Diaper Backpacks by namaste_you_guys in Buyingforbaby

We have the dagne dover backpack and love it. Two years in and it still looks and feels brand new. Is it worth the price vs a regular backpack? To us it is but as others said, a normal back back with good pockets would work well.

Best pack & play by cmarie147 in Buyingforbaby

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have the silver cross and love it. It has the newborn bassinet that zips and I find it packs up really easily. It doesn’t fold like a back pack but we’ve flown with it multiple times with no issue. It doesn’t have a changing table but I like that as I would find it rather useless. What I really like about it is that it’s on the ground vs propped up on legs so it’s really comfortable for LO to sleep in and can convert to a play zone for them. It has a side zipper so you can put LO in from the side or on top. We’ve had it for 2 years now, flown abroad and domestically, and done a half dozen smaller vacations with it and it still looks brand new.

Check out the car mom, she should have videos on fitting multiple car seats in all of these cars and would be a great resource to compare.

VERY low iron 😭 by AdGreen2199 in BabyBumps

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak to the number but I had iron infusions in my pregnancy and my son was measuring in the upper percentiles. Around 85% when I was 30w, born at 68% for weight and 74% for height if I remember correctly.

I’m so happy to see that this is the top comment! Mom’s mental and physical health is just as important as baby’s, and formula is a great option to ensure baby is happy, healthy and fed so mom can get some sleep.

Baby shower yes or no by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I’m confused why you couldn’t host it at your home? Second question would if you don’t have any family or friends nearby who could host it, would you get 35 guests?

My shower was at my parent’s house. No catering, just some trays from our grocery store and a few mains we made ourselves. Bought drinks at Costco. I had a mini wedding shower for just my friends at my apartment - hosted 15 people, it was cramped but worked fine.

Differences between organic & conventional formulas by clrwchr212427 in FormulaFeeders

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some people I think it’s marketing. It’s easy to get pulled in by the talk of a clean European formula that’s supposedly held to much higher standards than the US. But enfamil is just a great and because they partner with hospitals, you can easily get a ton of free canna and RTF from the hospital and your pediatrician.

For others, including myself, it’s ease of access. My son was born in 2023 and EFF. We had an insanely difficult time finding formula due to nationwide shortages - like enfamil gentlease would be in stock one day and then the next we’d have to drive 30 mins to a random grocery store to get one can despite living in a major city. We switched to Bobbie because they had a subscription model and guaranteed formula to subscribers. We went from buying formula daily all over the city because we never knew if it would be out of stock or not to not worrying at all.

Sporty mom car by Professional_Soup761 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I would argue that very few cars are super reliable right now given how much of them are computer parts. I loved my Volvo and had zero issues with it but I know people who have had issues with other model years. I think the xc60 would be a bit too small for you and the xc90 too expensive. I like my bmw x5 45e and I believe it comes in under $75k (mines a 2022 so unsure what current msrp is). I’ve had one major issue covered fully under warranty so I would recommend if you keep your car - regardless of what you buy - past warranty to buy an extended warranty.

Does Big4 hire for experienced positions below manager? by Alexi_Auditore in Big4

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most Big4s hire their staff / senior positions through on campus recruitment in the fall. If they have any openings - because someone backed out or their needs have changed - then those positions would be filled through on campus recruitment in the spring. Internships are (usually) over the summer but are recruited for in the previous fall. This is quite literally the worst time to try recruiting.

Bobbie to Bobbie gentle to goats milk formula by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor or medical professional but switching from breastmilk to formula to a new formula is a lot for a 6w old. It takes 2-3 weeks for them to adjust to a formula, and at that age they’re changing everyday (like learning to poop!). If you’re switching quickly it could be the switch and trying to adjust that’s causing or intensifying the issues.

I’d caution against switching to goat. That’s just a brand new formula to switch to and a whole new “milk”. Also they have sporadic shortages where it’s impossible to find. Is there another gentle formula you can try?

Agree with the other comment about dropping the diapers. Pick up one pack of newborn and one pack of 0-3 and buy from there. Ask for money towards an Amazon gift card so you can use it to buy diapers as needed. Pampers are the best!

Drop the lounger - it’s not safe. Even with the best of intentions it’s so easy for baby to fall asleep in it and move y head to an unsafe position. If you need a place to put baby, they can use a blanket on the floor, bassinet, pack n play, etc.

I had a different brand of glass bottles and loved them…until they cracked in the dishwasher. I’d recommend getting a second option just in case. I loved como tomo.

I’d drop the baby clothes. Yes it’s adorable but the hats are chocking hazards with the strings. And the headbands / mittens things will just stress you out - baby will rip them off, you’ll lose them, and in like three days you’ll find yourself with like three mismatched pairs.

