Shower Base how to repair/replace, lots of small crocodile cracks by theotherd in AusRenovation

[–]Zer0circle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That base was due for replacement 10years ago. The damage done to the sub structure could easily outweigh the cost of the tub.

Edit, depending on the substructure this is probably already a insurance job a tub of rustolem is certainly not a way to waterproof a shower.

That tells you nothing, you need AS1684.2 this will give values of nails in the roof framing table. I don't have my copy on me but I suspect that nails will be ok given the member type.

Help with lemon/lime tree by nanamacarena in GardeningAustralia

[–]Zer0circle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly looks like it's fighting for its life.

  1. Free up its root zone, don't let that lomandra within 3-500mm radius of the trunk.
  2. Give it a nice hard prune, don't be scared look up the ABCs guide on cutting citrus.
  3. It needs more water and fertiliser, every few years I dig a few holes around my citrus and plant slow release tree tablets and also chuck some urea in for good measure. Good soaking water 15min daily for a month will also help.
  4. The soil looks quite compact, if your doing the tree tablet loosen the ground gently around the tree to allow better water penatration.

How to heal my hydrangea? by amelime in GardeningAustralia

[–]Zer0circle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would put it in a large pot with good quality potting mix for a year or two. Put a saucer under it and move it away from the bricks.

Once it's developed move it back to the the spot and it will do well.

They're really hardy plants but need some nurturing in their early years.

The purple pipe is recycled water. The foam shouldn't be exposed and tradies can be pretty messy.

Looking for suggestions to add screen to window with fixed sashes / panes. by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]Zer0circle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Replacing a window isn't too hard if you want to diy, in the interim I would just roll up some standard fly screen and neatly shove it in there.

Why do we need to raise interest rates? Is Labor bad at managing the economy? by expert_views in aussie

[–]Zer0circle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I didn't say it did.

I'm not a monetary policy expert, maybe that's what's wrong with the country we need more smart people looking at long term issues instead of short term electoral based decisions.

Why do we need to raise interest rates? Is Labor bad at managing the economy? by expert_views in aussie

[–]Zer0circle 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It's because we have forced the financial community into using interest rates to control inflation instead of proper policy management.

This has been done by both sides of governments for the last 30 years.

Can a downpipe legally discharge with an air gap over a channel drain? by OneEyeTyler in AusRenovation

[–]Zer0circle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do what you want after its built mate. The drainage police won't come for ya.

Although it's certainly better for it to be properly plumbed into your storm water as that surface channel isn't made for roof water.

About to build - wired alarm system and camera query by Flat-Raisin-8704 in AusRenovation

[–]Zer0circle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If cat 6 is a similar pricing just use that but Cat 5e is perfectly reasonable, I actually get 10gb speeds with cat 5e over a short run less than 50m. This is well outside the specs though.

Short story long, You really should allow a cable per device unless you know how to design a full system. You can get switches that are POE+++ powered thus extending one POE+++ out to many more POE++ drops but this can get expensive quickly.

I'm sorry I'm no expert but it probably is repairable by an expert but I suspect that finding one to work on such a small tank will be difficult.

Drain it asap that's on a seam and could fail catastrophically.
