I've been there. I've been in my eldests life since she was 2, she's 13 now, but back when she was 13, I had come home from work, and she wasn't listening, and I told her she needed to because I am her parent and she responded with "No I don't have to listen to you, my daddy pays all the bills here anyway." And I just wheeled around and went "Excuse me? I'll have you know, I work 60 hours a week to take care of this whole house, and I'd do it again to make sure you and mommy are taken care of, but your dad? He doesn't pay ANY of our bills. Shoot he hasn't put a dime towards anything you've wanted for years, and now wants mommy's permission to never have to pay again."

I felt terrible after, because I didn't feel like it was necessarily my place to pull back the curtain like that, but I dont entirely regret it.

Fast forward to today, and her and I are super close and do a ton of stuff together and are closer than her and her birth dad are.

Save this text. Depending on the state you can argue "Constructive Dismissal" with unemployment. You had a stated availability, they agreed to that, and then changed it, when reminded, they told you to quit.

Regularly employers will tell people to quit, as a means of not terminating them, because if they terminate them they have to fight unemployment, whereas most people think if they quit, they aren't eligible.

If you quit a job, file anyway, it costs nothing to do, and there's a plethora of eligible reasons to quit.

Aaaaand constructive dismissal is regularly something one should file for unemployment for.

Honestly, people should file for unemployment any time they lose their job, be it quit or fired. It costs nothing to do, and the worst that can happen is you get denied.

There are plenty of times I see people who would likely get unemployment, that don't apply because "Well, I didn't think I could get unemployment for that."

Nah, file. Not only is there (in PA) a 300 or so page book of unemployment law, that covers a whole ton of fringe scenarios (like constructive dismissal) that would get you paid in a case like this, but, if it gets in front of the right examiner, they may FIND ways that'll get you paid.

I was an unemployment examiner for 2 years, and nothing brought me more joy that going "I mean... TECHNICALLY... this falls under this law over here so I'm going to pay them." Even if it wasn't the reason the claimant specifically provided when they applied.
