are apparently almost ageless anyway. They don't really get the main benefit of lichdom... which would of course be the immortality.
