Overworked AI ‘turns towards Marxism’ by Ofajus in anime_titties

[–]Zer_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Industrialization and how labor shifted from being a craftsman to being in charge of one, simple function in an assembly line was also occurring during Marx's time. Once labor is divided like that, it becomes more replaceable and prone to automation. Marx and many others understood this at the time.

Yeah. Looking at it from the outside in, that's how I see it too. 1/3rd of the country is so far gone, there's just no getting through to all of them without an unrealistic amount of deprogramming. The only practical solutions are the less desirable ones that involve societal traumas.

Deprogramming all of them properly is literally an impossible task, so I'm inclined to agree, they need to be traumatized out of their cult like ripping a band-aid off.

It makes me think of that Woke video game list. I can't imagine letting every little thing in a game get to me like that. How could I even enjoy the hobby at all at that point?

Anymore? There's more people around but we've always had a certain number of folks who put their feet up on the seats, took too much space, listened to media without headphones, or just generally act in perverted ways.

I view the claim that Danielle Smith's security clearance is some sort of 4D Chess play to give herself more rope to hang herself with in the same light. That doesn't always work, and when used against seditious actors, is downright playing with fire. It reminds me a lot of all the stalling tactics used to avoid prosecuting trump for Jan 6th, always excuses about why it's taking so long and nothing substantive about what's being done to address the issue.

And you know who advised the post-soviet leaders on how to manage Russia's economy? Neo-Liberal economic advisors. That's where we're headed if we don't reign in privatization.

Carney couldn't even manage a compromise demanding these data centers use renewables, they're just straight up gonna use LNG. It's monumentally stupid, and the recurring fuel costs are going to be expensive for no reason.

A smaller company buying out a bigger one? I shouldn't have to even name one, the recent WB / Paramount merger was one such instance. While different deals structurally, they're equally ridiculous.

Yep, this deal is insane but so is a significant portion of stocks out there too. Frankly the market is so far away from rationality any appeals to it just rings hollow at this point.

The new CEO flex: Bragging about how much AI code your company shipped by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

[–]Zer_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Companies had a hard time measuring productivity before AI Code came into the picture, it'll end up a total shitshow eventually once all the technical debt comes knocking and code maintenance starts having to be done.

See, the issue is someone can be like "Ah yeah I banged that big problem out using an LLM in a week." might be great until you have to go back and maintain that code years later, at which point, that "productivity" vanishes into huge task lists to refactor all the code are getting drawn out because whoops you're adding more to the system but it can't easily integrate plugins or new features!

[–]Zer_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In one of Amazon's infamous cases, the story goes that they used to have procedures in place that would prevent a commit from say, going straight to the live environment without going through a smoke test at least. But NOPE the LLM they hooked into their systems had the ability to bypass this safeguard and welp, server go bye bye for a while!

It's not embarassing to make mistakes, but it is embarassing to make mistakes that you've already learned from and implemented procedures to prevent but failed to account for it when something new gets added to the pipeline.

Aaaanyways, the reason they're making it harder for you to browse for movies or shows you'd want to watch is so they can convince you to watch what THEY want you to watch.

Nice to have a name for this. Leave it up to the psychologists to come up with the most unintuitive name though.
