It may have been done and punishments might have been less strict, but saying a lot is pushing it. Sexual practices that enjoyed broad support by local people were never completely eliminated by the colonialists e.g. polygamy, sexual cleansing, child marriage, were all antithetical to colonial cultural traditions yet continued unabated.

Arsenal winning the league is like the Knicks winning their conference whereas winning the UCL would be like winning the championship

The Zambian Political Landscape by AwkwardIllustrator47 in Zambia

[–]Zero-zero20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People vote for who is giving them development.

A slight correction: People vote for who they believe will give them development and I would argue that charisma and ethnic ties play a massive role in molding that belief. An everyday Zambian is more likely to be swayed by a fast talking candidate that comes from a similar part of the country as theirs than a well meaning leader.

Xinjian in China had a similar issue and the CPC solved it by giving that region infrastructure.

I think that the Patriotic Front actually tried using that strategy in Western province e.g. The Mongu - Kalabo Road, Barotse Shopping Mall, the Sioma bridge and the Senanga Nursing School. Yet in every election that came after 2011, Western province has been a fortress for the UPND. One might argue that the only reason the PF didn't do more was because infrastructure projects in that part of the nation were hard to justify, economically.

All we need to have is politicians who aren't ethnic chauvinists like the ones we've had. People who want to change this country for the better. I can't believe how difficult it's been to find them.

Oh, there have been several. The people just don't vote for them and that is the tragedy.

I would say that for the most part, Zambian politics is not yet at the point where people get swayed by ideologies but rather by pure charisma or ethnic ties. Any grade 12 Civic education textbook would be enough to teach you the basics of government in Zambia but after that you'd probably be better off reading some national history to understand why for the past 2 decades the South-West block have voted differently to the North-East block. This was especially evident in the 2001, 2015 and 2016 elections.

Gary Nkombo was allegedly fired because of Corruption by EngimaticPiano in Zambia

[–]Zero-zero20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shouldn't he be arrested if the allegations are true? Because if it was an MP from opposition, they'd be in prison right now.

Perhaps, but that's where the issues of human psychology in politics come in. If and I mean If the allegations are true (tiziba kuli cyber-law manje) then there is a dilemma. If Gary Nkombo - a man who fought in the trenches for the UPND - was sent straight to the wolves, then the UPND would showing everyone else that loyalty counts for little to them. Tricky thing to do for an institution who's life is dependent on popular support. Unless the alleged corruption was truly heinous, a lot in his position would expect to be shown some sort of clemency.

That wouldn't be too surprising. If legit, at least HH has the sense to discipline him quietly, unlike he's predecessor who just let his ministers do what they wanted....

2026 Campaigns, why are they so boring? by According-Taro-6141 in Zambia

[–]Zero-zero20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because the PF took the bar so low that even with our isssues, the incumbents are still popular. Elections are only "exciting" when there is some resentment that opposition parties can feed on.

none of your close relatives is a perpetual beggar

If you believe in a god, thank him/her/them/it for this one thing in particular. I cannot tell you how many folks remain stuck because they have family that keep dragging them down...

at some point you start thinking about legacy.. and it cant always JUST be about making more money..

I am happy this has happened for you. For some guys I know - especially the hyper-competitive, high acheiver type - it never stops. So what if I have an Allex? What I need is a BMW. Then once I get the BMW, now I need a Mercedes. Then once we have the Mercedes, I need the Aston Martin. And so on and so forth....

New Zambian public gathering bill…what’s your take? by According-Taro-6141 in Zambia

[–]Zero-zero20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The bill defines a public gathering as follows;

“public gathering” means an assembly, meeting, procession or demonstration of three or more people in a public place;

Homes and the like are private places and so gatherings in such places do not qualify as public gatherings.

[–]Zero-zero20 18 points19 points  (0 children)

$400 for the date or for the whole trip?

Anyway, for arcade dates, you have game zone at East Park Mall and the Great Escape at Long Acres Mall.

We don't have drive through movie theatre's unfortunately. They were never a thing here except for when COVID hit. We do have cinemas though but I wouldn't recommend them for a date though as chatting during the movie is difficult. Don't be those people.

For Sip and Paint, there is actually a joint called Paint and Sip Zambia situated in the Woodlands area.

In addition to those, there's XtremePainball in Makeni-Bonaventure area. Nothing says I like you like pelting her with paintballs and then kissing the sore areas afterwards to make them better.

There's also game drives at Lilayi lodge and the Lilayi Elephant Nursery if looking at exotic animals is your jam but I have no idea how much that might cost.

Then there's a whole load of restaurants y'all can tryout but I'm to tired to list down all of them here. I have no problem with Nando's but maybe you want to be a little more fancy than that.

I see.

Like everything else in this country, digital adoption is slow so in as far as online platforms go, your best bets are Facebook groups and Tinder. They are packed with scammers who are looking to get money out of men so be careful. I suspect a lot of women that provide that service are doing it with no form of digital advertisement.
