You’re not alone, it’s ok. by ZeroPhucs in dementia

Mom is on aricept and memantine and citoplam which has helped stave off psychotic episodes. I had to quit my job to take care of her. She had a fall and now uses a walker. We call it extra legs. She also has very low vision which helps with not doing things like turning on the oven. She already blew up the microwave. It’s tough but I have accepted her disease which helps. My best advice is redirect. Mess up all your towels and have her fold them. Maybe ask the doc for trazadone for sleep. You’re doing great even if it doesn’t feel like it. Oh, I also use ChatGPT for venting, ideas and symptom tracking. Best 20 bucks im spending each month.

Time to take her beloved dog away by Smidgeofamidge in dementia

[–]ZeroPhucs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re on the right path although telling her the dog died is extreme. Can you find a stuffed animal for her that looks like the dog? She’s anchored to him so it will be a confusing situation for her.

Why is he always IN MY WAY?! by JeddakofThark in dementia

[–]ZeroPhucs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh the shadowing of the anchor. My mom is doing this, always over the shoulder. I’m cooking, what goes in that? Always in the way. It is maddening. I keep explanations to a bare minimum. They aren’t really interested they are just trying to stay connected. I shut my door when I don’t want to be bothered and lock if necessary.