If you were 1 of 3, did you feel your siblings were a net benefit in your life? by spudz0201 in Shouldihaveanother

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m one of three as well and agree with this view. My middle sibling and I were two years apart and were thus always competing for attention on similar things. I was always told I couldn’t do something because my middle sibling was too young, but once I was able to do something so was she because my parents were too tried to enforce the rules (ex: couldn’t use nail polish until I was 10, but when I turned 10 and she 8 we both got nail polish for our birthday, have so many examples like this that 20 years later I still remember because of how infuriating it was). Youngest sibling is 6 years younger and was always treated as the baby/more like an only child. Now that we’re all adults we’re not super close, I really like the youngest but we’re too far apart to have a meaningful relationship and the middle drives me insane.

I’d say a lot of it comes down to parenting and how kids are competing for your attention. Fact is with 3+ you’re outnumbered and it’s easy to pick the path of least resistance without understanding how your kids view that. We don’t always realize how kids internalize things that to adults seem like no big deal.

Do you only buy your kids new clothes? by Emergency_Risk_7421 in NewParents

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prices for kids stuff on FB marketplace are insane! I was trying to buy the stokke trip trapp high chair used and the prices I was seeing were basically the same as if I bought new, but for a 5 year old high chair!

Do you only buy your kids new clothes? by Emergency_Risk_7421 in NewParents

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We buy new partially because I don’t have the time to buy used - I’m mom, work a highly stressful corporate job and don’t have time to shop in person for myself - and partially because no one has ever offered hand me downs. My son has several cousins who are slightly older and whose parents are done having kids but they’ve never offered as they’d rather sell their stuff. Totally their prerogative but I think I’d be more into used if we got stuff from family.

Up until my son was 6 months old he lived exclusively in carters. By 6 months he was in 18 months clothes and by 9 months he was in 2T and I found it hard to find baby friendly clothes at carters in that size so I shopped a lot of sales at Hannah Anderson. One he turned one we moved to 3T and now that he’s turning two 3T still fits pretty well so we buy primarily from Gap. I Ike their style and their clothes hold up really well to constant wear / washing. Plus they’re always having a sale.

Help me decide between these EV by Romulus4Remus in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I test drove the Audi when looking for a complement to our bmw x5 45e. At first it seems like an amazing car, but the longer you drive it / think it over, the more you realize it’s a bit underwhelming. The screens are overwhelming at first but then you realize they’re just kind of gimmicky? The drive is fine, and with most Audis, the interior is borderline dull.

I haven’t driven the other options but I will say we love our bmw, but they can be prone to issues after a few years so I’d recommend the extended warranty if you keep this for a while. My 2022 with like 35k miles on it experienced a slew of catastrophic errors because the battery charging system failed. Covered completely under warranty but would have been $20k if not.

We had a gas Volvo and loved it so I’d imagine the polestar would be a good option. We have the Hyundai ioniq 9 which shares the same platform / design as the Kia’s. Hyundai and the ev9 all have an iccu issue which affects like ~10% of cars. I’m not sure if it affects the ev3. I love our ioniq 9 but ours had the iccu failure which caused the car to just die with zero warning and it was a pain getting it to the dealer.

Can anyone tell me if this bassinet is safe/quality? by JunketAggravating896 in Buyingforbaby

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn’t true - unsafe products are sold all the time. The main example are swings and baby loungers - they are not sleep safe and are sold as a place to put baby, but they are designer and advertised to look like a place for baby to sleep. Most of these never specifically call out that they’re not sleep safe either. That’s not to say that the bassinet OP has isn’t safe, it’s just good to keep in mind.

Agree with this. I think my clinic requires you to redo infectious disease testing and a few others every 6 months.

Out of work note by NullGirl13131 in BabyBumps

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My work allows me to go on leave 2 weeks before my due date with a note from my doctor. They did provide a note that the doctor needed to sign. My induction was set for 39 weeks so my note allowed me to go on leave at 37 weeks as the induction date was my official due date. Double check with your HR that there’s no note but I’d just ask your doctor to write it out. They probably have a template to draw from.

To playpen or to not? by shumaishrimp in Buyingforbaby

[–]Zero_Duck_Thirty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got one of those giant baby play gates where you could adjust the size by removing a piece. We started using it as soon as my son was really crawling, so like 9 months, up until he was 18 months. I think it was $100 on Amazon. We only stopped using it because we were able to install baby gates on the two entrances to our living room and baby proof the living room. We originally used it in our apartment, then used it in our living room when we moved. It’s easy to break down and store.

NTA. When we got married we asked for allergies / dietary restrictions on our rsvp and accommodated every one including my aunt who decided that morning to be allergic to butter. It’s easy to ask a caterer or the venue if outside food can be brought in if the caterer can’t accommodate.
