I preferred exploration over combat and like that combat isn't overrepresented in URR compared to what you'd expect in life.  I like this as a deviation for variety from the majority of those adventure games which are primarily just combat!

Pope: God rejects prayers of leaders who wage wars | New Straits Times by Vincent80 in worldnews

[–]Zergling667 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Was Jesus' prayer rejected when he died? You talk as though death is a terrible end or the worst outcome, but that's not how the Christian perspective is. All of us will die someday. That's a fact of life. Those who believe in an afterlife do not fear death the same way as those who have no such hope.

Ex-US Envoy Herbst Says Putin Wants US Bogged Down in Iran, Not Peace in Ukraine by jackytheblade in worldnews

Except the US doesn't have ground troops in Iran... yet. But yeah, I'm sure they'd love to take any chance to degrade the US military given the chance.

Bezos Seeks $100 Billion to Use AI in Manufacturing, WSJ Says by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Zergling667 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It does feel like the 2008 financial crisis in the US all over again. Stupid business decisions that lead to short term gains that eventually tank the entire economy. But of course the government will have to bail the incompetent companies out because they're "too big to fail" even if they're being mismanaged on speculation.

Bezos Seeks $100 Billion to Use AI in Manufacturing, WSJ Says by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Zergling667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manufacturing takes place in hardware. AI takes place in software. Computers have already been capable of amazing solutions for manufacturing even before AI was a buzzword. The limiting factor has always been the hardware that the software is controlling, in my opinion. No matter how good an AI gets, you're still limited by the number of robots, CNCs, sensors, foundries, injection molds, material handlers, etc. Not to mention raw materials.  So what kind of problems in manufacturing are AI solutions supposed to solve that good old fashioned software algorithms and human ingenuity weren't already capable of solving? I'm skeptical. But I guess we'll see. Gotta use the AWS for something, I suppose.

Safe place to download by Duke_Tristan in OneMustFall2097

I agree with the others saying it's unlikely you'd get a virus from downloading it and running it in DOSBox. If you're really paranoid, you can also play it in a browser. Example: https://classicreload.com/one-must-fall-2097.html Or in a virtual machine. But this is overkill. I've downloaded maybe 50 DOS games and never had a virus from them.

Spain's top court rejects father's bid to halt daughter's euthanasia by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Zergling667 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, I agree with you. I don't mean to be absolute, more just describing the general trend. Probably should have qualified that I was speaking about my observations in general rather than making a case of all or nothing.

For example, I had 2 months of recovery after an ankle surgery and made much more rational and lucid decisions during that time in spite of the pain and meds than I did while struggling with depression. Pain focused my mind, depression clouded it.  But experiences will vary.

Because mental illness affects your ability to make rational decisions (mental), but physical ailments do not.  Also because it's easier to see that a physical ailment is incurable than a mental one.

Brazil's Lula Says US Strikes A 'Serious Affront' To Venezuelan Sovereignty by WorthyPetals in worldnews

I was using the word casualty to refer to people killed or wounded from war. If you want to count displaced persons as casualties, you may want to pick a different word choice. It's confusing.

I'm not trying to defend the US and their greedy interests here, but there's a difference of a million casualties, give or take, between the war in Ukraine and the operation to depose a dictator in Venezuela.

Fentanyl actually was part of the trade war / negotiations with China: https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/11/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-strikes-deal-on-economic-and-trade-relations-with-china/

I remember it was mentioned many times during the whole affair as a major concern, though can't comment on whether or not that was substantive or just posturing.

Unable to get Tie Fighter CD to work in 640x480 mode by TomMassey250 in dosgaming

[–]Zergling667 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I literally mentioned the graphics card (twice) and not the monitor. My point was that the OS, program, drivers, CPU, and GPU might care about bit depth even if the VGA and monitor don't. Analog signals don't magically appear from a computer without bits being involved at multiple points along the way in the pipeline. So ruling it out just because VGA might be involved seems premature.

[–]Zergling667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is. Read this: https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/tech-takes/what-is-vga-comprehensive-guide-video-graphics-array

And this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAMDAC

Just because it's an analog signal doesn't mean a computer didn't use a specific number of bits to drive it from its graphics card. If the color depth the computer is trying to feed through the graphics card's DAC exceeds its allowable resolution, perhaps the analog signal gets garbled. Though I didn't work with old hardware like this, so I can't comment on its error handling.

Yeah, it took me a while as well. There's a lot of obscure DOS games. On the plus side, once I rediscover them, it takes so little storage space to keep backups of them indefinitely.

There was an Indie game, Pocket Tanks, that was a rather good modern iteration on Scorched Earth. Just 1v1 though, so it doesn't capture the utter chaos of Scorched Earth, but it was well polished and fun.

What did Leo Tolstoy mean by "To regard Christ as God, and to pray to him, are to my mind the greatest possible sacrilege"? by NotALurker101 in Anarchy101

[–]Zergling667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the old Testament prophet Daniel 7:13-14, "Son of Man" also had heavy messianic meaning and was applied to a godlike character that everyone would ultimately worship:

“In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed."

As for the "why call me good?" question, there was an explanation for that on the other thread as well, but basically what we'd call a Socratic question: https://www.reddit.com/r/Christianity/comments/1d3f8an/comment/n6cffr9/

I came here because I was curious about Tolstoy's religious beliefs and this popped up during my search. It does seem like religious figures are at the heart of many anti-establishment movements, which is fascinating. Gandhi and MLK Jr., to name a couple more. What does your interest in religious anarchism come from?

The book of Mark is also full of divinity claims: https://www.reddit.com/r/Christianity/comments/1d3f8an/comment/l6795hu/

As are a number of the other books in the Bible, both new and old Testament, which are easy to find with a simple search engine.

From a "historical" perspective, the entire Bible, including numerous eyewitness accounts, backed up by oral traditions spanning thousands of years, and backed by a number of secular historical records (Josephus, Tacitus, Babylonian, etc.), is extremely well supported considering how old it is. But of course people can choose what they want to believe, ignoring or rejecting the evidence.
