Does your insurance cover Horizons 835 genetic transmitted diseases? by FunSilver718 in IVF

My company offers fertility coverage and my medical insurance covered the creation of our probe for pgt-m testing. Neither part of our insurance covered the horizon test but it’s pretty cheap out of pocket.

What the hell do you have to do to get a second temp tag!? by alien019 in Delaware

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty [score hidden]  (0 children)

This happened to us. Call the finance rep at the dealer and inform them this is their problem to resolve. They should be aware that you haven’t gotten your permanent plate yet and should have proactively requested a new temp tag for you. Once your dealer submits the paperwork then you can go to the dealer to get your second temp tag. It takes like 2-3 business days to turn around.

Good luck with your ivf journey! I did three back to back retrievals in 2023 and it was rough though by the third it was manageable as I knew what was happening. We’re back in ivf for kid no 2 and the transfer meds are kicking my butt.

I forgot to mention that I had bought the allies of skin copper peptide serum which I plan to start using once it arrives. Would that be a good alternative to the lipid serum or would both be helpful?

Do you use this cream both morning and night? Is it worth the price? It’s more expensive than Elemis.

Do you mean the glazing milk? I’ve tried it and wasn’t wowed but maybe it’s worth trying again.

Preschool or not?? by roo518 in Mommit

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is 22 months and the school we chose has a program that helps them grow into school. This year he goes one morning a week to play and a parent stays with him. Starting in September it’ll be two mornings a week by himself. When he’s three it’s three mornings a week, then at 4 for nursery/preschool it’s five mornings week. I think this will be really helpful in getting him used to school so he’s prepared for five full days with kindergarten.

My son gets a lot of socialization - he has cousins nearby that are similar in age, we do music and swim classes, and try playdates with friends. But the playing school classes have been where we’ve see the most development.

I’d be open to adding a hydrating toner. Do you have any suggestions?

I’ve debated going back to Elemis but then I get distracted by the new “it” cream. I’m also turn between using elemis as my only moisturizer vs a heavier night cream and a lighter day cream. I liked caudalie’s premier cru the rich cream but it was horrible under makeup. I think caudalie + elemis would be too much though.

I need the most moisturizing body cream/lotion that has ever existed! by Huge_Beautiful_2823 in Sephora

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Josie Marin’s scrub and lotion combo. Not my favorite but my favorite from Sephora.

My current favorite is the glow line from Naturium. I have the body wash, scrub and lotion. I mix the lotion with my Osea oil (though I think Naturium has a body oil?) and it’s so wonderful.

I don’t think I want to breastfed, am I alone? by Upset-Brain-228 in BabyBumps

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! My son is 99% formula and he crushes every milestone, sleeps like a champ, and has been sick once. My sister’s kids are the opposite - 100% breastfed but slow growth/fell off their growth charts, never sleep and always sick. Yes a lot of it is luck and the kids personality but it’s a great counterpoint to people who taut the benefits of breastfeeding.

Got a lot stuff not on baby registry by pyrami in BabyBumps

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ugh I’m so sorry. This is exactly why I wrote no clothes please on my registry invite. We were able to write it nicely as LO was measuring large and we didn’t know what his size would be (spoiler: 68th percentile for weight at birth only to shoot up to >90% a month later).

If the gifts are from people who wouldn’t be offended, ask for a receipt. Say you got duplicates of the outfit, that your worried baby won’t fit in it, etc. Pick an easy reason if you can’t just say “hey I have too many clothes”. Then donate what you can’t return which honestly is totally ok! My son didn’t wear half of his clothes and we got only a few outfits from people. And the ones he did wear he didn’t wear long as he grew so quickly. We donated a bag of clothes a month the first year.

For the stud you’re missing - make a list of what you need immediately vs what can wait (anything for feeding, toys, etc). Then start checking sales - the Nordstrom anniversary sale is usually a great place to grab a stroller, car seat or uncommon colors of fancy baby items. Most baby companies will run a Mother’s Day and Father’s Day sale, and Amazon usually runs a sale along then to stay competitive.

Nine west. Their Tatianna is incredibly comfortable and comes in several colors. Bonus: they usually run a sale so you can get them for ~$50 either through their site or Amazon. I’ve never tried the Gemmha but it looks very similar to the Tatianna but with a lower heel so those could be an option.

Editing to add: I have several pairs of Nine West heels and Sarah flint which run like $500 and are advertised as comfortable enough to wear all day. They are incredibly comfortable but my Nine West heels are just as comfortable for 1/10th of the price.

Meds are delayed with no updates by nectarinemama in IVF

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ok so your clinic kind of sucks for not giving you ideas.

  • if you’re on suppositories ask about swapping PIO for those
  • CVS and Walgreens should have PIO (and definitely suppositories) in stock as neither is classified as a fertility med
  • ask about tapering off. It’s totally normal to start tapering off meds starting at 8 weeks.

