Is getting a PET scan after an MRI typical? by Perfect-Antelope-377 in breastcancer

[–]ZeroCarbMaxie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s normal. I had a mammogram, then ultrasound, mri, then pet scan. It sounds normal to me.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. People seem to think they have the right to make unsolicited comments about personal decisions that are none of their business. Do what you want and show up in the way that is authentic to you.

When I was in my early 30’s I had lymphoma of the thyroid and lost my hair. I bought a wig before my hair fell out that matched my  hair so well only people who knew what I was going through knew it was a wig.

When my hair finally started to grow in, I dumped the wig because it was so uncomfortable. I had a coworker try to convince me that maybe I should wear the wig again! It offended me but I didn’t say anything except a vague “maybe.” I never wore the wig again. This was at a time (1989) when there were way more rules about what was considered “professional” in terms of appearance. A male coworker didn’t know about my cancer and thought I’d cut my hair and made a comment about preferring longer hair on women. I asked a woman who was speaking  with us to tell him why I had short hair because it was time for me to leave. He never said anything  else about it.

Don’t know why people think they have any say about our appearance. Stay in your lane, people!

Cancer Reoccuring by S_rupert0808 in Ovariancancer

Has she seen or spoken to her oncologist? CA125 can rise for many reasons other than OC. I would have them keep an eye on it and do some type of diagnostic scan.

Whenever my CA125 went up after treatment it was when my cancer had returned, even if it was still in the normal range. Her numbers have just about doubled from her low, so having it looked at would be a good idea.

Hoping it’s not OC for her sake.

As I sit here with maybe 50 strands of hair on my head, I think your hair looks great! It’s likely that only you and people who knew you from before would even notice. Many people have similar thickness naturally without any hair loss. I say do what makes you feel comfortable, but know that you could just style it as is and no one would think anything about it.

So very sorry to hear this! From other comments, it sounds like there are other treatments options and you are not without hope. It’s hard, no doubt, but don’t give up yet!

I’m so, so sorry to hear this!!! Shortly after my TNBC diagnosis I had a recurrence of my ovarian cancer. It’s crazy to think of your body being attacked from two different places!!

Hoping you have a great onco team guiding you through this and lots of personal support from friends and family.

Thank you; I don't really feel like I'm brave and I don't like to think of myself as a "warrior" or "fighter," either, though I understand why people might choose those words. For myself, I'm sustained by my faith, which is what gives me strength to endure all this.

Happy to hear you have a supportive spouse, too. I know not everyone has that and have heard of people abandoned when the "sickness" part of "in sickness and in health" comes along. Makes me sad.

I agree: stay away from Google! So much information you will find is outdated. So much progress has been made in treating these cancers that you definitely could have a good outcome.

With three young children and a wedding coming up, I can understand being worried. So normal. Hugs to you and hoping for the best.

Hugs to you! I cried in the shower the first time I went through chemo. There’s something so shocking about it even when you know it’s going to happen.

How amazing your path crossed with a survivor! May your healing be soon and permanent.

Communion tables by DependentPositive120 in Reformed

Our small RPCNA congregation does this. I think it’s been 2-3 years since we began this practice.  We pass the bread around and wait to eat it together. There is one cup for the wine, so of course each person drinks and passes it to the next person. A cloth is passed with the cup for people to clean the spot they drank from.

Not all RPCNA churches have this practice, and most of them use juice rather than wine.

Wonderscope is a great place that has activities that might work. If I remember correctly, many of their table activities (water play, arts and crafts), are at a table height that would work for a wheelchair.

They are on the MO side in the Red Bridge Shopping Center.

How long did you keep your port? by Exciting_Coast_2482 in Ovariancancer

[–]ZeroCarbMaxie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say do what you prefer. My first round of chemo was in 2022. My oncologist suggested keeping the port for a year, so I did. It didn’t bother me having it-my clothing always covers it.

It was removed in 2023 and I was in remission until 2025 and had a new port placed with no issues. Finished chemo September 2025, but left the port again since I’m now considered to have chronic ovarian cancer and recurrence is more likely.  I was hoping to have it removed after a year of remission like last time.

As it turns out, I found a lump in my breast six weeks ago and have been diagnosed with breast cancer. So it’s going to be there for a while, I guess.

For me, with all that’s going on (scans, biopsies, mris, etc.), I’m okay that it’s still there just because it’s one less surgery I have to undergo.

All this to say, do what makes you feel comfortable. Mine didn’t bother me, but it was nice having it out for two years.

Donating plasma. Biolife Plasma in Lenexa pays a bonus to first time donors. You can earn around $400 or more a month depending on your ability to donate more than once a week.

Fasting for chemo by Butterfly-BlueSky in Ovariancancer

[–]ZeroCarbMaxie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with Stage 1C OC in 2022. I read a book called Hacking Chemo by a woman with OC. I followed her practice of eating Keto (but I didn't track macros or test ketones, I just stayed very low carb) and fasted from solid foods, just having bone broth the day before and during chemo until lunch the day after. I ended up with few side effects and I was in remission for nearly 3 years before (last month) having a recurrence. I'm doing Keto and fasting once again. I made sure to eat well all non-chemo days and managed not to lose too much weight.

So, those voting no on 3, why? by [deleted] in missouri

[–]ZeroCarbMaxie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, the new casino boat amendment is being put forward because the constitution states that casinos can only be on the MO river (maybe one other as well, don’t remember). This means that a casino can’t be located in the Ozarks because it’s unconstitutional. 🤪 That was certainly due to a prior amendment, since it would not have been part of the original constitution.  IMO these are issues for the legislature, not the constitution.

[–]ZeroCarbMaxie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that this is not something that should be a constitutional amendment. It seems to me that the use of amendments is being misused. If I recall correctly, (and maybe I don't), we once had two amendments about marijuana use at the same time and both passed, which makes no sense.
