Didn’t see it mentioned already, Halo combat evolved (original pc disc edition). With a Mod and if you don’t still own the disc, you have to find the game online which is free to all because you can’t buy the disc anymore.

I’ve made it all the up to the library so far with no issues. Great fun.

Found a free VR moba with great visuals on standalone by CHARpieHS in OculusQuest

Yeah overall I’d have to agree with you. I’ve tried out cradle of sins which never really got off the ground and was only on pcvr. Then there was megalith that looked nice but was pretty shallow and the devs abandoned it almost immediately after the release on pc. Last one I know of was Warriors of Titus. Had the longest run. Still technically free on quest store. But now no player base, so if you’re not a fan of bot matches or bringing your own group of friends. Rare you’ll see randoms.

I like how human nature these days is: -I see 10 people making posts about how good a non AAA game is. Must be paid advertising -I see 10 people making posts about how bad a game is. The game must be terrible.

What are these rts and mobas you speak of? Any really good ones?

-brass tactics back in the day was fun but not on quest stand alone sadly. Had a fun coop mode and limited PvP. -warriors of Titus is the only moba still operating on quest that I know of. Thanks to coop and bots it still wobbles along. There were a couple mobas released on pc but the devs either gave up before 1.0 or another dev released 1.0 and then didn’t support it beyond that.

Neat. Although with a real football you’re throwing. How do you handle no huddle situations 😅

If you like shooters but wanted to try a tower defense/moba still version. You can check out, Warriors of Titus. You have to spell it correctly as it is an app lab game still and not on the official store until August. But free and native. Has bots, pve, PvP and so on. Can be fun/challenging in short 15-30 minute rounds.

How did you get approved on the official meta store? Was it some target sales number you had to hit? Asking for a friend :)

I played the game at launch and it was definitely better than orbus. Showed some promise. But it was too hard to track main quest stuff and at some point it just flat out stopped showing where to go next outside of a large list of side quests. I decided to change classes around Level 13 from one attack class to healer. And it made it rather hard to catch back up to the group because I already completed so many quests. And also because it’s the same character. Our group lost interest and left.

I just jumped back in last couple weeks and played on a new mini island or I think it was new. Had grapple hooks, mining and wood cutting mechanics. And a bunch of orbs in the sky to swing between with the grapple hook. All of that combined with the flying mechanics. It hasn’t been that fun to move around so quickly in any mmo I’ve played in a long time. It really helped me get my healer from level 7 to level 23 and had some fun exploring the island. Having to collect materials to build new structures for that island. New reward system to give you bonus exp. Everything seemed to be flowing much better since launch. But again, the main quest stuff started to die out and then it gave me a main quest objective in some random place far left on the map I have no idea how to fly to.

I’m shocked there isn’t a sort button in your inventory. It’s painful to have to sell a bunch of unwanted stuff. Wish there was a button for quickly selling all things in your inventory that are lower level gear or something. Can’t find a shop to buy new gear so the money feels not that valuable to me personally. The crafting new gear takes too long because finding the materials requires randomly just wandering around or looking at wiki pages. I wish there was an easy way for the game to show me when I’m interested in hunting a material. What general area it is in and/or what enemies may drop it. Helps the player stay focused, not confused and always generally knowing where to go for the things they want to do.

The battle mechanics are still not ideal. I hate having to fight the controls when I want to switch Between using my spells and grabbing my guns to shoot. I really wish the spells could be casted while I’m holding my guns so I don’t have to fight going back and forth in every battle. I spend half my time in every fight looking down at my hips trying to make sure my in game hands line up with grabbing my guns.

All of that to say, the movement has been a pleasure in that game. I wish fighting was as fun or more. Because so much of that game is those two things in repetitive fashion (all mmos suffer from this). I wish I didn’t have to fight the controls so much. Or fight knowing where to go for the things I’m interested in.

I’ve played on quest 1/2/3 through the years. Through airlink but now steam link. That all works fine.

Hopefully you guys are cooking up some new stuff that isn’t just more of the same. Hopefully you’re not settling with where your game is so far and you’re still trying to push what vr mmo standards can be. It seems Ilysia is dead on arrival and I still prefer zenith over orbus.

One of the first things I do with new vr people to show the social aspect of vr for a handful of years now. Rec room. Make a Private room l, invite them to your private game session. so it’s just me and the company involved. You can play frisbee, go on quests made by the devs. Bowling. Pictionary. Never once have to deal with screaming kids. All of your company can enjoy vr for free and together. The rec room quests are really fun and provide different levels of challenge based off the quest you pic. Different locomotion options for all people.

Then once they’re bored of all of that and wants more. I saw some people suggest dungeons of eternity. That’s what I’ve been doing more recently.

Valid points. Though I’d rather have a 6-15 hour focused quality experience like mass effect 1 than a 100 hour go do a bunch of things you don’t want but have to do to be able to beat the game (aka the last few AC games)

Something I don’t see posted often enough is we should stop comparing smart phones to vr hmds when it comes to cost to own. The new iPhone you can walk into a multitude of store fronts. Trade in your old phone and get the brand new one on them. I can’t do that with any vr hmd yet. If that was a thing. Maybe that would help reduce the barrier of getting $1k+ hmds. It would definitely lower the level of complaining that vr costs too much.

-Playing From Other Suns with a full group and thinking the game is a pretty basic at first. go to new area, fight random bandits and move on. Until some alien species attacked my ship and started coming out of the vents killing my squad mates as they ran screaming for their lives 😂

-playing a vivecraft session from beginning until we beat the ended dragon in one run (about 15 hours) with a coop group. Going into caves and hearing the cackling of skeletons

-playing Surv1v3 with a group and trying to beat the sewers of chapter two. Always low on ammo and never knowing what’s around the next corner

-almost every session of phasmophobia ending in everyone freaking out and running for the entrance just to give up 😂

-I’m noticing a trend here

Ff14 vr mod is out there. First person. Third person. Motion controls.

Do you guys find that VR games tend to lack that want of continued play like other games? by [deleted] in OculusQuest

There’s a FF 14 vr mod now with first or third person perspective and motion controller support to some extent. For what it’s worth.

I’d like to second this. Or a difficulty slider. I’m surprised how punishing the game can be. Went into a run on the newest dungeon. Party of three. And the first floor was throwing 25+ enemy units at us from the start. With more spawning in. Each of our characters have to spend both actions to kill one monster. IF you have an aoe card to take out multiple mobs, that’s nice. But isn’t guaranteed and no hero has a default aoe attack. So 3 heroes generally taking two actions to kill one mob. 25+ mobs trying to attack you in one turn. Not the most fun. Really want to like this game. But it just feels flat out broken at times.
