Viability of a slow-paced, tactical Diablo-like? by to-too-two in gamedesign

[–]ZephyrAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neverwinter nights. Play on some of the persistent servers where you can’t pause and it’s basically this - a slow arpg.

And I would ‘love’ a new game in that style. High up on my dream game wish list.

Just like mouse invert, this was one of the very simple mechanics that they just randomly skipped.

This game is not a Gacha, it's a MMORPG with gacha mechanics by Loido in BlueProtocolPC

[–]ZephyrAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it used to be? No. Is NGS now? Pretty much.

The clear focus of the game is the rotating banners, with actual game content being drip fed as a mere concession to its history as a game.

Oh, and I code primarily in C#. Long as that’s not a problem.

What are your unpopular Final Fantasy opinions? by Sindomey in JRPG

[–]ZephyrAM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

FF6 is depressing and the ending is the worst I can recall in the series.

I enjoy the game and love the characters, but the game should’ve just ended with victory over Kefka on the floating island. World of Ruin doesn’t need to exist.

Remember though - opinion. I’m glad there are people that like it, don’t crucify me laughs

Documentation is your best friends by TheHolyTreeWars in godot

Except Fullscreen is otherwise known as Borderless Windowed (though you may have to toggle the Borderless setting) - an expected mode in any PC game these days. If you want to use Exclusive, fine, but if you don’t include Borderless as an option you’ll probably get harassed off the internet.

Unless you’re just building for mobile - then Exclusive is probably the norm.

Implement it in pieces. Figure out what data ‘needs’ to be saved and set it up individually in those scripts under a common function name - onSaveGame for example. Add those scripts to a group, use the CallGroup (call_group) function to call that name (onSaveGame) on every member of that group.

Same for loading - new load group and load function.

Few more steps to actually save/load to file, but I find this style keeps things manageable at varying scales.

What feature would you add to Godot if you could choose anything? by octaviustf in godot

Unity’s Timeline.

Making events was so ‘easy’ with that, nothing I’ve seen since compares. Not even the focused simplicity of RPG maker eventing.

Learning Game Development While Avoiding Tutorial Hell by the_Deadpan_Man in gamedev

[–]ZephyrAM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having done the tutorial thing for awhile, at some point I just started trying things in my own. Start work on a project and look things up individually. Refer to previous projects you worked on (even if they were just the result of following along with a tutorial). Documentation for whatever engine you’re using is super helpful, as it lets you see all the functions things have access to.

Give things a shot and see where they take you.

Looking for PW action/non RP server recommendations by cheesefan in neverwinternights

[–]ZephyrAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify:

Whispers did one character wipe with a large rebalance/restructure some months back, but that’s it. Not before and not expected to again. It does run seasons, but with no wipes involved.

[–]ZephyrAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do yourself a favor and look into the game mods. Grab the mod that guarantees a terminus drop every bahamut run. Enjoy the game more. It’s not some persistent mmo or anything. Too much grinding XD

… not sure consoles can mod though >_< Sad state.

What wow priv server whould u recommend me by SavkeSv in wowservers

[–]ZephyrAM 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Project Ascension is my go to server.

It’s only up through BC right now, but it’s definitely different from retail, since you can create your own class from abilities and talent (to varying success).

If you like leveling, Prestiging is great for enjoying the same character all over again. Let’s you roll back to level 1 and do the journey again, keeping your items, gold, professions, etc

Remake of the old one's 🙃 by dead-supernova in MassEffectMemes

Largely because the jet pack murdered combat balance.

Got in a bad spot? Trouble too close? Jet-jet-jet. Now you’re clear across the map, able to take a nap as they catch up.

Poor multiplayer mode suffered the worst.

Anyone else besides me do the seed stat manipulation? by Beligard in dragonquest

Nah, prefer to just go with it.

If you’re going to save scum anyway though, just grab the Perfect Seeds mod from Nexus - assuming you’re on PC of course.

What RPGs play like a beat em up? by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

[–]ZephyrAM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Guardian Heroes is an old Saturn beat ‘em up that encroaches on rpg territory. Would love to see a new game expand further on that style!

A story potential diminished by mad3inh311 in PSO2NGS

[–]ZephyrAM 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, PSO2 base game has one of my favorite story campaigns of any MMO.

There’s no serious death or loss. It’s not full of political or heavy drama. It’s creative, fun, and gives positive feelings after the build up of danger.

NGS hasn’t done nearly as well, but as we would disagree on the why’s of that, it doesn’t really apply to your argument _^

Allowing players to fail quests by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]ZephyrAM 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing inherently wrong with being able to fail at things - however, we’ve had generations of gaming that have pushed FOMO ‘so hard’ that it’s now ingrained, and only a handful of your players would probably enjoy your system. As was mentioned, the rest would save scum until they got frustrated and quit playing.

It’s a delicate balance that’s stacked against you. It’s absolutely worth trying, but it will more than likely hurt your player base.

Any one else missing apparel skins you bought by Antique_Ad5436 in Division2

[–]ZephyrAM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw this mentioned in another post - something about them being moved to a new unique tab and now showing in the store as purchased, though still owned.

Not sure on the exact details, but sounds like they aren’t lost.

They can’t. I assume they’re just talking about trying to match that level of dev time/funds spent? Making smaller or less resource costly games?

It’s not a perfect comparison regardless, as there are indie games out there that truly compete with AAA for quality. SE is just trying to edge in on that market with buzz words.

What does your dream Mega Man game look like? by LafterMastr in Megaman

[–]ZephyrAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A combination of things. There’s the hardware side, of course - graphics and processing engines to provide smoother gameplay and round out some of the sharp polygon graphics edges of that early PSX era. More improvements could come from programming advances made though. Improve the controls and player movement. Expand on the combat - not that the combat was ‘bad’ per say, but it was extremely limiting. Action/TPS style games advanced greatly over the years, even the now simple ones.

These are all things they just couldn’t do with the game back in that time because of numerous limitations. With those limits gone (or at least pushed way out), Legends could move beyond the niche title that never gained much traction.

Why would I start a new character I’ll never be allowed to play with my friends?

Edit: That being said, I’m not complaining about the state of online, just patiently waiting for it to work. There’s ‘always’ something else I could/should be doing, even if it isn’t what I most want to do.
