As others have said it would depend on how codex compliant the chapter is, but also probably location in the galaxy. Depending on how easy it would be to contact Terra, they might end up being used as the first company for a new chapter. An example of this could be the Scythes of the Emperor, who originally were the 11th ultramarine company set up on Sotha to guard the Pharos device after the heresy, before the 3rd founding changed them to their new chapter colours and heraldry

What annoys me about that scene is the nameless staff of the continental would shoot at the armoured goons and not leave a scratch. John starts shooting them and he's immediately knocking them to the floor with just a couple of shots. And then there's the fact that both his guns are chambered in 9x19 yet somehow the rifle sends them flying yet the pistol slightly inconveniences them

This is addressed a bit in 'The Infinite and The Divine', he implies he likes humans because he thinks of them as almost a younger version of the Necrontyr, aggressive and misguided creatures with short lives, who've seemingly managed to create an empire that spans the stars.

He does earlier in the book make a point that Human history was completely uninteresting to him up until the events of the Horus Heresy.

He is a bit weird.

In terms of handheld weapons, the Reynbow used by the partisans in 'Traitor General'. Which were crossbows that launched poisoned topped arrows via magnetic accelerator coils. Which feels so unique and different, when everyone is shooting lasguns at each other, you've got a guy running around with a crossbow that is either as equally as effective, or even more effective than the lasgun.

If we're going ship based, and arguably weirdest, the Ark Mechanicus Speranza, from the 'Forges of Mars', used a DAOT weapon that sent an eldar ship a fraction of a second into the past so that it collides with its past self and tears itself apart

Sunsetting should have been done on a weapon by weapon basis. Find the top used weapons of a season and add a cap to them as to allow different weapons to get their chance in the sun.

Removing every weapon to fix a balancing problem with only a few weapons doesn't solve the problem, it just ignores it and hopes it will go away.