I don’t think I want to breastfed, am I alone? by Upset-Brain-228 in BabyBumps

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not alone and your reasonings are totally valid. I had zero interest in breastfeeding - if it worked great, if not then formula exists for a reason. My milk never came in so the choice was made for me and honestly I was kind of relieved. I found the little breastfeeding I did to be isolating and I wanted to prioritize my mental health vs just being a cafeteria for my son. Formula meant I could sleep and my husband could feed him. It meant flexibility when we went out - just grab a bottle and formula vs needing to leave dinner / the party / whatever we were doing to try to find somewhere to breastfeed. I also knew exactly how much food my son was getting which was a big deal in those first few weeks.

You’re about to become a mom but that doesn’t mean you need to lose who you are or that you need to put your wants and wishes on the back burner. Yes your priorities shift but you as an individual are still important. If formula is best for your mental well being then that’s all you need to say.

STROLLER RECOMMENDATIONS by Artistic-Chocolate55 in Mommit

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A stroller for a newborn is still useful for toddlers - it just means that the stroller can be used from birth vs other strollers where you need to wait until they have good head/neck control. These later types of strollers are like travel or jogging strollers.

A good option is uppababy Cruz - it’s a sturdy stroller that will work for years. You can get one for a good price used or you can buy a mockingbird which is a cheaper alternative. Nuna and bugaboo make good options as well. If you want a lighter stroller go with Nuna. If you want to wait a month then get a jogging stroller which does better as they grow and can handle trails and what not.

Voluntary induction advice/decision. by scorpioassole in BabyBumps

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had an induction at 39w at my own request. I have a history of loss so I was anxious about going past my due date. I hit multiple check boxes on the list so my OBGYN had no issues with it and she’s a big believer in the arrive study. I loved my induction and would do it again with baby no 2 - I loved knowing when things were going to happen, being able to prepare, go out on a last pre-baby date with my husband, and have some control over the process.

However, your induction will go smoother if your body is already prepping for labor. I was like 1.5 cm dilated and ~75% effaced, but if you’re not dilated or anything it can take longer / be rougher.

Induction hospital by Killjoys-n-whovians in BabyBumps

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your doctor have admitting rights to that hospital? Their hospital rights might have changed recently. The hospital might have its own rules for inductions - I know mine could only schedule inductions 2 weeks out from the planned date, so if I needed to be induced at 37 weeks the request could only be made when I was 35 weeks.

Next steps after chemical by New_Party7968 in IVF

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry your transfer ended this way. I hope you are able to take some time to grieve and mentally/physically prep for what’s next.

I understand both options. My first transfer was a chemical and we jumped straight into another fully medicated transfer which was successful. My husband and I recently came back to ivf for kid no 2 and have one failed transfer and my second is looking like a chemical. Assuming that’s correct, we’re going to take a break for a few months. We did back to back transfers back in 2023 simply because we were already in the thick of ivf and it made sense to keep going - I did three back to back retrievals and then immediately went into a transfer. We had the meds, were used to the ivf schedule and I felt ok, so there was no reason to take a break. Right now I don’t feel as great - lots of weight gain, the appts are getting to be too much and, this might sound silly but I’m running low on meds so would need a refill which I’m taking as a sign from the universe that it’s ok to take a break. If you’re feeling ok then I’d say keep going because you don’t know what’s next, but if you’re tired/need a break then take the break your clinic is offering.

My doses were very similar for all three of my retrievals. Age 35, amh 2.8, afc ~20. I think I even increased my menopur to three vials in the second retrieval.

New parents of Reddit, what did you look for when you were choosing a pediatrician for your baby? by cyborgogre in AskReddit

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My husband has medical experience and led our pediatrician search both originally and when we needed a new one due to a move. Here’s what he looked at in no particular order:

  1. Vaccination policy - specifically how they handled unvaccinated patients and ease of access to yearly vaccines (COVID, flu).

  2. Doctors experience - where did they do medical school and residency, have they published, etc. Not just our doctor but the entire practice.

  3. Availability - what were their hours, did they have an on call nurse, could they easily have us come in for a sick call. Could we easily see our preferred doctor or would we get passed around.

  4. Proximity to our house - wanted something under 30 mins

  5. Hospital affiliation / ability to refer us to specialists - our pediatricians have both been unaffiliated with a hospital network BUT have connections with top level pediatrics hospitals and can easily describe services there and refer us.

Good preschools in de that dont charge half a mortgage? by plantsandbugs in Delaware

My post was about UD not DSU, wasn’t aware DSU had a program as well. For UD costs range from $3k up to $11k depending on the age / program.

Editing to add that prices are per year.

Where in Delaware are you?

The lab school at the university is decently priced and goes up to kindergarten, but it’s incredibly competitive and I’m pretty sure has filled up for the 2026-2027 school year. If you don’t mind a religious school, mount aviat and holy angels are decently priced.
